my ancient dyson has finally died.It has been a trusty reliable vacuum for years but I've heard bad things about the new era of dysons so I'm reluctant to get another one.
I've heard that sebo is a good make.I need it for both wooden floors and carpets... any recommendations?

we've got 2 of Hoover 1900W extra lightweight dust management bagless system. They don't have a bag, you have to clean and wash it, get all the gunge out (it builds up very quickly btw (in dishwasher if you have one) every month. They have attachments. It does the job for us and you can buy one for around £149, or £99 if on sale.

we used to have a dyson, found the suction wasnt asgood as people say, we have got a small vax (not sure what model) its a small pull along one from argos, suction is better than the dyson and it has different settings for verious floors.

Blondeinlondon · 13/07/2005 21:33

we have a morphy richards premair 2000 - seems okay for both bare boards and carpet

tiffini · 13/07/2005 21:34

upright Diversey Lever Hoovers are the bees knees, way way better than dysons.

polly28 · 13/07/2005 21:35

thanks guys,no one have a sebo then?

polly, do a search on Dyson or Henry or Miele or Sebo or hoover (or even vacuum cleaner!) - there are lots of threads. I'm a Miele woman meself but Sebo and Henry both have lots of fans.

tiffini · 13/07/2005 21:44

Asebo is what i meant, I got confused as i used to buy them through Diversey Lever, sebo's are fantastic the best i have used and very durable.

tiffini · 13/07/2005 21:47

here

I have the sebo BS36, had it 4 years and still as good as new, and i hoover a heck of a lot

MumsRCool · 14/07/2005 12:02

I hate, hate, hate my Dyson. It's too heavy, too cumbersom and too complicated. Hate it, hate it!!! I wish that we hadn't bought it and have told DH that just as soon as we can justify it we're buying a new cleaner. He doesn't understand how someone can have such a strong emotional veiw towards an inanimate object. It's days are numbered.............

highlander · 14/07/2005 14:29

yesterday we bought a Miele Cat and Dog. 2000W of power

The absolute best bit is a separate attachement (actually 2) for doing the carpets called the turbo head. It's like an extra vaccum cleaner on the end of the hose. A wide one for rooms and a narrow one for the stairs.

It's soooooo bloody good; no effort required. tested to last 20 years.

It's not bagless, but the bags aren't your cheap paper and cardboard muck. They self-seal when you remove them. I personally hate bagless vacs anyway as my hands get really itchy when I change the cylander.

AND the room doesn't smell of dust afterwards

highlander · 14/07/2005 14:30

we don't actually have any pets, but my hair falls out a lot

noddyholder · 14/07/2005 14:32

another vote for miele cat and dog here Brilliant whether you have pets or not

imation · 26/12/2005 18:15

Highlander, r u still happy with your Miele hoover? i'm looking to buy one at the moment and it's soooo difficult to make a final decision. cheers

KeyserSoze · 26/12/2005 18:17

not dyson
or sebo imfo

MuddlingThru · 26/12/2005 18:31

Another vote for miele cat and dog - no idea how cat hair can become so attached to carpet but this hoover does the business sucking it up.

GingerBearingGifts · 26/12/2005 18:50

I love my Miele CnD. Replaced elderly dyson this summer. Carpets have never been so clean. Brill on hard floors too.

MUMBOjingleJUMbells · 26/12/2005 19:29

Just got a Henry - brilliant. Hated my old dyson which tended to blow instead of sucking. Used to take ages to do the cleaning - so it's bye bye dyson!

PS The kids love Henry too - two little helpers to help with the vacuuming now!

santabops · 26/12/2005 19:31

I vote for a Henry.

Tyakit · 26/12/2005 20:04

Our vac died on 23rd Dec so ordered a new Henry Xtra (comes with super duper airo brush) from website and am really pleased as at £99 it was £25 cheaper than everywhere else and next day delivery was only £5. Service was great too and it did arrive next day - Xmas Eve!!

Was worried that it wouldn't be as good as our old Vac as it was a mega expensive Sebo but actually it is fab and picks up even better than the old one.

Eaney · 26/12/2005 21:17

Miele here as well. Love it and it has the Hepa filter for you allergy sufferers.

trace2 · 28/12/2005 17:16

Tyakit whitch web site did you get it from??

Janh · 28/12/2005 17:22

Homebase have a 10% off day next week and an ordinary Henry will be - um - I've forgotten, will have to go and look but quite cheap!

Miele are fantastic though.

trace2 · 28/12/2005 17:24

thanks Janh where and whitch one do i go for?/

MrsSpoon · 28/12/2005 17:27

I love my Henry but I mostly have hard floors. If you've got a lot of carpets consider getting the one with the beater bar.
