re: What cool childrens products do they have in America/Europe that we can't get here?

Does anyone know of things they wish they could get here, that only seem to be available in America or Europe?

Maybe things that friends or family send you or go on about, but you just can't get here?

Things like Trumpette socks:

cool socks

Though those are now available in the UK.

I am wondering as it would be great to see if there was a way to get them over here, sell them cheap and possibly make a few quid!

So anything you wish you could buy over here for kids please let me know. I would really appreciate it.

If we're talking ultimate kids furniture etc in the US, it's got to be The Land Of Nod (sorry, typing on phone so can't link).

I have spent a not so small fortune there...

thisisyesterday · 02/05/2009 20:23

agree cargirl.

and the prob with the zip up ones is yo have to undo the entire thing just to change nappy. which is silly.

chequersmate · 02/05/2009 21:06

Ooh, do they do them in H and M? I don't go in there, can't stand the place, but I might have a look if they've got them there.

DD gets really cold feet if she's not in an all in one so nighties are no good.

Nighbynight · 02/05/2009 21:21

Angua, Scout, MacNeil. if you are seriously thinking of importing from Germany, you need to do a research trip over here though. check out toyshops & stationary shops.

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/05/2009 21:55

Thankyou very much ladies, will do a thorough search on all suggestions in the morning.

Nigbynight. I am currently trying to convince DH that a scouting trip to NewYork is required, hasn't worked so far....

My mind is drawing a blank because it has been ages since we lived in North America or the UK so I have stopped missing things from home and I now consider things from Europe 'normal' but I looked for ages to find something like this: www.babystrollerdemonstrations.com/Cup-Holder/p/BS1063#

AnguaVonUberwald · 03/05/2009 05:42

Thankyou very much Cadmum, will have a look at that too!

UPPA baby strollers and Valco strollers both offer alternatives to Phil and Ted with an add on toddler seat, and nice big air wheels. Also, I love Old Navy clothing, it's dirt cheap, but great quality, from the makers of Gap and Banana Republic.

SamsMama · 03/05/2009 06:36

Props to Old Navy clothing, that's all my family wears! If anyone is looking into it for themselves, I will warn you that the mens/womens clothing seems to have gone down in quality. DH has Old Navy jeans that are a few years old and in great condition, whereas a few pairs he got a couple of months ago seem to be wearing out. Perhaps they're cutting corners due to our oh-so-lovely economy?! The kid's clothing seems to still be top notch though. All of my DS' Old Navy clothes were grown out of before he wore them out.

My son also LIVED in full-zipper Carter's sleepsuits. I'll send you some if you want!

YOU guys have Mini Boden, though, which I completely lurve.

sippee cups with screw on lids that don't leak. (made by playtex)

DorotheaPlenticlew · 03/05/2009 07:25

SOme of the Crayola range is unavailable here -- they do telescoping towers of 96 crayons, for instance. I got one from eBay because my craving for us to have an exhaustive collection of crayon colours in the house was so overpowering! Generally they always have masasive collections with a wider array of colours over there, and they are not available to the UK for some weird reason.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 03/05/2009 09:12

Something like this?

Also Gerber sippy cups.

mrsmaidamess · 03/05/2009 09:18

I second Pottery Barn Kids. I long for them to open a store here, the room accessories are great.

hettie · 03/05/2009 13:18

my all time best thing ever purchased/used for babies was the lille baby eurotote. You can only get it in the US. It's kind of like the phil and teds cocoon, but can fit loads of puschairs (lay flat ones), doubles up as a play blanket, and then as a buggy snuggle when kids are older.
It was the best thing for getting to ds to sleep as you could swing it/rock it to get him off then pop him in moses basket or pushchair.....

SamsMama · 03/05/2009 13:58

Oh yeah, Pottery Barn! My mom bought my DS this entire room set when he was born. He had a poo explosion all over it a few months ago and my bleary-eyed husband was imploring me to throw it away. There I was, five in the morning, scrubbing poo and hissing "We will not throw it away, it is from POTTERY BARN!" Oh, the glamorous life!

Sorrento · 03/05/2009 15:11

I would imagine the pound being so weak against the dollar this would be a bad time to set up in all honesty, I have a few idea's but shall be keeping them to myself I'm afraid, but bear also in mind, Letterbox and Urchin have just gone bust.

SofiaAmes · 03/05/2009 15:16

Oh yes and these.
They are fantastically cheap generic buggy frames that you can use pretty much any infant car seat with.

frasersmummy · 03/05/2009 15:27

weebles.. my ds got a set for his first xmas.. he loved them ..

stupidly thought I would get him more here .. no chance

AnguaVonUberwald · 03/05/2009 18:09

Thankyou so much for all the ideas.

I am afraid becoming a potterybarn franchise is probably outside our resources, but we will look really carefully at all the suggestions, I appreciate it very much.

weebles are def available over here!
we had them as kids, and I have seen them in shops recently

ilovemydogandMrObama · 03/05/2009 20:34

My aunt (in Seattle) send fabulous packages over. We love Kushies toys. They stick together as have magnets, and the case is also a magnet and doubles as a dart board!

Also, Hanna Anderson clothes are great...

Bathsheba · 04/05/2009 22:53

I LOVED these baby shoes with DD2 - My Savinas

My cousin bought me her first pair in Spain (they are spanish) and I ended up having to get her 2 more pairs, and get my dad to track them down when he went on holiday.

They simply DID NOT COME OFF and they were far prettier than any I could find here too.

Certainly there wasn't a UK stockist of them 2 years ago when I bought them for DD2

Bathsheba · 04/05/2009 22:55

Sorry, not the best page to link to - Better Link for My Savinas Baby Shoes

AnguaVonUberwald · 05/05/2009 09:20

Bathsheba, thankyou very much, will look into it!

I like this plate and on the go set from sassy. They have good colours and some of their other stuff is good too.
