Can anyone recommend a good hand moisturiser?

I had my dd 4 months ago and have found that my hands have become very dry with all of the hand washing and use of alcohol rub. It's got to the point where the skin on my fingers is splitting

Can anyone recommend a good moisturiser that won't make my hands greasy?

Thanks in advance x

Clarins Hand and Nail treatment cream - it's lovely!

Also heard good things about Body Shop hemp cream and Neutrogena Norweigan hand cream.

Thank you

Crabtree and Evelyn La Source Hand Therapy is really good stuff. And plaster Vaseline on before you go to bed. And use rubber gloves for washing up etc.

I'd second Clarins Hand & Nail Cream, only cream I have ever had that rubs in properly without feeling greasy.

I have very sore hands from all the hand washing, and cold weather, and find (oh no not this again) Waitrose baby bottom butter.
It stops the itching and helps soften the skin. lots on before bedtime, smells nice too!!!!!

Someone on here was raving about Elizabeth Arden 8-hour hand cream the other day and several others came on to say that yes it was wonderful, although it apparently smells of cat wee, which is not so good. Haven't tried it myself but I almost went out and got some straight away, as my hands are in need of some serious attention.

Crabtree & Evelyn gardener's hand cream is nice - smells good, absorbs nicely.

Body Shop - Hemp Hand Cream, £10, my hands kept splitting but have been fine since starting using ths.

BarbEDahl · 11/03/2010 20:35

L'Occitane shea butter is my fav but I also rate the hemp Body Shop one too.

oooggs · 11/03/2010 20:43

My hands were so dry they were sore and bleeding

I have 4 dcs with 3 of them being under 3 so doing nappies, potty stops and accidents all day so always washing them.

I have tried loads and the best one was Neutrogena Norweigan hand cream it was amazing and my nails look fab too.

Hope you find something that works for you

brockleybelle · 11/03/2010 20:48

Love the body shop hemp butter. It immediately soothes and takes away dryness. Well worth the money.

angel886 · 11/03/2010 21:41

I've bought some Neutrogena Norweigan cream to try so I'll see how that goes for now! I don't like the idea of the one that smells like cat wee

yes body shop hemp one - dh uses it when his hands are knackered from building sites (nice manly packaging) and army mates request it in care packages - apparently desert is v drying.

I've just sat here sniffing my hands! Got some 8 hour on now and have never thought it smells of cat pee. It's got a distinct smell, yes but I wouldn't call it fucking terrible.

I really like the 8 hour in terms of dealing with chapped/cracking skin but have also used the neutrogena norwegian before, they have an unscented option

Never found the likes of Dove, Vaseline, Avon, Nivea, etc work for more than a few minutes.

Neutrogena for me too - loads on at bedtime. I'm just useless at remembering the rest of the time! Personally wouldn't bother with alcohol rub - so long as hands are washed well they will be hygienic, surely? And if doing the washing up, try to use gloves. I hate using gloves, but when skin gets cracked they are first thing to help improve the situation - at least it will reduce the amount of times your hands are in contact with water.

penona · 11/03/2010 22:49

I also love the Clarins Hand and Nail treatment cream. Can also recommend a No 7 hand recovery cream (Crabtree and Evelyn do one too), which is like an exfoliator for the hands, I find it really helps. In fact C&E do a kit of this exfoliator and the hand cream (called 60 second hands I think), which I have given to many friends on their becoming a new mum!

Have you tried some different alcohol rubs? There are some nice moisturising hand sanitizers out there, can't remember the one I liked now (from Boots tho). Also, wear gloves when pushing the buggy, esp in this weather, that was always my downfall.

angelene · 11/03/2010 22:50

Flexitol is great, you only need a little bit.

Also you can get alcohol free hand sanitisers which kill germs just as well if not better than the alcohol gels, and they don't dry your hands out.

SixtyFootDoll · 11/03/2010 22:52

Soap and glory hand food

swissmiss · 25/03/2010 21:16

Savlon works wonders. Completely forgot about it until recently when tried some on DD's chapped/cracked thumbs. I started to use it too and the backs of my knuckles have stopped splitting.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 25/03/2010 21:18

alcohol rub? is there a reason you're using that? and where?

jooseyfruit · 25/03/2010 21:19

I second soap and glory hand food

jennymac · 26/03/2010 13:34

I had same problem and found the best cream to be Burt's Bees hand cream. Lasts forever as you only need a tiny bit each time but the effects are immediate.
