Need a pushchair that goes well over rough ground

DD is 18 months and 15kg (heavy). Our Pliko Pramette is utterly hopeless over anything other than tarmac and we want rid.

Suggestions for a replacement that will navigate rough paths through heath and woodland would be gratefully received.

Hmm, Mountain Buggy uncertain future (no repairs or parts potentially) is a turn off. I think we had an Urban Detour before. It was great apart from the punctures.

The used prices also seem very high. £276 for a 2-year-old one

Bonkers when they cost £310 new.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 01/03/2009 00:29

they are £400 new. And that is an Elite model, with more surpension(sp?) so costs more new

mamamea · 01/03/2009 00:33

cheapest I found was £309

The baroque ones are discontinued, thats why they are cheaper. Normally they are £400

mamamea · 01/03/2009 00:40

I might buy it if I were confident they would be around in 3 years time....

SparklyGothKat · 01/03/2009 00:41

from what i have worked out, its not MB that are having problems but their suppliers.

PrammyMammy · 01/03/2009 00:44

Quinny Speedi is great for rough paths and farm roads. You can pick them up pretty cheap 2nd hand these days too. I got mines in 2007 and it is still like new.

mamamea · 01/03/2009 00:45

Not so.

yes just found this myself Its looking good that someone will buy the company though.

I have a three wheeler from e-bay. The seller was Little Devils direct and I don't know if it's actually a brand name (it is just printed with a LDD logo). Have compared it to a friend's urban detour and they are identical except the UD has a drink holder for the child and mine has a drink holder at the back for an adult (which DP used for a pint the first time we took DS out for a walk by the river - which happened to pass a very picturesque pub ).

Would definitely reccomend it but I think the seller doesn't always have the same range so it could be complicated finding the same one.

mamamea · 01/03/2009 03:29

I'm pretty sure my Urban Detour had the pint holder. Very handy as I recall.

Some people are selling the Terrain in red

www.whwatts.co.uk/pushchairs-8/mountain-buggy-terrain-single-colours-6862.htm

but it's not listed on the Mountain Buggy website. Is it an old model?

OP posts:
AnnasBananas · 01/03/2009 20:48

I have P&T Sport and Jane Powertrack 360 (the new version is the Slalom)

The Jane is the winner for me. Easier and lighter to push goes over any terrain and I also run with it.

The P&T comes into its own as a double and for it's adaptability. But I don't rate it at all as a single. Unbeatable as a double.

Try and get a Slalom second hand or an older Powertrack 360, they would be quite cheap by now, I imagine.

Babyjogger Performance Single.... 20 inch wheels... say no more...

babyjogger.com/performancesingle.htm

I've used it to run races and for very offroad trails in the Lake District and Peak District.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/03/2009 08:42

The terrain is on the MB website.

mamamea · 02/03/2009 19:56

Not in red it's not. They've sold a 'Terrain' model for years, but the colours and stuff change each year.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 02/03/2009 20:12

Ah yes, I didn't realise you meant that just the colour wasn't there.

hoxtonchick · 02/03/2009 20:34

at mountain buggy going into receivership. the urban was the best single thing i ever bought for either of my children.

Piffy · 02/03/2009 20:36

Just to throw another idea in, I have a Micralite Fastfold, I use it all the time for walking DC and dogs through woods, fields etc. You can get an all terrain front set of wheels as an extra but usually I just tip it up a bit on very rough ground, to use just the rear pneumatic wheels, you can fix the front wheels. The other benefit it is sooooo light that if when baby is older you want to hold her hand whilst she walks you can either drag it behind you one handed or sling it over your shoulder. Honestly, it is that light it weighs less than my day sack. I can lift it over stiles by myself. One handed. No I am not a weight lifter, this is for real!

Micralite have a new buggy out called the Toro, I haven't tried that one but it doesn't fold down as small. So there are probably loads of old model Fastfolds available on ebay. I got mine for £90 delivered about 3 years ago and haven't had a single puncture, using it every day. Have now got rid of all my other buggies as this one is just so convenient I found I wasn't using them at all!

kalo12 · 02/03/2009 20:39

mountain buggy urban is brill for everything, i love it so much

horseymum · 03/03/2009 21:19

hi, i have a red castle 3 wheeler with a fixed wheel which is fantastc - fixed wheel is the true 4x4! for off roading. i have never had any problems in shops, although it is quite wide at the back. not sure if you can still get the model i have but it is fab - it is on child no 4 (not all mine!) and will still be going strong for years to coem i think.

We have a an old Quinny freestyle three wheeler for serious off roading, and a Phil & Teds for general tarmac and going into town stuff. I found the P&T a real boneshaker over really rough ground and would certainly not want to be sitting in it myself being rocked about. The Quinny Freestyle however has suspension and big fat tyres and is a much more luxurious ride. Really easy to push too. We got ours from a nearly new nursey equipment shop.

mistlethrush · 04/03/2009 09:16

We had MB urban and it went everywhere - over anything, through mud up to its axles, foot high thick grass, sand etc. So glad I got the urban - most of the time you don't need to fix the front wheel and then its a lot easier to steer than a fixed wheel - and will do the urban stuff as well.
