I've started a thread already.

It's only some threads. It's something to do with an advert. If you click in the drop down box next to the back button, it'll say something like

HTTP Not Found
www.mumsnet.com/doubleclick/DART

It's like a black hole.

They're aware of it. Not sure if they're fixing it.

TheLogLady · 11/01/2011 15:58

what drop down box?

and not that it matters but it is a tad annoying and i'm glad it's not just me.

There's a back button that looks like this:

And then a little arrow pointing down next to the forward button. That drop down box.

Started a thread a week ago.

TheLogLady · 11/01/2011 16:01

oh yes. i never knnew that was there Grin what's it for?

For clicking back/forward several pages without having to click on the back/forward button multiple times.

So say you follow a link to something and then you click through a few pages on a website, nosey about a bit and then want to go back to the original page you were on, you'd have to click back several times. But with the drop down box you can go straight to where you want.

ShowOfHands · 11/01/2011 16:04

It also means you can get out of the MN black hole.

TheLogLady · 11/01/2011 16:06

how useful Grin

It was google/mumsnet putting a cookie onto your machine when you went to a particular topic saying you were interested in the topic so that google can target ads at you in the future. Pressing back goes to the 'page' that put the cookie on.

You can opt out if you like, but you'd miss out on those pampers ads you mysteriously get after you have been browsing those 'baby's names' threads!

CatherineMumsnet · 12/01/2011 12:36

everything ok now?

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2011 12:39

There's no way of knowing if it's ok now really as it happens so randomly.

How do you opt out of this Heroine?

AdamTech · 12/01/2011 15:35

Can anyone experiencing this problem tell us which web browser and version you're using?

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2011 18:23

As I said on the thread I started over a week ago , I'm on IE7. Grin

It's still doing it btw. The last two times it happened I made a note of the advert on the thread (as somebody said it could be advert related) and both times it was Fisher Price. Might be a coincidence though.

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2011 20:42

Just done it again. Fisher Price ad again.

Littlefish · 12/01/2011 21:31

I'm on IE7 as well.

I then sometimes get a "mumsnet is offline, please try again in 30 seconds" message.

It's driving me nuts.

It means that it takes an age to navigate around the site.

scarletbegonia · 12/01/2011 21:38

Happens to me all the time, I have to press it about 3 times before it works.

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2011 22:00

Fisher Price ad every time.

Heroine · 13/01/2011 15:29

you can go to google (search for 'doubleclick' and then press opt out)

Littlefish · 13/01/2011 20:09

Fisher Price, Luxury Family Holidays and Boden are on the screen when mine does it.

Littlefish · 14/01/2011 06:41

Fisher Price, small Mark Warner, Boden

ChocolateMoose · 14/01/2011 07:05

Just happened with just a Fisher Price ad on the page and hovering over the ad it give the link as doubleclick something or other. Think that is the culprit.

Littlefish · 14/01/2011 20:09

Fisher Price, Mumsnet guides.

Littlefish · 14/01/2011 21:20

Fisher Price, Vira Soothe.

Seems pretty conclusiver to me that it is the Fisher Price advert that's causing it for me.

So, Tech, what can I do about it? It's unbelievably annoying and really starting to put me off using mumsnet at the moment.

Oblomov · 14/01/2011 21:51

Happens to me alot. Drtives me MAD. MAD. MAD.
