Do you want to run a Mumsnet Local site?

Do you need a new packet of biscuits project to perk up Autumn and beyond?

Mumsnet Local is expanding all the time and we are looking for new Local Editors. Our current team of brilliant and dedicated Local Editors make sure their site is full of relevant listings, encouraging local Mumsnetters and businesses to post listings and reviews on the site and filling the gaps, so it's a useful community hub for local parents.

They also oversee Local Ambassadors, who are busy organising meet-ups all over the country, as well as encouraging community links locally. What Local Editors can't do is see anyone's private Mumsnet membership details or posting history (sorry, only the Community team are allowed in there).

We don't expect Local Editors to do all this for free; Local Editors get revenue from Local advertising and offers.

We know we're not quite there with Local yet, but we're moving along, and we're on the brink of launching some whizzy new stuff that Tech's been putting together in a bunker all summer.

We've pasted a list of the sites needing Local Editors below so if you're interested in finding out more please email [email protected] with 'interested in becoming a Local Editor' in the subject field.

Some of the sites are still a bit empty, so take a look around Kent to see what a site looks like when it's populated with meet-ups, listings, Local Talk, Offers, etc:

Ideally you would have had some experience in a media, advertising sales or organisational role and be able to spell, but bags of enthusiasm and strong community links can go a long way to making a local site a success.

I think that Highlands and Islands would be ok as one area - you don't have to physically tootle around the whole country. If you have a Local Ambassador in the more remote areas willing to organise meet ups and help add listings, you could do the rest via email/FB and Twitter.

We had Dundee and Angus separate, and it didn't work because people tend to search for the whole area, not just the town.

Anyone who'd like to do this, but doesn't want to take on the responsibility, think about signing up as a Local Ambassador instead.

The LEs are working to organise discounts and freebies for our ambassadors with our advertisers and other local businesses and you would also get a shiny MN card which you could use to negotiate your own special treats (ie free coffees for you at the venue you use for your meet up or free entry to a local attraction in return for a kind review on the site).

We need LAs for following areas in Dundee Angus and Fife

Brechin
Forfar
Kirriemuir
Monifieth
Montrose

Cupar
Dunfermline
East Neuk
Fife wide
Glenrothes
Kinross
St Andrews
Leven
Taymouth

@RememberingMyPFEs

I found Somerset in the end - it doesn't show up in search...
I'd like to be an Ambassador for Nailsea if possible?

That's great, thanks so much. I can see Isabella's already set you up so let us know how you get on.

Oi mignonette, I wanted Suffolk! How near Ipswich are you?

Ipswich is a separate site, so do email about that if you haven't already!

Hastings is within East Sussex, which already has a Local Editor

For anyone who has emailed, don't worry if you haven't heard back yet. We've had lots of responses, which is brilliant, so we'll get to each and every one within the next week. As Becky said, keep them coming!

Just a quick suggestion, that on your links like active etc you should have a local active, you post on local and it gets lost as many dont look on there.

Or link it to the main site somehow.

Also I would love to run mine but its already taken, and it can be a bit stagnant as the mum who runs it isnt pushing it as much as it should.

Maybe asking more than one person or a group would ensure that new businesses are added, this way if one is busy another could help and this is not blocked for any others who would like to join in but cant as its one per area etc

That's why we need Local Ambassadors MrsB. It's too big of a job for one person.

Perhaps you could be an Ambassador for your area?

Also, soon, any time anyone posts in your local, it is going to show up in your regular Active Convos. Or so we have been told.
