Original post at top?

As I'm fairly new to MN I don't know if this has always been the case but-why isn't the original post the first shown when a thread is accessed? I always want to read the op first, and the then responses-so I always have to 'flip'.

OP posts:
Lems · 30/07/2006 21:39

Me new too, You flip do you? I'm a divvy I've been scrolling!!!

hairymclary · 30/07/2006 21:40

you can flip the thread

JackieNo · 30/07/2006 21:41

Maybe the reason is that once you've seen the op, you might want to keep coming back to the thread as it develops, and you'd only want to read the most recent posts, so easier to have th OP at bottom than to have to scroll down all the way (and it can be a long way) every time you revisit the thread. But I could be wrong...

Lems · 30/07/2006 21:47

So are you ladies old hands at this? I can never seem to stay in a thread for more than 3 posts. I'm all over the place.

rabbitrabbit · 30/07/2006 21:49

Lems-it took a while for me to use the 'flip' option too

Jackieno-makes perfect sense!

OP posts:

I use the 'Active conversations' 'without buying and selling' a lot, and then once you've posted on threads, you can use the 'Threads I'm on' button to see if there have been any posts since you last posted, if you can't find or can't be bothered to find, the thread. Just keep MNing - once you're addicted like the rest of us, it'll become second nature!

rabbitrabbit · 30/07/2006 21:53

Thanks for that.
I'm becoming a bit addicted already...slightly worried

OP posts:
Lems · 30/07/2006 21:55

Yeah I've found those routes but I've not got 1 particular way of usin yet, s'pose I'll find my feet soon. Some threads have been going for weeks do peep's just keep an eye on and add if someone new drops in?

Lems · 30/07/2006 21:57

And some threads just run out of steam by the looks of?

hairymclary · 30/07/2006 22:01

I always check "threads i'm on" and will add to it which then of course bumps it up and it'll appear in active convos. I think that's why some go on for ages.
And yes, some of course just die a quiet death by themselves

Lems · 30/07/2006 22:13

I'm back now just had to do my shopping. Yes I'll try the active threads seems easier then the way I'm doin.

rabbitrabbit- I'm a bit hooked too!

hub2dee · 30/07/2006 22:19

Don't you just turn your screen upside down to get the OP at the top ?

Lems · 30/07/2006 22:20

that sounds easier then hangin from lampshade

hairymclary · 30/07/2006 22:23

ohhh you're clever hub2dee, i'd been standing on my head

Lems · 30/07/2006 22:29

I've just clicked OP= original post!!

hub2dee · 30/07/2006 22:29

Male intelligence, see... our brains are wired differently...

Lems · 30/07/2006 22:30

there not frazzled by pg

Lems · 30/07/2006 22:36

Whats bump mean??

hub2dee · 31/07/2006 06:53

bump - when a person adds a message to a thread thus sending it to the top of Active Convo pile. Some people type bump, some type '.', some write text...

hth

Lems · 31/07/2006 08:31

So if you've not got a comment you put something like that to 'stay in'?

Twiglett · 31/07/2006 08:33

no .. if you have no comment you don't comment .. bump is if you want others to notice the thread in active conversations and its dropped off the list

I read from the bottom up if that helps

hub2dee · 31/07/2006 08:40
Lems · 31/07/2006 08:45

Right!!! Now I'm with you.

Yes 3 under 5's you loose a few brain cells along the way

southeastastra · 31/07/2006 08:46

hub2dee · 31/07/2006 08:47
