This one from Phil and Ted's. It could be fab for going on the bus, but do you think it would be easy to push?

Yes,it's two hours ahead of you lot.
Frenzied Kurdish music making at wedding across the road only just stopped though-couldn't have slept even if I'd wanted to but really should now....

bran · 14/08/2005 00:11

Night then, hopefully someone will admit to owning one of these tomorrow and can tell me what they're like.

Oh yes! Let's hope the pushchair japes continue!
Night..

ghost · 14/08/2005 00:13

racier - you mean like one of the two racy pushchairs that have appeared on here tonight. didnt notice the racing green one or the go faster stripes but that sleep deprivation for you!!!

ghost · 14/08/2005 00:15

night night, sleep tight and dont let the racy pushchair bite. (if it can be on two wheels - hard enought cornering in a reliant robin)

Re the buggy thing in the pic - Here in Jersey they are VERY popular. At trip to town results in you spotting at least two different ones
People always said you can't buy sense and there are some rich fools here lol

Bumping this for the surf-at-work crowd. Does anyone have one of these? Or has anyone seen one being used or tried one in a shop? I'm still thinking about buying it but I'm havering.

As a matter of curiosity how much is it ? I wonder how heavy it is once the baby is a bit bigger, as presumably you are suporting most of their weight to push it rather than having it more evenly distributed over the wheels. btw I've never seen a Bugaboo being pushed on just the two wheels in snow so I wonder if it is a real faff and therefore really a bit of a gimmick.

woodpops · 15/08/2005 10:32

I have a friend who has one. It's fab. In fact it's only 6 months old and she'd selling it. She didn't really need it as 1st child walks everywhere but she's a bit of a buggy head and 'had' to have one. I can't help but feel sorry for the baby though as all they look at is the back of a pushchair!!!!

bran · 15/08/2005 10:41

It's £99 rrp LIZS, Kiddicare.com have it for £94 I think.

I'm only really interested in it for travelling as I have a 3-wheeler that I love for local trips. I currently use a Volo for public transport as it's so light, but it doesn't look very comfortable when he falls asleep in it as it doesn't recline. I did consider the next Maclaren up but it's quite a bit heavier, and anyway I'm not keen on the little wheels that Maclarens have as I come to an elbow-jarring halt anytime there's a bit of uneven pavement.

I quite like it.

bran · 15/08/2005 10:42

Do you mean she has a Bugaboo or a Smart Buggy Woodpops?

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 15/08/2005 21:03

bran - you beat me to it. just seen it on kiddicare.com at £94.

so whos going to buy it and tell us all how it works?

bran · 15/08/2005 21:05

I vote for you to do it VYY. I'm still tempted, but I expect dh will talk me out of it (although he can't if I don't discuss it with him first )

Reminds me of an upright vacuum cleaner.

ghost · 15/08/2005 22:34

at the risk of being shot by mcclaren lovers- dont buy a mcclaren the small wheel are nothing to the ridiculous recline mechanism. You need two hands to lift the recline catch - one hand for either side, then you pull the seat back (the slightest tremor of hand and only one side reclines requiring you to repeat the action) you have to repeat this several times to get to the fully reclined position. My pliko though bigger is by far my favourite pushchairm one handed recline but obviously not a good for uneven ground as a three wheeler.

vickiyumyum · 16/08/2005 08:47

i'm such a buggyaholic if my ds2 wasn't 3yo i probably would buy it ! but no am resisting, also trying very hard not to buy a mamas and papas ziko!

Wills · 16/08/2005 08:55

Ghost - can't agree with you more. I used to be an amazing fan of mcClaren - wouldn't hear a word against them sort of thing. However dd2 is now 2 and the top of the range mcclaren buggy that I bought when she was 6 months is seriously struggling. And the recline! Bleeding awful. and once its down there's no getting anything out of the shopping basket. Bit annoyed because my dh is STILL winding me up with claims that I simply love buying buggies (possibly he's right).

Littlefish · 16/08/2005 08:56

Funnily enough Bran, I saw the Phil & Ted's one in a shop at the weekend and tried it out! Not because I need or want a new buggy, but just because I was intrigued. The handle pulls out so that it can be used by taller people. The thing that concerned me was that you would need to push the handle down a long way in order to go up slopes etc. which would put a strain on my back I think. You need to maintain a downward and forward pressure all the time, rather than just a forward pressure. I didn't try it with my dd in it so I don't know what it would be like with more weight in it. Think I'll stick to my existing buggy!

bran · 17/08/2005 11:57

I had a discussion with dh about this buggy last night and he said that ds is walking so probably won't be in a buggy for long periods of time anymore, we already have 2 pushchairs and only 1 child, we can't be sure that it will be any better than the Volo as we haven't tried it out and it looks odd. All of which is completely true and I totally agreed with him not to buy it.

So it's being delivered next week, my plan is to just prop it up against the wall in the hallway and hope he doesn't notice. If he asks I'll tell him it's a shopping trolley.

OP posts:
bran · 04/09/2005 20:25

Well, I bought it and I really don't like it for all sorts of reasons. So I'm still looking out for something lightweight that will work better than the Volo. Must start a thread on that subject.

A quick summary for anyone that's thinking about buying one
Good things:
Very comfortable seat for ds, he enjoyed the rocking motion that it does when I walk along;
Very light and has a wheel position that makes it very easy to go up and down steps backwards;
Would probably work quite well in very smooth environments (shopping centres or airports).

Bad things:
Doesn't cope well with uneven pavements, sometimes I just stopped dead which jarred my shoulders;
The adjustable handlebar is very hard to tighten into position, so when I stopped dead (see above) sometimes the handlebar just collapsed down to it's lowest level;
Because it only has two wheels you have to go up onto kerbs backwards, not great for where I live as there are lots of side streets and therefore lots of kerbs;
The brake is a total nightmare although you don't have to use it much except when collapsing the buggy, it's practically impossible to release;
The shopping basket is teeny weeny, about the size of a man's shoebox;
The seat recline doesn't recline very much (about 20 degrees).

Now I have to get rid of it and buy something better without my dh realising. Propping it up in the hallway and not saying anything worked very well, dh didn't even realise I had bought it until he came home as I was showing it to my mum so I think I can get away with it so long as any future pushchairs don't appear in an identifiable form on the credit card statment.

ahh bran! i've got a maclaren global to sell in black which i have only used a couple of times. as we all know i'm a complete buggyaholic so am constantly making big mistakes or rush decisions and then regretting them!

the volo is far more lightweight than the global though so this is probably more what you are looking for.

bran · 05/09/2005 20:20

vickiYY, I've had a look at the whole Maclaren range, the next one up from the Volo (the Triumph) has a reclining seat but still has the problems of small wheels and no suspension and all the ones above the Triumph are too heavy (ie over 5kg). I don't know the Global but I expect it's heavier than I want. Thanks for the offer though. Everyone seems to be trying to sell me their buggies, I expect you all think if I'm stupid enough to buy the P&T then I might just be stupid enough to buy all of your mistakes too.

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 06/09/2005 19:09

LOL bran - we don't think that you are stupid enough to buy our prams because you brought the p&t, you were the brave one for taking a risk!

the global is quite heavy, probably not much lighter than a mamas and papas pliko, its one that has a bumper bar and lays flat and can be used from birth with a car seat. wasn't trying to flog you my rejects, honest! just trying to clear some of my collection before my dh starts complaining again as collection seems to have got rather large again!

Vaunda · 08/09/2005 22:53

i have seen tham and think they are awful... sorry if you have one.I just don't think they look very safe or sturdy.
