Pram solution needed for 22mth old and new born....

I'm getting desperate, having checked out all the shops I still haven't seen anything that comes close to being a suitable solution. I do loads of walking and with the baby due in September I'm panicking that I'll be housebound with a newborn.

The problem I'm having is finding a pushchair light enough (as I'm quite weak and short 5'3'') but also really cosy and secure for a newborn. Ideally I'd like a proper pram for the new baby but my ds is still too young to walk, he also still sleeps in the pushchair.

I have seen the first wheels twin elite which has a carry cot attachment but it is really expensive, has anyone else seen anything similar or able make a recommendation.

We have just bought a second hand double three wheeler off E-bay which is proving to be a great success with my 2 year old and 11 day old. The seats recline right back so baby is able to lie flat while toddler, who tends to get lazy at times, especially when he thinks he's giving up his buggy for baby, is able to sit and as I had a c-section it means he is containable and I'm not having to lift him, etc. This buggy is fairly light, very easy to manouvre and folds up neatly too. Hope this helps.

Hi ragdoll, im also looking for a pushchair for toddler and newborn. Looked in mothercare yestaday, they had a twin pushchair for £90 but not sure if its sutible, it looked ok. Also looked in toys r us today and they have a graco tandem on offer for £109 you can use this as a travel system but only one of the seets lies right back. They also have a side by side graco pushchair for £109, both seets lie back. If you find any bargins please let me know as im still unsure which to buy.b

A word of warning.... Those Graco tandems can be quite heavy to get up kerbs with an older toddler in the front seat. Perhaps not ideal for a self confessed 'weakling'

The Phil and Teds E3 gets rave reviews on here...

marne · 16/07/2005 15:01

I love phil and teds but soooooooo expensive for somthing you might only use for a few months. I would love one but cant afford to spend that much on a car let alone a push chair lol.

Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 15:08

Budget is around 200 although I would pay more if I found perfect solution. I would be really swayed by a product that has a 'proper' flat cosy carrycot style space for the newborn. I also like the look of the all terrain styles as I like the 'trendy' look.

You can often pick up a bargain on Ebay...

NomDePlume · 16/07/2005 15:15

Anything here ?

Don't forget that you can always make a note of the model and manufacturer of anything that's out of your budget and search for it cheaper on Ebay....

NomDePlume · 16/07/2005 15:17

I like the look of this . It looks light and easy to manouvre without being too long.

NomDePlume · 16/07/2005 15:19

This is out of budget , but it has the looks you want and I'll bet you find it cheaper elsewhere.

stripey · 16/07/2005 15:29

I had the Graco duoplus Tandem which cost only £90 and was perfect for my newborn as the back section lies totally flat and the front seat made it seem like a proper carrycot type pram I even had a matress in there. The problem was the front seat doesnt fully recline and it is heavy. The front seat didn't bother me as ds1 didn't sleep in the pram and it was perfect for shopping trips may be too much to push all of the time although it was definitely easier and lighter than using a buggy board.

The other great thing about the tandem was if ds1 chose to walk or wasn't with me it was like pushing a single and when ds2 was 9 months old he sat in the front making the whole thing much easier to manouvre and quite light.

Probably not the solution for you but may help someone else.

Still have it if anyone lives in London and wants it for £35.

The cosato one looks great and not too expensive, looks realy light, not sure if it looks big enough for a toddler, but its the best one ive seen yet ( i want one ).

katzguk · 16/07/2005 16:11

what about something like this?

pram and toddler seat

Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 16:24

the cossatto one does look good. has anyone ever had a zooper ??? available at john lewis.

Nemo1977 · 16/07/2005 16:24

marne i would imagine the cosatto duet lite to be similair to the marco sky but suitable from newborn. IT is the pram i am considering or the mrco sky and there are numerous threads on the marco sky so have a look as it may give u an idea.

Nemo1977 · 16/07/2005 16:26

ragdoll i hvaent got my pram yet but whaty puts me off the prams with toddler seats so that if ur little one has a tendancy to fall asleep in the pram they cant lie back. My ds will be just 2 when the baby arrives but still falls asleep if out for a while etc but if u have a little one who stays awake then the zooper looks fab.

Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 16:28

he always goes to sleep in the buggy and my current one lies right back for him so hes really comfy.

OP posts:
Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 16:30

I don't think he could lie back in the cossatto but the zooper at john lewis is side by side I think so should be ok for ds1 - but is it padded/flat enough for bump?

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 16/07/2005 16:30

the marco sky doesnt fully lie back but it does enough for toddler to sleep. Which to me is essential and it also seems the most lightweight of the doubles/tandems.

Nemo1977 · 16/07/2005 16:31

raggydoll if u dont think its padded enough get a cosy toes where the front zips off and use it as a cushion/pad for baby.

Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 16:34

sorry nemo, I think I got the wrong end of the stick - your little one still sleeps in the buggy and you're considering a msky? Does this mean the msky and the cosatto recline so the toddler can sleep as well...

OP posts:
Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 16:35

cross posted - good idea about the cosy toes - they do a lovely sheepskin one.

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 16/07/2005 16:35

raggy yes the front seat does recline just not as much as the back...or so i have been told anyway.

Raggydoll · 16/07/2005 16:42

larlylou - what make is your 3 wheeler?

OP posts:
lmccrean · 16/07/2005 17:29

what age is your ds? would you consider a sling/carrier for new baby for 6 mths or so til your ds can stand on a "buggy board", or walk? I know its not everyones cup of tea, but I thought I should mention it.
