It would be much easier if this was automatically ticked. Is this possible? :)

OOh. Can see your point. Doing the and thing is prob a bit tricky on a phone, right?

Anyone else keen on this?

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfJolly · 17/12/2012 14:10

It is tricky, yes. On my phone I have to press the 12# button then the 1/2 button then do the [[s

And you get lots of people saying 'sorry, can't do links, on phone'.

And almost every time I do a link I forget to check the 'convert links automatically' box and have to post again with the link corrected.

More generally, why aren't all URLs "converted" as a matter of course ?

I can't recall a single post where the URL remaining inactive is what the poster would have desired.

This baffles me.

I use the and check the box. Im using my phone. Do I not need to do both?

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfJolly · 17/12/2012 15:01

No, wannabe , you can just check the box rather than typing the [[s.

I did wonder that too, cumfy but thought that people might accuse me of being lazy. You do regularly see folk saying that there is no excuse for not doing links right.

www.google.co.uk

(no brackets, button unchecked)

www.google.co.uk

(no brackets, button checked)

Yep. The thing with the brackets is that it allows to include the link in your post in a classy, seamless no www. kinda way.

So, for example, you could post: 'The Mumsnet Home page is looking good today'

wannabedomesticgoddess · 17/12/2012 16:45

Ah I see. So the brackets are to change the appearance of the link! Thanks :)
