How do you feel about the HARRY POTTER book coming out at midnight when children are in bed?

Do you think it is fair on them?

Do you think that it should be at 6 or 7am or something like that?

DS wanted to go at midnight with DH and we have said no.

So we have agreed a deal that DH will go and get it at midnight and DS will get it in the morning first thing.

But is anyone here letting their child go and get it at midnight?

So are you going to let them stay up all night to read it?

No I don't think it is fair. DH is working tonight and I can hardly get DS (19mths) up to go and get it so I can read it all night

As far as the kids are concerned it should be midday (would suit me better too )

Im getting the harry pooter book tonight.... but not for the kids - its for me!

and yep, i'll probably stay up all night to read it!

We have ordered our copy from WHSmiths so we know we can go it anytime and they will deffo have one with our name on.

DS is excited and wants to read it as soon as possible

That is the reason DH is going to get it at midnight not queue up though cos is only little town local shop

I just think unfair on the children to launch at midnight

I think for the older child it might be a nice one off adventure to wait up then go and get the book at midnight. Younger kids probably won't care either way as long as they get it at some point in the day?! Ours is arriving via Amazon first thing - hurrah - no kids, it's for dh and I although I guess in theory db (33+2) will get to hear it too - we sit and read to each other if we've got a book we both want to read!

In edingburgh HMV shops they put them on the shelves today and people were reading them

Yes twiga I agree it would be an adventure

BUT DS will sit up all night to read it and so will not sleep at all

He will be too excited beforehand and then will read in the early hours etc.

I don't get what all the fuss is about, why would you go out at midnight for it??!!

Well we are usually still up at 2am so it isn't really any different to DH working or going to the shops

He won't be there early and queueing

I am usually still on here until 1 or 2 am

Are your children old enough to be excited by Harry Potter yet?

If not, then you prob won't get it

Anyway, surely it is good to have your children excited about reading a book isn't it???????

He is 10

He could do that but tomorrow morning he has his drama club production and so it would not work

And he does not do lie ins

He is up each day at 6am and sometimes before that.

A lie in is 7am

Our local, small book shop is having Owls and a dressing up comp. DS is nearly 6 and would love to go, but he has to wait untill morning .

Just hype. Releasing it at midnight creates more demand.

It'll turn up in charity shops in a few months anyway.

I'm in the process of trying to persuade dh to go to Asda at midnight but he's having none of it.
