Inspired by the fantastic "great big list of products that are cheaper but just as fab versions of their expensive counterparts", here's another money saving thread.

What have you bought that turned out to be absolute bobbins? Come and tell all and help others avoid making the same mistake!

For me:

No7 Protect and Perfect serum - made no discernable difference to my skin.

New Look Hula jeans - just made my muffin top rise several inches.

Birds Eye Seaside Specials frozen fish - boak.

Thandeka · 30/07/2009 19:35

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/07/2009 19:39

Oh - see I love Protect and Perfect AND Hula jeans

BertieBotts · 30/07/2009 19:39

Tesco Value toaster (does not take a standard sized slice of bread, only half toasts it)
Tesco Value vacuum cleaner (they discontinued the bags!)

But not all Tesco Value appliances, the microwave is great

KingRolo · 30/07/2009 20:23

Loads of baby stuff.

Top and tail bowl and this bath seat, both used once.

SausageRocket · 30/07/2009 20:25

Dyson.

moondog · 30/07/2009 20:26

I'd say....

processed products
tiny bits of meatbin polystyrene trays from the supermarket
most cleaning products
cereal [criminal mark up on what is factory floor sweepings-eat porridge or home made muesli]
any kid themed food
flavoured yoghurts [buy 500g of plain from Lidl or somewhere]
vile things like moist toilet wipes
air fresheners

sobloodystupid · 30/07/2009 20:31

electric food warmers for babies, moses baskets, disposable baby wipes (unless on the move)..

moondog · 30/07/2009 20:32

Don't buy too many clothes for kids either, as they only grow out of them fast.

Sagacious · 30/07/2009 20:38

Clarks shoes

(ds's disintergrated within about a month.. sniffy sales assistant said it was normal wear and tear)

SausageRocket · 30/07/2009 20:42

That bloody sangenic nappy wrapper bin. Complete waste of £29.99

KingRolo · 30/07/2009 20:49

top and tail bowl and this bath seat, both used once.

KingRolo · 30/07/2009 20:49

an all terrain car when the only time you will require the front wheel drive is mounting the pavement outside the school gate

reallywoundup · 30/07/2009 21:01

ahh see my 4x4 is muddy- that means its ok

breadmaker, george foreman, senseo coffe maker, various other coffee makers, various other kitchen gadgets- ooh the ice cream maker- that was a cracker- used umm.....never- the bowl wouldn't fit in the freezer

Yurtgirl · 30/07/2009 21:03

My maclaren pushchair - dont know what is was called but it cost £70 at the time - nasty little wheels and no extras

Same price bought a toys r us one - much much better quality all round, wheels better, seat laid flat, better hood and a free cosy toes

Yurtgirl · 30/07/2009 21:04

Food processor with loads of accessories - have only ever used the big bowl and that rarely - I wont keep it when we next move

moondog · 30/07/2009 21:05

YUurt, just get a £10 hand held blender. Does most things.

nobodysfool · 30/07/2009 21:06

Bumbo
icecream maker
popcorn maker
named biscuits (i buy Sainsburys own and nobodys knows the difference when they are in the tin)

aristocat · 30/07/2009 21:10

i had an argos toaster which was rubbish......bloody bread didnt fit in it

got a breville now and it makes perfect toast

Yurtgirl · 30/07/2009 21:12

Moondog - I have got one, that gets used a lot, easy to wash and store

Food processor - pah!

Though I would be tempted by a magimix if it was a bargain - and easier to store and clean than the one I have got........

KingRolo · 30/07/2009 21:12

I like my Bumbo, it's the only thing DD cannot escape from. Bloody expensive for a bit of moulded foam though.

Yurtgirl · 30/07/2009 21:13

I do however have a tesco value toaster which isnt brilliant but does the job

I also have a cheap cookworks kettle - it boils water, nuff said
