"Add a Message

It is with great regret that we have to ask members to refrain from any further discussion of Gina Ford, her methods or her books on the site. To find out why click here. We'd be very grateful if members could report any mentions of Gina Ford using the "contact Mumsnet" facility (the little red exclamation mark to the right of each posting). Many thanks. MNHQ. "

Never seen it before.

gobble - I've just signed and it asked for my donation - but then when I went back to the petition and looked on the signatures my name was there.

tortoise · 07/08/2006 12:23

Ive added my name.

NeverSayNever · 07/08/2006 12:23

Just sign petition and when the donate screen comes up close it.

Gobbledigook · 07/08/2006 12:24

Aha, done. Once you click submit your name is on the petition so you just ignore the donation bit.

Love the name at no 12 - it's beautiful

aitch71 · 07/08/2006 12:25

we just seem to know a lot of stuff, gobbledigook...

Shame Sad world where debate is not allowed.

Have signed the petition. Feel quite strongly about it. You have to stand up to bullies whoever they are.

Gobbledigook · 07/08/2006 12:27

wannabe - do you want to put the petition link on a separate thread? As this one gets longer it will be difficult to find.

wannaBe1974 · 07/08/2006 12:29

yes I've put it in chat but it seems to be slipping down there also.

Had a thought re: sending books to publisher. Although on the surface it seems like a good way to protest, would it not give she who must not be named a way to say "yes - mumsnet cost me X amount of revenue" - i.e. it makes the financial damage more tangible. I'd be wary of causing more trouble for mumsnet, tbh.

Perigrine · 07/08/2006 12:32

Seems we are being discussed all over parenting sites - bounty don't hold back

wannaBe1974 · 07/08/2006 12:33

possibly, but technically we won't have cost it (if I don't give it a gender it can't assume I'm talking about it) anything, because even if people send back their books, they've already paid for them so no revenue is lost so that's not a valid legal argument

ooooh, shall we all join?

flutterbee · 07/08/2006 12:36

Love the idea on the other thread about a demonstration outside the publishers with everyone wearing gags. I would be soooooooooo up for that.

NobodyAtAll · 07/08/2006 12:40

pmsl at the bounty site, esp. the woman who thought that a child called Foot was somehow involved in the saga!

Elf1981 · 07/08/2006 12:41

I think this is very sad
Its a sad day for freedom of speech.

Has anybody written to the papers? Us women like a rant.

Mumsnet team - sorry this is taking you away from your children. Hope it is resolved swiftly and rightly in your favour.

Signed. Now, who's up for a demo outside her publishers?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/08/2006 12:43

does anyone else who is a member on other forums want to post the link to the petition.

Doesn't have to be a parenting website - this issue could just as easily affect people talking about a famous business, fashion, gardening, car, or computer guru.

NobodyAtAll · 07/08/2006 12:45

Good work, sobernow. I see this as potentially perfect for Private Eye, actually. Has just the right proportions of ludicrousness oddness and legitimate moral indignation, imo.

CheesyFeet · 07/08/2006 12:45

?I may not agree with what you say but I defend to the death your right to say it.?
Voltaire 1694 - 1778

Wise words.

SecurMummy · 07/08/2006 12:47

Wannabe, tbh, I am fairly sure that we should be held accountable for the things we say. IMO it is important that people know they cannot say anything they like about anyone, with no thought as to what the consequences may be! I am sure however, that it is not right for the host/organiser to be held accountable for it!

CountessDracula · 07/08/2006 12:50

Funny how no other parenting "gurus" have found it necessary to gag parenting sites though.

Surely part of growing up is learning to accept different points of view and criticism.
