Why am I getting an advert with buttocks in my face on mn?

Fraxinus · 31/08/2013 09:51

I was just looking at a parenting thread and there was a ridiculous advert alternating between fat person in cowering position and buttocks in my face advertising some kind of weight loss. Naturally I did not click on it to find out what kind of rubbish it was, but I am APPALLED to see such crap on mn. I see it enough on fb. They are clearly 2 Completely different women, and I resent the constant implication that if I am fat I need to be doing something to undergo some kind of radical transformation.

If I continue to see such crap on here I will be flouncing.

Hi there Fraxinus - so sorry to hear about this. Arse adverts really isn't what Mumsnet is about.

Can you you recall where you saw it - was it in the parenting topic? Or even better, do you think you could get a screenshot of it? Once we know what the advert looks like, we can look into removing it.

If anyone ever sees a naff advert on MN, the best thing to do is grab a screen shot and send it to us, then we can deal with it.

Sorry again about the advert!

Fraxinus · 31/08/2013 14:35

Hi kate.
Thanks for your response. I appreciate it's helpful if we take screen shots of inappropriate adverts for you to deal with them.

But I would like to know what your criteria for accepting ads is. There are loads of appropriate ads... Attractions, kiddy food, breast feeding ointment, buggies... Ok, I get it that it is a useful source of revenue, and potentially useful to mners.

Can you let us know how you decide what ads to accept? And what monitoring you employ?

I've already had this for a week ( and mentioned it - it's in the same place as the weight loss one was before, and they know about this)

Wink

Next week you have a very muscular person to look forward to. I have him now.

I think a lot of us are getting what is becoming the worst advertising slot in the known universe.

Anyone know a good adblocker?

KateSMumsnet · 31/08/2013 16:48

Sorry about the naff ads Rooners - we will chase this up!

We're just double checking how those particular ads work, and will get back to you with an answer asap.

Rooners · 31/08/2013 18:21

Oh that is brilliant Kate - thanks so much. I've been wondering if it was just some kind of malware.

Fraxinus · 01/09/2013 09:13

I have emailed you photos of said buttocks.
.... Waiting to hear back about Advertising policy.

Hi Fraxinus,
We are signed up to an ad exchange and they auto-supply ads to certain pages. We have blocked quite a few categories which we don't think are appropriate for MN, including weight loss as it happens, but sometimes the odd one slips through (I guess because they manage to get it categorised as something else - I am guessing but maybe health). When we, or most usually you, spot these we can block individual ads by their URL, which we are always happy to do. Hope that clarifies - thanks for raising it and apologies for the buttocks.

Fraxinus · 01/09/2013 10:34

Can you fine them for every inappropriate ad spotted?

Still getting the flashing buttocks here.

It now says in red and yellow writing 'lose weight fast, 24lb in 3 weeks' or some such nonsense. It's in chat.

Fraxinus · 02/09/2013 22:59

Yes, rooners, that's the one I was complaining about.

[grr]

Grin Sorry about the buttocks

That's the funniest thing I've read in here all night

RebeccaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 16:59

The buttocks have gorn - or so we are told.

Anyone seen any buttocks of late? Gawd knows I haven't

Bumpstarter · 08/09/2013 19:27

Hi rebecca, glad to hear they have gone. Has their appearance been investigated? It would be great to a have a spot the buttocks innapropriate ad competition and mumsnet gets to fine the ad company every time we spot a dodgy one. We could get to pick a charity to get free advertising slots as a reward. What do you think?

Loopytiles · 19/09/2013 19:46

The buttocks are there this eve! And a flabby / toned torso flickering!

Not impressed.

VirgoGrr · 19/09/2013 20:38

I have also had the disturbing buttocks. (Never thought I'd be saying that). :/ i
They've now been replaced by Dairy Milk though, so that's ok. :)

Missmodular · 19/09/2013 22:20

It's still there! Yuk.

Bumpstarter · 19/09/2013 23:33

The buttocks are back. I will email you the shots.

Your advertising policy/ procedure is not good enough.

giraffescantdanceallnight · 20/09/2013 10:58

aibu to want to see them?

RowanMumsnet · 20/09/2013 16:08

Oh dear - we're sorry. Do send us the screenshots and we'll get on it.

Bumpstarter · 20/09/2013 21:11

Have emailed.

cozietoesie · 21/09/2013 09:57

I'll keep an eye on this. Two or three weeks ago, I was getting ads/links to paid surrogacy in India, with poor Indian women - on a very dodgy site indeed. I realize that individual ads aren't completely within MN's control but maybe a little review of the protocols would be useful?

KateSMumsnet · 21/09/2013 13:16

Please do keep us abreast (or abuttock) of any inappropriate ads, and we'll do our best to nix them.

Bumpstarter · 21/09/2013 22:10

Hi Kate, thanks for your reply.

I really think that the advertising policy/ procedure is not good enough if we are complaining, you are barring, and then a few weeks later we are getting the exact same ad back again.

Please can you respond to this in a way which will have a ongoing impact, instead of just barring the odd ad that gets spotted by us, until the next one slips through?

Thanks
