I need serious buggy help....can any experts please oblige? I think I have "An impossible Quest?"

I have been looking at the people carrier/minibus problem the wrong way

I don't need 9 adult seats or even 7 adult seats......I can do with 2 cars - my mum has a Vauxhall with 7 seats - but a very small boot

That would be fine if I could fit 2 double buggies in the boot or strap them on the roof

So I need either very light double buggies (so I can lift on to the roof-rack)or very small folded double buggies (that I can fit in the boot) or one of each

What should I be looking at?

At least one should lie back flat, and they need to be suitable for a 6 ft & a 5ft pusher.

An impossible Quest?

Don't you need the pushchair shed for this query?
Anyway, I thought the Macclaren umbrella folding ones (suitable from 3 months) would fit into most boots (2 such buggies at once, I mean).

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 18:28

There's a pushchair topic

I'll have a look

NationalFlight · 23/05/2009 18:50

No no no the pushchair shed is a thread. There's no pushchair topic, there ought to be!!

I'd second the macs

Metatron · 23/05/2009 19:01

Roof box?

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 19:02

I didn't think I'd missed a whole topic

So are they very small or very light?

& which model is it?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 23/05/2009 19:04

I don't think they make roof boxes that big

Plus I am unsure of the logistics of getting boxes onto roofs (iyswim)

Katy, you should be able to fit 2 umbrella folding double buggies in a 7 seater or you could tow a trailer

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 19:54

Trailer has been considered & rejected

Along with a minibus

We are getting a Zafira (which has a small boot & only has 7 seats occasionally - I understand) which should cost less to run. Alongside a 2nd (&3rdif necessary) smaller car for the occasions we have more children

But if I can put the buggies on the roof I can fit the picnic/nappybags in the boot

We are moving 6-12 children remember

Can't you get a lot of stuff under the kids feet in the footwells?

Roof boxes go on roof bars. My pal had a zafira with a roof box on the top for her pushchair.

misdee · 23/05/2009 20:08

maclarens defo

Metatron · 23/05/2009 20:08

roofboxes

nicolamumof3 · 23/05/2009 20:17

maclaren double will go under kids fit in back i've done it several times. double triumph i had but not from birth think goes from 3m.

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 20:19

Sorry which Macclaren one?

How do I lift the roof box onto the roof? Doesn't it just add to the weight I have to lift?

OP posts:
eandh · 23/05/2009 20:21

I had the double mclaren triumph and if I couldnt be bothered to put it in boot (ie shopping in tehre) I used to stick it ion footwell under kids feet iykwim, it doesnt lay completley flat but I did stick dd2 in it when required from birth (tis a bugger to push if you have a big age difference I only had 2.4 years age gap between dd1 and dd2 and it was ok to steer but took some effort!!)

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 20:22

I'm going to need three I think

I guess one might go in the boot, one in the middle row foot well & one on the roof.....maybe?

Maybe 2 would do & one of my existing ones could go in the other car boot

I just won't be able to use my 4 seater except for locally.....I think I have 1 or 2 doubles to sell

OP posts:
eandh · 23/05/2009 20:22

roof box stays on the car permantely you just open it and stick buggy in I think!!

nicolamumof3 · 23/05/2009 20:24

yes thats what i thought too?

agree triumph is hard to push with two chunky monkeys in only reason i had to ditch mine when my ds2 was 2.8yr and ds3 13m couldn't get up the hill to my house anymore lol!

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 20:26

Oh

Why don't you just stick the buggy on the roof bars? (like I do with the boat?)

OP posts:
eandh · 23/05/2009 20:27

i had it in red!!

KatyMac · 23/05/2009 20:30

This is lighter but I guess theri must be an 'issue' with it as no-one mentioned it

It's about 3kgs lighter with is a lot less to lift

OP posts:
KatyMac · 23/05/2009 20:32

& this is smaller??

OP posts:
LionstarBigPants · 23/05/2009 20:35

Have seen the Cosatto Duet Lite Tandem around and they look really compact. The rear seat is suitable from birth and looks like it folds really small. Could be a good option?
Apparently Mothercare do a similar one called the Hoxton, which I think is a bit lighter.

nicolamumof3 · 23/05/2009 20:36

i had a combi we2, didn't have it for long i hated it!!

CarGirl · 23/05/2009 20:39

The side by side graco/mothercare are actually okay, cheapish & cheerful, lightweight, huge basket and recline flat. You can get one in the boot of a zafira too.

nicolamumof3 · 23/05/2009 20:40

maclaren triumph nicer than the 09 imo has has nice liners inc.!
