Can anyone recommend their bathroom extractor fan please? Does it extract well? Is it really noisy? Where does it extract to? How much was it? TIA!

Ye gods, they are all the same - you either need a window or a wall one. Wall ones are cheaper. They vent to the outside. You need an electrician to fit one (legally these days you are required to but it makes sense in a bathroom anyway). Screwfix sell lots of types or your electrician will bring one if you tell him too.

Thanks wmmc. Aren't there ceiling ones as well? Do they vent into lofts? How much are they?

You can vent them into lofts but it's probably not a very good idea - do you really want all that humid air going into the rafters and rotting the wooden bits holding your house together?

Is there no external wall? We have six foot thick walls and have had to do some severe jiggery pokery with extendable hoses to vent one of our bathrooms

NB you can literally pick them up in the DIY stores too - they are all pretty much the same. But look for the timing on them - you want one which is not running on for 15 minutes but which is powerful enough to ahem clear the air within 3 minutes.

Also get one with a decent trap cover which is easy to wash. And wash the bloody thing every three months. I have lost count of the really clean bathrooms I've been in with furry extractor fans - no bugger except me seems to realise they have to be cleaned and wear out if you don't do this.

There are external walls in the bathrooom but they are fully-tiled. We are selling the house so I might consider putting in an extractor fan if it was cheap and easy but not if it meant needing a new bathroom!
