I always worry about them setting fire whilst I am out! Saddo.

Is it just stewy casserole stuff that you can make?

I have a beef casserole cooking away nicely in mine right now.

I couldn't do without mine.

csa · 03/08/2005 13:01

LOL northerner
you should ask your dad

madmarchhare · 03/08/2005 13:08

QOQ - instead of reprinting what people have said, why don't you just put their name at the front?

"or is that where you get your mumsnet name from?"

C'mon, keep up!

oliveoil · 03/08/2005 13:09

Ahem, I was trying to politely tell her to stop doing it .

Damn.

Gillian76 · 04/08/2005 13:45

We have one I inherited from MiL (deceased and FiL was clearing out the kitchen cupboards of all the stuff he was never going to use).

I was very excited about it and prepared my beef stew at 9am the day after taking possession. Put it on low and at 6pm everything was still undercooked. What did I do wrong all you slow cooker experts? Is it a naff machine? Do you have to put it on high? Any ideas? Sadly no instruction manual with it!

Have to confess it has remained unused after my first failed attempt!

RachD · 04/08/2005 14:01

Gillian
That happened to me.
Was gutted.
DH who loves all food, immediately threw it out nad couldn't get to the shops quick enough to get a new one.
And since then we have have every success.

Maybe I threw it out unneccessarily ??

Lizzylou please send me the recipe for morrocan chicken.
And Mrs Doolittle, is that dumpling recipe, sara lewis ?

My mouth is literally watering

Gillian76 · 04/08/2005 14:05

Hmm maybe we need to fork out for a new one then?

MrsDoolittle · 04/08/2005 14:17

Yes that dumpling recipe is Sara Lewis, I seriously recommend the book, it's amazing that such lovely food can be made sooo simply

bundle · 04/08/2005 14:18

oh goody, the slow cooker thread is back.

Gillian76 · 04/08/2005 14:24

If we are going to get a new one, are there any recommendations? Or are they all much the same?

Might give the ol' girl another chance first!

oliveoil · 04/08/2005 14:38

Dh has poo pood my idea of a slow cooker, and says we don't need one .

OP posts:
Gillian76 · 04/08/2005 14:41

Have you showed him this???

How can he not be convinced?

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 14:42

"Ahem, I was trying to politely tell her to stop doing it"

Well tough

MrsDoolittle · 04/08/2005 14:43

He can poo poo the idea if he does all the cooking!
Morphy Richards are highly regarded. I have a 4 litre one, we got it in Tescos for £25.
We don't have the space for the bigger one

TwinSetAndPearls · 04/08/2005 14:44

My slow cooker is a life saver, make all sorts in it.

Gillian76 · 04/08/2005 14:48

Really, MrsD?

DH cooks Spanish Omelette about once a month! That's it!

jabberwocky · 04/08/2005 15:02

Dh loves ours. He makes this chicken mole' (spelling? pronounced mo-lay) in it mainly. I know other people who use it for making large quantities of chili or spaghetti sauce. I could never really get into it but maybe because I'm not that big on roasts.

oliveoil · 04/08/2005 15:19

He does do all the cooking but I have to do the girls when I am off work so would like to shove stuff in, go to the park or whatever and come back to some nice stew. Harumphh. Not that they would eat it anyway..........
