Small hijack of thread here (sorry mandyc66).

QE - what's the Tourneo like for parking - can you get it in a standard multi-storey carpark (thinking of headroom and getting out of the doors?)

Anyone got one of those Mercedes ones that look like posh buses?

QueenEagle · 01/07/2005 14:48

No you can't get in multi storey car parks as it's too high to go under the barrier.

Parking is fine though as the rear doors slide open and shut.

Tourneos look a little bit like the Merc style buses, but perhaps a little more square looking.

Are you thinking of getting a Tourneo then?

robinia · 01/07/2005 15:10

I'm expecting no.5 in October. We've got a Renault Espace at the moment but it's already a bit cramped and I've seen the Tourneos driving around locally. Ideally would like it to go in multi-storey carpark though as we don't have (and currently don't need) a second car and local shopping centres are 90% multi-storeys.

I'm quite good knowing pros and cons of most of the standard MPVs but they mostly just don't seem to be quite big enough. Need to look into Caravelles too, and these Mercedes buses. Are there any other big (but not too high!) MPVs/minibuses?

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 07:10

I was thinking of caravelle or 807 but now on look out for toureno..dont use multi stories much but some of the carparks do have height restrictions...must keep that in mind!

If you don't need the fancy swivel seats etc on the VW Caravelle, try the same T5 Transporter based Shuttle it's a lot cheaper. Comes in either short or long wheel base form.
Much more car like to drive and far quieter engines than the Merc equivalent - the Vito based Traveliner.

spidermama · 02/07/2005 21:16

You can pick up a Toyota Townace really cheaply at the moment. They're good cars/vans but engines have a tendancy to overheat so check milage on old ones and keep coolant system well maintained.

Otherwise, you can't beat the VW Transporter.

mandyc66 Picking up my Ford Tourneo next sat!! I feel in love with it, but then I love driving transits and that is exactly what its like.

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 21:28

just wonder if its a 'family' car!! Although it would be great to have spare seats!! Are you buying new or is there a secondhand market out there?

Mandyc66 - my dad just bought a Torneo to cart my three youngest siblings around. He got one that was about 7/8 years old for about 5 grand I think! He did have to go a long way to buy it though...they seem quite rare.

Xena · 02/07/2005 21:33

I'm a childminder so that is why I am buying it (an 03 plate)
Queen Eagle has one as she has 4 boys and is thinking that they will be strapping lads before she knows it!!
We have 3 children and DH was asking if we will be going on holiday in it (we have a peugot 406 as well) and the children said yes as they don't want to be squashed!

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 21:35

just looking at vw aite

I test drove the caravelle as well, I liked it (we had one when I was a child) and it was more 'family' suited, as I say I just like the transits from a driving point of view.
If I had the money I would have bought the Mercedes Vito though.

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 21:40

well money is of course a factor. thenthe space thing. there are 7 of us plus baggage and of course nanna!!!!!

OP posts:
Xena · 02/07/2005 21:41

Have you got 5 children? I think that I would pick the tourneo for overall space as well. My one has 9 seats perfect for nana as she could go in the front with you and you DH DP

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 21:42

no she can go in the back!!!!! Is it 3 rows of 3?

OP posts:
Xena · 02/07/2005 21:44

Yes 3 of 3 in the front there is an individual drivers seat and then the 2 passengers are joined.

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 21:47

got someone looking for one for me. Not sure of price though. will look into vw and 807 too.

milward · 02/07/2005 21:54

The grand espace is 7 seats in a 2/3/2 seat setup - with luggage room in the back - a great car. A friend who has six kids has an 806 that suits her fine.

Xena · 02/07/2005 21:55

Have you tried the autotrader website? Thats where I always look. The toyota previa is a nice 8 seater. Auto Trader
You will need to click on vans for the tourneo, and also to see more caravelles

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 22:08

want 8 seats all 3point seat belts

OP posts:
mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 22:10

and the minibuses!!!!

OP posts:
Xena · 02/07/2005 22:16

The tourneo has all 3 point belts only the new caravelle do, the 03 caravelle we looked at the bak 2 rows middle seat had only got a lap belt.

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 22:23

looks like the ford is getting the best points so far!!!

Puppy · 03/07/2005 22:21

Hi mandyc66, we collected our new car on friday, its a fiat ulysse , 8seats, all the seats are the 3 point belt system. They are similar to citroen c8, hope this helps you in your quest for a new car
