re: What cool childrens products do they have in America/Europe that we can't get here?

Does anyone know of things they wish they could get here, that only seem to be available in America or Europe?

Maybe things that friends or family send you or go on about, but you just can't get here?

Things like Trumpette socks:

cool socks

Though those are now available in the UK.

I am wondering as it would be great to see if there was a way to get them over here, sell them cheap and possibly make a few quid!

So anything you wish you could buy over here for kids please let me know. I would really appreciate it.

I haven't seen them here but my friend got babygrows for DD which have a zip all the way from the foot to the collar. They are so much easier than poppers, esp for middle of the night nappy changes.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 09:03

That sounds great Chequersmate, you don't happen to have a brand name do you?

chequersmate · 02/05/2009 09:04

I think they are made by Carters - they're one of the big baby shops over there.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 09:09

Thankyou very much, I am looking at their website now!

You can buy those babygros in the supermarkets here (Denmark)!

(supermarket brand names are 'Friends', 'Mads & Mette', 'Little One' and 'Pretty Sille' - am sure there are others but can't think of them now)

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 09:11

Thankyou upsince, will look now!

Just been trying to look for you - but the supermarket brands are quite hard to find online!

CarmenSanDiego · 02/05/2009 09:16

I got a pack of 3 of these from Target for $6 in their sale. Love them! They have a little popper at the top to cover the zip so it doesn't stick into the baby.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 09:18

I have been trying to look too, but like you say the supermarket brands are hard to find.

Thankyou very much Carmen, thats great, I hadn't been able to actually find them online.

DS is waking up so I have to run - so please don't think me rude when there are no replies for a bit, but will be back later - many thanks and any more suggestions gratefully recieved!

Don't live in the UK, so am not entirely sure what you do and don't have - but how about boy's tights for winter?

Also, rain trousers? (Children here always have full-on suits / trouser and jacket combinations for cold / wet weather)

Speaking of cool products - I bumped into this pencil holder and this toybox yesterday (when looking for something else!) for which I desperately trying to think of an excuse to buy for the dc's

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 11:11

Upsincecrapoclock, those are very cool products, many thanks for showing them to me.

Anyone else, anything you'd love to get hold of in the UK, that you can't?

OP posts:
AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 14:21

Anyone else any thoughts?

OP posts:
CarmenSanDiego · 02/05/2009 14:45

Oh, Melissa & Doug toys are really nice. Wooden and very development-oriented. Not sure whether you can get them in the UK but I see them a lot here.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 18:02

Carmensandiego - They look great, many thanks. I will see how available they are here.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 19:27

CarmenSandiego, they are brilliant, thank you so much for telling me about them, exactly the kind of thing I am looking for!

Fantastic toyshops in Germany, hardly a power rangers or star wars in sight.

Schoolbags - they cost an arm and a leg, but are so strong your child can stand on them to reach high shelves (not recommended, but my children do it). With matching pencil cases and gym bags.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 19:51

Nighbynight - can you give me some brand names that I can research?

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 02/05/2009 19:59

is this market research? are you planning to start a business with hard to find products?

not juding- i'd be interested

NorkyButNice · 02/05/2009 20:01

A word of warning on the zip up bodysuits, we had them for DS (he was born in New York) and I zipped his flesh into the zipper more than once [ouch emoticon]

They stayed in the drawer after 3 or 4 outings...actually I have unopened packs if people are willing to pay a premium for them!

NorkyButNice · 02/05/2009 20:04

God that makes me sound like an awful mother.

Just think, middle of the night, exhausted new parent, darkened room - trust me, poppers are safer!

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 20:08

Themysticmasseuse, we are looking at whether its possible/financially feasible, is there any money in it yes. - Its a kind of an idea, making its way to a possibility, so just wondering if such things exist - i.e. hard to find products, that people want, that there is actually a profit in.

Mind you they probably don't exist at all!

Angua - If you can start a business selling "Pottery Barn Kids" furniture, accessories and toys then you will make thousands a year from me alone! Its my all-time favourite USA store.
www.potterybarnkids.com/ Don't know if they do franchises...

Also, someone really should start a UK version of American Girl, my 6 year old DD's favourite USA store! They have the most amazing dolls (so you can buy one that looks like you, and matching clothes for you both, or a historical doll along with books about that girl in a period of key american history), as well as baby dolls and associated accessories.
www.americangirl.com/

Sorry if these are bigger suggestions than you're after, but you did say "anything you wish you could buy here", and these are what I wish for!

thisisyesterday · 02/05/2009 20:10

h&m sell zip-up babygros

TheMysticMasseuse · 02/05/2009 20:12

there's quite a lot of scandinavian products websites in the uk. i personally think german stuff for kids is ace, especially the toys, little shoes hats etc. my sil lives in vienna and we get wonderful stuff from them.

the problem i think you could find is that a lot of this european stuff is quite pricey because buying habits are quite different, here in the uk i find there's more of a primark approach to baby stuff, buy it, use it and chuck'it, whereas in europe things get kept and passed down more than once.

still i wish you luck!

CarGirl · 02/05/2009 20:13

baby nighties are far easier anyway, just pull them up, change nappy pull them back down and fit for months & months.
