My dp has always got ds (14m) nappies from Makros I have never really asked how much they are he just picks them up on way home from work. I had nearly run out and i ran up somerfields and they were nearly £6 for 26 pampers baby dry. I checked dps makro bills and he pays £13.50 for 141 nappies and £5 for 6x72 wipes. I will never ever buy nappies in somerfield again... what a rip off!!!

That's why I'm going for cloth ones this time (well part of the reason anyway) - no Macro's near us, it would have to be Morrisons or Boots! I've spent about £100 and that should do us for about the first year!

starlover · 15/06/2005 10:06

good for you miaou!

loulabelle222 · 15/06/2005 10:08

so with cloth nappies do you just have to keep buying the liners?

OP posts:
starlover · 15/06/2005 10:09

yeah... unless you use reusable liners which you just wash with the nappies

Miaou · 15/06/2005 10:09

You can buy washable fleece liners, or disposable ones.

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:11

Yes loula,my nappies cost me nothing,as I used them on dd first.More money to spend on me,me,me.

(I'm not a complete earth mother!)

Miaou · 15/06/2005 10:13

moondog!

loulabelle, it's perhaps worth thinking about, particularly if you may have more children ... your ds is about 14m, is he? Even getting them now would save you money before he is potty trained.

Bear in mind though they are slightly more bulky than disposables so you have to dress him with that in mind.

JoolsToo · 15/06/2005 10:14

gdg - gets hers cheap cos my mate works at Proctor and Gamble

loulabelle222 · 15/06/2005 10:16

i will think about it for next one.. just dont know if i could cope with all the washing.. i think that is me being lazy!

OP posts:
moondog · 15/06/2005 10:16

Boo! Hiss!!!! P&G!!! The devil incarnate!!!!!

JoolsToo · 15/06/2005 10:17

I think you mean 'bloody' P&G don't you moondog

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:18

There is no washing loula1!! Well nothing worth mentioning. Throw 'em straight into a bucket with a lid, when it's full, bung 'em in the washing machine. What's hard about that?

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:19

Oh tes.that's probably.......corporatist isn't it!!!
Oooh, let's have a vote on it! Better still a nationwide referendum.

loulabelle222 · 15/06/2005 10:19

so how many would you need to buy initially? and do they come in different sizes? sorry i am new to all of this

OP posts:
zebraZ · 15/06/2005 10:22

yes they come in differnt sizes, but you would only need toddler sizes (your baby would be past the medium and tiny sizes).

How many you buy depends how you wash, how often you wash, and how quickly you can dry them. I filter nappies that have only been wee'd on with my regular washing (so that's some nappies washed almost daily), and the pooped-on ones go with sheets/bedding/anything else that should wash at 60 degrees (so that's usually once/week or 2 weeks). Around 20 nappies with 4 large wraps would be enough for most people with one baby.

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:22

You do need to do a bit of research initially loula. Undeniably, initial outlay can be hefty but over the course of a couple of years you spend appreciably less.
Some companies send you tester sets as there are various sorts.I use Bambino Mio,basically a cloth that you fold and put into shaped waterproof knicker things with velco fastening, tucking a liner in too.
I have about 4 different sized sets as they grow.

MrsDoolittle · 15/06/2005 10:23

Well girls, I really don't mean to some across a smug. But why buy disposable nappies when you could use one of these?

Miaou · 15/06/2005 10:23

Do you mean for ds or for a future baby?

If for ds, for now, then I would suggest buying the number that you would use over two days. That way you won't run out.

The best website to look at is The Nappy Lady - here is a link - lots of useful information on there. Also look back through the archives under Nappies and Potty Training - you may find a thread that answers your questions.

In terms of what make to use, there are lots, and it is perhaps a little confusing, but fun to research! I plumped for TotsBots in the end, partly because they are a Scottish company, and partly because they seem to be the most popular.

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:28

MrsD!!! Do your babies look like small (but very cute)) grizzly bears?!

Miaou · 15/06/2005 10:29

Or like the Fairy baby?

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:30

Fairy???

Miaou · 15/06/2005 10:37

You know, on the fairy washing up liquid bottles...

MrsDoolittle · 15/06/2005 10:42

Absolutely moondog. But as you say, very cute!!!

No in actual fact, these are new. I have to wait another 8 months to try these out but I will!!

moondog · 15/06/2005 10:47

Miaou, buy Ecover and avoid supermarkets so don't know.
(Hit me for being a smug cow!)

Miaou · 15/06/2005 10:48

So do I moondog [insert equally smug emoticon here] but haven't you seen the ads on the telly?
