Help me sort out my laundry problems (oh soooo dull!)

OK should be shot for such a dull thread BUT....

I very stupidly bought a massive basket for all my clean laundry to go in. I am rubbish at ironing, do bits as I need them then when it really starts to piss me off I send it all off to the ironing service! As a result I have a massive pile of clean laundry and can never find anything. Part of the prob is that dh has about 4000 t shirts which he never wears, so my first job is to get rid of those I think.

What I think i need is something that will separate my stuff, dh's and dd's. It lives in the spare room so has to be presentable and reasonably big as I know that it will continue to pile up as I just don't do ironing except in cases of emergency.

I know you lot will be able to sort me out!

there wouldn't be room in the cupboard for my dps shirts if they were all ironed.

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 15:55

The stupid thing is we have acres of wardrobe space and I could easily put it all away but just can't

OP posts:
misdee · 28/04/2005 15:56

its not that you cant, its that you just cant be bothered

noddyholder · 28/04/2005 15:56

get someone in to do it and then put it away

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 15:57

quite

I work 4 days a week, can't be arsed to spend my spare time doing that sort of stuff.

I need to get my cleaner doing more I think

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 15:57

what I don't get is why you are bothering ironing anything ???

If your dh needs shirts, he can do them, or send them off.

I got the iron out at the weekend, for the first time in 6 months. We were going to a wedding so I ironed my girls little dresses. I didn't iron dh's shirt though, I couldn't be

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 16:15

crunchie I don't have a drying machine (waiting for sodding carpenter to come and alter cupboard so it can fit in) so all my washing is crispy!

OP posts:
misdee · 28/04/2005 16:16

nothing wrong with crispey clothes. i dont iron, just am lazy at putting clothes away.

mears · 28/04/2005 16:19

I have solved this issue for us just last week. There are 6 of us in this household so that is a lot of wshing. I washed, dried and ironed everything 2 weeks ago. Every night I put on the washing machine. Next day it is hung out or tumble dried. That evening it is ironed and put away. Because we have been doing it every day there is no pile up of clothes at all. It has been really liberating. Dh and I do it between us depending who sees it first

You need to tackle the pile first, put it away then keep on top of it.

misdee · 28/04/2005 16:20

i do that. then cant be bothered after the pile is gone. oops. havent done any laundry fir 3 days, theres loads waiting at home. will be doing laundry tonight.

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 16:21

Yes Mears, but my cleaner only comes twice a week so no good

I think I need a housekeeper

OP posts:
mears · 28/04/2005 16:22

Sorry, thick here. Why can't you do it?

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 16:23

Because I am lazy

OP posts:
mears · 28/04/2005 16:23

Fair enough

misdee · 28/04/2005 16:23

likei said below, she just doesnt want to lol. dont blame CD, its on of the most boring jobs there are.

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 16:25

see lower down thread

I work and when I get home I spend time with dd til 8 or 83o, then feed dog, then cook food, then sit down have a drink, then dinner, then like to hang out with dh, by then it's bedtime.

OP posts:
misdee · 28/04/2005 16:26

why am\i sitting here discussing laundry? it really is the highlight of my evenings.

posyhairdresser · 28/04/2005 16:28

Put it away clean but unironed then iron before you wear?
That would solve the problem

mears · 28/04/2005 16:28

CD - you're still lazy I work full-time, so does DH. We have 4 needy kids and can still do it (and without a cleaner)

CountessDracula · 28/04/2005 16:29

You are mad then. Don't you like to chill in the evenings?

OP posts:
mears · 28/04/2005 16:29

Takes a couple of minutes to load a mchine and switch it on. you can have it ironed in less than 30 mins when you are on top of it all.

Can you tell I am delighted with my new found routine
