Sandpit from Tchibo

SoupDragon · 06/04/2005 09:29

I got sent a Tchibo catalogue through the post last week and in it they have a fantastic sandpit where the lid folds bak to form 2 benches. Having looked via Google, it's a bargain.

Why can't I find it on their website?? I much prefer ordering online as I hate phoning up

Soupy: didn't see choccychic's high water table comment, so I can see why you suggested pond liner. But that doesn't change the fact that you're still wrong.

You are now in detention.

Unless choccy you actually live on water, and the water table is above your lawn !!!!!! Then you would still be best off letting water drain away from the sand, IMO.

Soupy: Ref your garden. I only help nice people. Sorry.

Where do you live ?

You can CAT me and e-mail digi photos, and describe the sort of thing you might be seeking to achieve, and I can comment, ITH...

Putting down on paper the users of the garden, what they enjoy, what things you might want to include (kitchen herbs / wildlife / patio / BBW / croquet / helicopter landing pad / sensory area for SN / raised beds for older dragons etc. etc. etc.) is a good exercise in itself - you have to be ruthless in finding what you can realistically do in the given space at a given price, whilst still trying to be clever and figure out how to incorporate diverse needs (example: comosting / messy corner alongside tool storage / safe space for kids play etc. etc.)

Not wrong so nyanyanya. You'd probably need to waterproof the lid but it's no different from having a plastic sandpit that has no drainage holes in the bottom.

Our garden is about 200 feet long and 60 wide and DH insists I can't do anything that would impede his (and DSs) football, cricket and golf playing.

Anyway, have to go and try to create a level area at the end of my garden for my brand new sandpit. I may be gone some time...

I've spent a long time on it, Soupy, and I've come up with a great design...

Can you imagine an area of lovely lawn, about 200 ft long by say, 60ft wide ?

There, I've just fulfilled the brief from all the human members of the family.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2005 11:49

A lovely lawn, undulating gently up to the large beech tree at the end... ah yes. I can see it now. Literally see it now as it happens. Except for the "lovely lawn" bit. Technically it's lawn I guess although it does consist almost entirely of moss in the latter half of the garden

Speak to Coronet Turf - incredibly high quality product. Also do wildflower turf !!!!

SoupDragon · 07/04/2005 21:23

Wow! They even do gypsy caravan turf

I love this thread

hub2dee · 07/04/2005 21:37

Soupy behave.

I saw that garden in the flesh at Chelsea. V. pretty.... but I thought there could have been even more wildflowers in there...

SoupDragon · 08/04/2005 15:30

I think DH would have a fit if I ordered wildflower turf to returf our garden. It would ruin his golf practice.

Soupy - do you know if you're being hit by the sprinkler ban yet? According to the local paper it starts 22 April...

Marina · 08/04/2005 15:35

Oh, I wish I hadn't seen this thread, I apportion equal blame to Soupy and Pamina. I want one of those sandpits but dh will lynch me if I get it.
I also have a colleague threatening to burgle me for my prized Johnny Jump bouncing inflatable horse...anyone know if he's still available, I'm not parting with mine.
I don't get a catalogue by post yet despite asking for one - did I not spend enough?

hub2dee · 08/04/2005 16:43

My prediction is that all these sandpits with funny hinge mechanisms and fold out benches will fall to bits v. quickly. They call me Nostradamus.

Soupy: re - keeping the boys happy but incorporating secret spaces etc. One common, successful method is to create a gentle sweeping raised bank, somewhat hummock like (but with more class), rising gently off the lawn similar to the shape of the gentle rise from base of dragon tail to tip of fire-breathing shnoz.

Clad this in wildflower turf and you will (a) contain ball games (b) divide up the space (c) have romantic wild flowery look beyond manicured lawn and (d) insert valid point here.

Behind it you could drop the level a bit (so hidden from house), but provide raised area for jumping-on-brethren games, and the space beyond could be for all the garish-coloured kiddy stuff / 15 forts etc.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2005 18:15

No idea, Ladymuck! I've not heard about a sprinkler ban at all.

hub2dee The boys will have to make do with a sand pit and small plastic climbing frame behind a hedge for now.

We have a 6' x 6' x 6' underground air raid shelter we plan to excavate this year. Maybe we should cut the solid concrete roof off and fill it with sand instead...

SoupDragon · 08/04/2005 18:16

Bur Marina, it's a bargain!

OP posts:
frogs · 08/04/2005 18:19

The inflatable horse is also available from Jako-o which deliver to UK although based in Germany. Prices are in Euros, not £!

hub2dee · 08/04/2005 18:29

Maybe you should keep it incase all goes pear shaped / WMDs start dropping. Sounds like there's space for your family, and me (plus dw and beanette) - is that OK ?

Marina · 08/04/2005 19:40

Frogs, thank you. My colleague really will be so chuffed!

SoupDragon · 08/04/2005 22:24

It only appears to have bunkbed frames for 2 I'm afraid H2D. I say "appears to" because I had to stick my digital camera though a drainpipe sized hole in the roof to find out what was under the mysterious concrete slab in our garden.

bambi06 · 08/04/2005 22:30

hey soupdragon you`ve got a ready made den for your kids you lucky thing and what might be even better is either a padlock on(to lock them in) or access toa computer for totally unitterrupted MN usage..

SoupDragon · 08/04/2005 22:31

All depends what we find when we excavate the entrance (currently buried).

OP posts:
hub2dee · 08/04/2005 22:51

OK. When the nasties start falling, I'm on top, dw's on bottom, beanette's in a sling... and all the little SoupDragons will have to jolly well wait outside.

SoupDragon · 10/04/2005 10:22

Charming! Good job you don't know where I live then
