'ParentPort' folder - still not used 'right'

tiktok · 26/11/2012 12:05

Don't know why this bugs me so much - but I've raised it a couple of times, because I can see that this folder (in 'Being a Parent') is not being helpful to users. Posters new to mumsnet (AFAI can tell) post queries there that would get far more help if they were posted in the appropriate places. ParentPort is not for parenting queries or health queries or anything except what the blurb at the top says (which people apparently don't read!!). It means that people are asking questions and missing out on the great support MN can offer.

I suggest MNHQ move the folder, or move the posts, and definitely write a clearer blurb :)

Thanks!

Thanks for heads up tiktok
Will mention to the powers that be.

YankTeeDoodleDanTee · 26/11/2012 18:12

Just report the posts to HQ and they'll move them.

Dis anyone actually use Parent Port?

Flisspaps · 26/11/2012 18:15

I contacted MNHQ a while back about this, and asked if it was worth keeping given how it's not actually used by anyone for 'ParentPort' issues.

I didn't get a response Sad

BRANdishingMistletoe · 26/11/2012 18:27

What's ParentPort? (I'm a regular, but exceptionally dim and this is the first time I've heard of it.)

BRANdishingMistletoe · 26/11/2012 18:31

Oh, ok, found it. I didn't understand it, but I did find it.

As you were.

YankTeeDoodleDanTee · 26/11/2012 19:42

It gets hit because it's first in the list.

They just need to move it.

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 28/11/2012 22:49

Yes - I thought that too OP.

It is misunderstood and generally misused. Bit of a jumble sale really.

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 28/11/2012 22:52

Oh - just realised OP is tiktok of very helpful BF advice from back in the mists of time when body was generally failing and hungry babies were wailing... Can imagine that tiktok is infact one of the posters who newbies wouldn't want to miss advice from.

tiktok · 28/11/2012 23:06

:)

threesocksmorgan · 28/11/2012 23:07

can you just explain what parentport is for old people like me please

tiktok · 28/11/2012 23:08

....I see someone has just posted a query about their baby's head shape in Parent Port.

Confused
OP posts:
tiktok · 28/11/2012 23:09

You can read what Parent Port is - just read the blurb at the top of it. It has nothing to do with health or baby's head shapes or sleep or behaviour.

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 28/11/2012 23:11

The only time I went in there was to see lots of apron flapping about the Oreos advert.

Never been back!

threesocksmorgan · 28/11/2012 23:19

ooh pardon me for asking !!! wow helpful........not.
perhaps if MNHQ read this thread they could tell me.

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 28/11/2012 23:21

Here's the blurb:

This discussion topic is in partnership with ParentPort, a website run by the UK's media regulators. They set and enforce standards across the media to protect children from inappropriate material. If you've seen or heard something you felt was unsuitable for children ? maybe a programme on TV or online, a film, an advert, a video game or something in a magazine ? feel free to start a thread here to discuss it with other parents, and you can also make a complaint to the regulators via ParentPort.

WhispersOfWickedness · 28/11/2012 23:26

Ah, all makes sense now, I have spent time wondering what it was Blush
Could part of the problem be that the blurb doesn't appear if people are accessing the forum via the app? This is why I was confused about what it was for.

tiktok · 28/11/2012 23:30

threesocks, sorry, I can see my post sounded a bit curt! Was not meant to be - I was just directing you to the explanation of what it was, and eye rolling a bit at the topics that have appeared there :)

Hello, yes, we're aware that lots of folks do post the wrong kind of thing in the ParentPort topic by mistake - despite our note at the top.

We will try to move threads across to a more appropriate topic when we can.

Thanks for flagging this.

WhispersOfWickedness · 29/11/2012 10:36

Helen - the blurb doesn't appear on the app. Is there any way for it to be added as this might be part of the problem?

Ah- OK. Didn't realise that - thanks for letting us know.

Which App: android or iPhone?

BitBewildered · 29/11/2012 15:14

There isn't a blurb on the iPhone app.

tiktok · 29/11/2012 16:33

Ooh, it's all been cleared up now! All the non-ParentPort topics have been mysteriously moved elsewhere :) Someone's been along with a big cyber-hoover and done a spot of cleaning.

Thanks, MN!
