I see so many of these about but recently met someone who said hers started falling apart shortly after purchase.

Wondering if there are are any P&T owners out there who could give me some feedback?

agree also that the cocoon isn't vital

MegBusset · 15/02/2009 16:34

So you don't think it's a major problem that the rear seat doesn't recline on the E3?

snooks · 15/02/2009 17:18

Meg I wouldn't say that the non-reclining rear seat on the e3 is a major problem, but without a doubt it would be better if it did recline.... maybe I'm just so used to the limitations on mine because I've had it for so long. dd3 is now 10 months - just - and almost always falls asleep upright in the back on the way back from preschool drop-off at 9am-ish, she will sleep in it with no problems for 45mins to 2 hours, depending on what mood she is in! She doesn't tip her head forward or anything.

As a few posters have implied (and I agree) there are always compromises and limitations with doubles it seems. I do love mine to bits though.

blithedance · 15/02/2009 17:43

I must have had a different E3 to some of the posters. I've had it in daily use for 3 years and it's been the best baby purchase ever. It's now in its last days as a single taking my 3yo on the school run before it goes on ebay.

I did not find it hard to fold, or push, or put in the car boot. (OK in an estate car anything is easy to put in the boot!). My kids did not put their fingers in the wheels. It has been fine in all but the tiniest shops and I have loaded the shopping tray to capacity. Best place for a bag is the handlebars- long strap messenger or some bag on clips. Or wear a rucksack yourself.

The rear seat reclining is a bit of a refinement. There was a month or so when DS2 did tend to doze off and flop over, but I wouldn't say he came to any lasting harm.

After very heavy use the rear axles need replacing (a few £ from Out and About) and I've made a few repairs to the fabric on my sewing machine. But it's essentially as good as the day we bought it.

Whenever I see someone struggling in a shop with a side by side double or enormous Graco tandem I feel very grateful to the friends who recommended the P&T. The best thing is it's so flexible, when you're out and about you have a double, single and carrycot always with you.

Just read an earlier posting. My E3 became awful to steer, and I phoned up the distributor thinking I needed some kind of new bearings. They suggested oiling the front swivel (by taking off the front wheel) - a drop of bike oil and it worked perfectly.

oops new computer is playing up

LynetteScavo · 15/02/2009 17:50

I have an E3 and think it's fab. I'm now DS2 doen't want to ride in in anymore.

Well, he is nearly 6.

kiddiz · 15/02/2009 18:54

I've never owned one but I noticed in one of your posts that you were wanting to use it on buses. Well a couple caused absolute chaos with one on a bus I was on last week. It was so big and cumbersome it wouldn't fit in the area for pushchairs or turn round. Once they had got it on the bus it completely blocked the aisle and no one could get on or off!! Everytime the bus stopped the dad had to take it off the bus so people could get on and off and then get back on again. I think it was beginning to try the patience of the driver and the other passengers by the time they got off!!!!

kiddiz · 15/02/2009 18:55

I should add it looked very new so it could be that they just hadn't got the hang of 'driving' it.

sweetkitty · 15/02/2009 18:58

I have a sport and think it is fab

Going from a single to a double, youa re always going to find a double bigger and cumbersome, it's a bit of a cuture shock at first but for a double you cannot beat a P&T, I have had a side by side and a tandem and the P&T beats them hands down.

It's ideal for me as I go from single to double quite a lot

DD3 is 3 now so won't be in it much longer, I only use it as a double now for long days out.

blithedance · 15/02/2009 19:01

Yes but imagine if the bus people had had one of these

A good thing about a 3 wheeler is that you can tuck the narrow front into corners. If I was you I'd check out your buses for how much space they have.

Ronaldinhio · 15/02/2009 19:22

I bought one as my two are very close, dd1 2 and dd2 9 mths, together.
I've honestly been really disappointed by it. I'm sorry I know it goes against the flow but I find it heavy clumsy and a complete back/ball ache
I have a McClaren Techno that I use with a sling for the wee one...seems better thqan the p&t option to me

kiddiz · 16/02/2009 16:05

No they didn't. The toddler was in a seat underneath and behind the seat the baby was in not side by side. It was just so long and awkward to turn. Like I said it looked very new so the Dad maybe should have had "L" plates!!!
I don't think the one in the pic would have gone on the bus at all!!!

elmoandella · 16/02/2009 16:22

i dont like them. seats are too small for tall dc. head rests on bar. dont like one being "under" other. and dislike having to take doubles seat off to put in car. heard loads of people complaining about wheel problems and getting new front wheels or axles rusting

HeinzSight · 18/02/2009 22:16

I was going to start a similar thread, I'll read through this one, but also wanted to bump

BumblBeee · 20/02/2009 21:53

Thanks everyone, what really good useful comments.

I bought the garish blue one from the Kiddicare sale now despite my concerns that DD is too tall for the front seat. The only delivered half of it so far though...

I notice one poster mentioned the head bar problem, and I think I will find this a bit awkward also but I think it is worth a try anyway.

I bought an e3 three years ago. It's done very well and is very robust. I find pushchairs a pita but the P&T's is very practical.

I mostly slinged my babies when babies, but even when slinging the P&T was better than my maclaren as I could push it more easily with a babe on my front, and the second seat made it a fantastic shopping trolley .

We have teeny but modern buses and you can get two three wheelers and a maclaren-type on them if you try hard enough.
