It's logging me out... again!

Anytime I navigate away from MNet (I know, I do try not to do it, but sometimes I need to look at other sites 'kay? Wink ) I'm logged out and have to log back in again. Even if I have two tabs running, it happens when I switch from one to the other.

I've tried it on a variety of devices and browsers;

  • iPhone running latest software update (7.1?) and using Safari & Chrome.
  • Kindle Fire using Chrome and Silk
  • Laptop running Windows 7 and using Chrome & Firefox. I couldn't bring myself to try IE.

It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

Tech did sort it last time, but whatever he/she/they have upgraded has reset it for me (at least!).

DawnMumsnet · 30/03/2014 14:35

Hi CelticJuggler and nothruroad

Thanks for letting us know.

Obviously we can't imagine why you'd ever need to look at other sites Hmm, but can see that this would be pretty annoying.

We'll flag it to our Tech folk and see what they have to say.

In the meantime, if this is happening to anybody else - please post below and include as many details as you can to help us get to the bottom of it - what device you're using, which
version of the site (mobile, app, desktop), and which browser.

Thanks!

DawnMumsnet · 30/03/2014 15:12

Right, we've had a word with our Tech chappies, and they've suggested two things:

  1. It's very easy on an iPhone to accidentally go to 'private' mode which means next time you go back in, you're not logged in.

Could this be what's happening?

  1. On Chrome, is it possible that you're using 'incognito' mode? This would cause the same problem of logging you out each time.

Could you have a play around and see if we can discount either of these theories?

Many thanks.

KateSMumsnet · 02/04/2014 10:59

Curiouser and curiouser. Is anyone else having this problem?

RowanMumsnet · 03/04/2014 11:30

Hmm thank you and sorry about this

Anyone else?

RowanMumsnet · 04/04/2014 15:35

Thank you

Really sorry about the non-progress here - to be honest we're a bit baffled. Please keep posting if it's happening to you, and let us know which version of the site you're using (desktop site, mobile site or app), which browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari etc) and which OS (Windows, Android, iOS and so on) - we're trying to see if we can spot a pattern!

RowanMumsnet · 04/04/2014 16:21

Oh good!

DawnMumsnet · 05/04/2014 23:06

Hi there,

Just letting you know that we're still listening, and still trying to sort this for you.

Please bear with us!

KateSMumsnet · 07/04/2014 16:17

Thanks folks - could we ask which version of iOS you're all using?

KateSMumsnet · 08/04/2014 16:24

Really sorry folks, we'll have a word with Tech again to see if they can shed any light on the situation.

KateSMumsnet · 08/04/2014 16:46

You haven't cleared your cookies recently have you UncrushedParsley?

RowanMumsnet · 09/04/2014 11:27

Morning

We have flagged this to Tech again - we're having a few internal tech problems at the moment office internet keeps crashing so they're a bit preoccupied, but when they've stopped running around we'll prod them to take a look. Sorry for the long wait.

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 19:56

All site cookies have been reset so you may be asked to login again on each of your computers/devices. If you tick the 'keep me logged in' it should work from that point on.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 20:28

Hello there, Tech reset the cookies and is asking that you all double-triple-quadruple check that you are ticking 'keep me logged in' across all of your devices. If this doesn't work I'm getting the pitchforks...

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 20:43

It is, Ilovemydog, in that Tech is larking about in the back end with cookies and resetting and other Impressive Things, and it is inconveniencing those of us at the Front End (there must be a nicer way to express that...)
We are really sorry for the annoyance of this, genuinely. It might be an idea to clear cookies, if the problem persists. I'm sure you know how to do it but if not, google clear cookies and the name of the browser you are using and you'll get the instructions. Sorry again, though, it's not what any of us want to be prannying around with on a Friday night.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 20:45

OH, or do what nannynick said, as that is a far more specific way of doing it. Sebsmummy1 you could give that a try too, perhaps?

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 20:48

Wink

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 21:19

Apols, Primadonnagirl, the techs are working on it at our end, I was just offering a suggestion re cookies. Tech is aware of the problems, folks, thanks for all the intel, much appreciated.

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 21:26

Please remember if you are using Incognito or Private browsing you will be logged out every time. Other than that it should work as normal. We haven't changed the functionality at all.

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 21:36

unlucky83 and ThePortlyPinUp just using you as examples to get to the bottom of this problem - I can see from our database that the 'keep me logged in' feature is not set on your user record. Could you please tick that when you login again and let me know so I can check again? Thanks

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 21:48

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 21:58

Ok thanks for the feedback. I can see the problem so I'm working on a fix.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 22:04

Tech, bloodied but unbeaten. I'm Burgess Meredith in this photo (encouraging but basically on my way out).

It's logging me out... again!

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 11/04/2014 23:02

Thanks for bearing with us, folks, (even those of you who are getting really cross about it...) We will get there in the end, we always do, but it is a pain if you're the ones getting kicked out all the time.

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 23:40

I've now put a fix in for this. Would be interested to hear if you still have problems after one more login with the 'keep me logged in' checked now. Thanks everyone for your help.

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 23:59

YouTheCat the database is fine. This last time you logged in, did you tick the 'keep me logged in' checkbox?
