posted a while back about sofas and thought i'd decided to get one from multiyork.
went out today, and our nearest store was shut due to powercut, grrr.
sooo then i got to looking around and saw a nice one in habitat, but not sure if you're just paying for the name in there?

have been googling all evening and now am just confused!
how can i tell if a sofa is decent? i liked some of the GPlan ones but then came across a forum where people were less than complimentary!

what companies really do produce quality furniture that lasts?
what sofa do you have that you love???

I've just had my 2 multi york sofas delivered. They are very nice, heavy, probably well made. Got a good deal + interest free credit for 2 years. They are very comfortable - a bit firmer than our old one, but that is almost 10 years old (I still love it though)

Good thing about multiyork is you can buy covers in the sales at a good price (apparently).

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 28/12/2009 00:26

Our last 2 sofas have been ikea. Current one seems okay but previous one tore and we couldn't get replacement covers. If you need spare covers get them at the same time as the sofa - that's my tip.

thisisyesterday · 28/12/2009 21:46

thanks for the replies, I'd heard that about the covers too feelingforty, and you can apparently get covers made up for any sofa they've ever made because they keep the patterns.

my plan was to buy 2 sets of washable covers to start with

ikea i did look at, but tbh they've pissed me off lately and i don't feel inclined to buy from them!
i like the fact that multiyork are made in the UK too.... i don't really want to buy something that's been made on the cheap abroad iyswim?

I have got a pair of these and they are wonderful. They are essentially an internet company but they do have a showroom in London if you can get there. If you can't, you can order them and return if you don't like - when we visited I had already decided on the style and colour I liked and didn't change my mind when I got them.
There were a couple of problems when I got them but they were dealt with quickly. Everyone who sits on them says how comfy they are and I am thinking about ordering another set of covers!!

Sold?? and no, I don't work for them!!!

thisisyesterday · 28/12/2009 22:03

website looks good! they say all the right things about how their sofas are constructed, and i'd gfet free delivery too.... hmmmm
just browsing the ranges now1~

ooo just looking at sofa.com, looks lovely, but expensive for delivery to us, in scotland. any other recommendations??

brimfull · 28/12/2009 22:17

I have had laura ashley, ikea , furniture village and sofa workshop.

Worst was sofa workshop, absolute shite quality.

Would buy any of the others again although Laura ashley overpriced imo.

We are on ikea atm and it is very comfy . I do want the stockholm one now though.

thisisyesterday · 28/12/2009 22:22

ggirl, did your others need replacing or did you just do it cos you wanted to?

i really want one that's going to last a good 10-15 years, can't be doing with spending this much too often lol

OP posts:
brimfull · 28/12/2009 22:26

Laura ashley one was leather and beautiful but cushions kept coming off and pissing us off so we sold it

Furniture village we just got sick of , lasted yrs we grew out of the hideous pattern and wanted a change.

Sofa workshop went all lumpy and horrid after a yr or so so we dumped it and got ikea which we have now.

TBh i get bored easily so the thought of having the same sofa for decades fills me with horror- hence the ikea.I can change without too much guilt.

humptynumpty · 28/12/2009 22:44

which ikea one do you have?

brimfull · 28/12/2009 22:48

ektorp 3 seater

I want a bigger one now , I am never satisfied

tethersjinglebellend · 28/12/2009 22:48

Anyone got the Kramfors? I think I'm about to buy it...

brimfull · 28/12/2009 22:50

someone started a thread recently about kramfors , said it was rock hard when she got it home and was having a tester round or summat.

humptynumpty · 28/12/2009 22:50

think will have to be ikea. god is such a headache!! does anyone have an ikea sofabed?

southeastastra · 28/12/2009 22:54

i'm tempted by the grey stripey next sofa. anyone have one from next?

tethersjinglebellend · 28/12/2009 22:57

Thanks ggirl, will try and find it...

Swedington · 28/12/2009 23:02

We recently bought a Duresta 'George' sofa (3 seater) from John Lewis. It's upholstered in gorgeous striped green, gold and red velvet and we love it.

tethersjinglebellend · 28/12/2009 23:08

Found the thread, but it was the Karlstad sofa(bed) which was rock hard.

Phew.

(BTW ggirl, did the photo printouts work ok?)

thisisyesterday · 28/12/2009 23:11

ahh swedington, i am coveting a beautiful pinky velvety stripey one i saw somewhere. but need to be more practical right now! lol

did have a look on john lewis, maybe will go and have another nose.

i think the main problem i am having is that multiyork do exactly what i want. well-built, made in uk, completely removable washable covers, 10 yr warranty etc etc

but i don't LOVE the styles, and if i am going to have it for ages i need to love it,.

I LOVE the habitat ones, but don;'t know if they'll last as well

OP posts:
brimfull · 28/12/2009 23:14

tethersjinglebellend- did it today!!

After figuring out how to scan a photo (luddite) I printed it out but ran out of ink .

Am off to get ink tomorrow to try again , but can't find the image now so will have to start all over again .

noddyholder · 28/12/2009 23:15

Have had several habitat and they are great.ikea not so durable and 'lighter' frames.john Lewis good and had a multi york years ago that i loved

catinthehat2 · 28/12/2009 23:16

Colleague is in long term fight with M&S re sofas to do with cushions falling off. Beware.

noddyholder · 28/12/2009 23:19

i love this

tethersjinglebellend · 28/12/2009 23:19

Gah. Always the way. Good luck with it anyway
