Kiddy Infinity Pro top-rated Stage 1 car seat by Which? Anyone got one and do you recommend it?

The Kiddy Infinity Pro is Which's top-rated Stage 1 car seat (for 9mth-4yrs). It is German I think. It seems to have an 'impact cushion' which makes it safer than a 5-pt harness in a crash.

Is it easy to use?

Does anyone have one? Would you recommend it?

I bought the Kiddy Infinty Pro about 2 weeks.
DD is totally comfortable and secure in it and she is a slim 12mth old.

She has no trouble sleeping in it even without being reclined.
She has no trouble with restricted movement and happily uses the cushion as a shelf for her toys.
The strap on the impact cushion is great for attaching toys too.

I tried some Rear facing but found them too big for my car, so bought the Kiddy infinity pro as it seems to be the safest Forward facing seat.

I've been watching this thread with interest. I need a seat for my 12 month old and the kiddy ticks the boxes for me. It's great to see so many of you are pleased with it. I would need to store it in the house and put in the relevant car (husband's, sister's or friends as required).

However, I've also been looking at the Jane Montecarlo Plus with Xtend.

Any opinions anyone?

CarGirl · 19/08/2009 23:25

well my dd has not complained about the impact cushion on the car seat at all despite not having had one until she was 4!

earplugs · 19/08/2009 23:42

I'm also interested in the 9 month to 12 year one but was wondering if you still use the impact cushion once the child is approx 4 or stage 3? We're already using a stage 2 seat but probably only for another 6 months so really need it for stage 3.

If you don't use the impact cushion for stage 3, is it just the same as a normal booster using the 3 point seat belt?

CarGirl · 19/08/2009 23:57

earplugs, once they are 18kgs you have to stop using the impact cushion.

I don't know about the Kiddy Infinity Pro one but the BMW/Porshe one I have is isofix rather than just using the seat belt, I think the britax kidfix is like that too.

stress247 · 18/12/2009 14:55

I'm looking at different car seats for my daughter who's coming up for stage 1.

Which has Best Buy rated the Kiddy Infinity, but not the Comfort, even though it's based on the Infinity but with more features.

Does anyone know why it's not as highly rated, as Which aren't clear on this?

Thanks!

Carpediem2007 · 06/03/2010 09:55

So is the BMW one with isfix fixing and the impact cushion?
i have a 2 1/2 child constantly undoing his buckle which makes our isfox priorifix car unsafe, despite all good reviews
I don't have a BMW but may want their car seat. Is it group 1-2-3 or just 1-2?

MumofTwo123 · 26/03/2010 12:18

Hi, I have just posted my experience of these seats on the comfort pro page, so have a look if you are interested!

I have read some of the concerns that some have got and thought I'd give you my opinions. Comfort-wise it is well padded and DS's have no problems with going to sleep as the head support is brilliant. The bar that is used instead of a normal harness is brilliant! You don't realise how restricting they are...I look at children in 5 point harness's and can't help feeling sorry for them (as stupid as it sounds!) because my boys have so much freedom to move and see around them.
Safety-wise I was worried that my 13month old would wiggle out, but he hasn't. I was also concerned about them pushing the bar away or undoing the seat belt, but they can't reach the buckle and the belly bar is secured in place by the seat belt.
If you have reservations about the seat I would recommend that you just try it. I wasn't sure but gave it a chance and love it now!
Check out www.baby2k.com/sBB.cfm?brand=Kiddy&name=Infinity_Pro&productColour=Blue,Red,Black&stage=3 they are really helpful and know their stuff about these seats. They can ship out to you aswell and have them in stock!
Hope this helps :0)

Hi

You can see a list of UK stockists if you go onto www.kiddy.uk.com and click on the top right button for Nearest Stockists. John Lewis stock the Comfort Pro and the Guardian Pro both group 1,2,3s and I know that it is not discounted anywhere in the UK so what you pay in one shop is going to be the same as in another anywhere. It won't be any cheaper ordering direct from Germany anyway as you will pay the same UK RRP and in fact the carriage costs wil be more. In fact I am certain they will not sell direct to you from Germany. There are over 100 UK stores now selling Kiddy over here.

The impact shield is safer overall than the 5 point harness in Group 1 and Group 1,2,3 seats. The Rear Facing seats are only safer in front crashes which are required by European law. Most impacts, bumps and scrapes (about 70%) are from the side with mums driving and so the Kiddy Infinity Pro and Kiddy Guardian Pro has been proven to be the safest design in side impact protection in major international tests including crash tests which are not carried out by magazine tests. 'Which' did compare these two Kiddy seats in 2009 and this year with all other major european brands, and in Group 1 and group 1,2,3 Kiddy came out top. The new kiddy Energy Pro (group 1) has also shown similar results in major tests in Europe not yet published over here.

As for fitting, the impact shield should not be pushed tight against the child. It should 'nestle' gently and comfoirtably against the tummy and you use the adult seatbelt to secure it in position. It has special slits to keep it in place. Kiddy puts safety first, then comfort of the child and then ease of use for mums and dads - and all their car seats live up to their very high standards of quality.

It is a different system to the 5 point harness but what you get in return is beter safety, a child that has more freedom in the upper body and a car seat that is very easy to fit correctly without hurting your back!

Go for it. They are so practical and so easy to use, you won't ever want a heavy car seat again!

Hi!

we've recently bought this car seat (Kiddi Infinity Pro) for our little boy, who's almost 11 months and big for is age (he was already over 10kg at his 7 month check up, not sure how much he weighs now) and are having loads of problems with it.

He seems to be able to push himself down and so slides down out of it, getting suck at about neck height with his arms sticking in the air. I've had to stop and re-adjust him a couple of times when out and about, and have now taken to sitting in the back while my DH drives and hold him in place with my hand underneath the cushion. It really, really doesn't seem very safe at all.

I can't see that anyone else is having this problem, so can anyone think of anything we're doing wrong? Or are any of you having a problem? Want to get to the bottom of it before forking out for another car seat. While I'm writing this, I've had a thought. We have the booster cushion in place (in it's folded up state), so wonder if he's able to slip himself off of this and down and out. Do the rest of you use this booster cushion?

catmadmum · 18/12/2010 23:12

Hi IzzyE,

I've just seen your message - we've had this seat since about September and it was fine at first but then about 6 weeks ago my husband was out in the car and my now 15 month old daughter practically fell out of this seat. She's a fiesty madam and managed to push the bar thing out and fell on the floor of the car while DH was driving. He was fuming as you can imagine. We checked the instructions again and I'm not sure he'd put the seat belt across the bar twice. Now I know we're following the instuctions properly and last week I was travelling from London to Birmingham with my 15 month old and 3 year old and my mum. My DD did exactly what you describe and slid down in her seat with her arms stuck up. I use the booster seat still as she's not quite 15 months and she's a little girl, not massive. I don't know what to do. I am probably going to put it down to a bad decision and not risk using it again. DD hates it now anyway and refuses to go in the seat. The trip back from birmingham involved my DS going in the Kiddy Infinity Pro and he's too big for it as we couldn't get DD in the kiddy seat. Nightmare!! I loved the idea of the seat but what am I doing wrong?

ixxy · 10/01/2011 14:23

Hi there! Just seen this post as we're looking to buy another Kiddy car seat again. We got the Kiddy Infinity when it first came out on the UK, but now looking to get another one for hubby's car as I'm going to go on mat leave again and hubby will be taking DD to nursery, and I'll pick her up in afternoon.

In all the 2 years, we've had the Kiddy Infinity Pro, we've only seen DD successfully slide out once and that was when she was strapped in by hubby. And I think that the problem was because hubby isn't as thorough when it comes to checking the seat belt to make sure that it's tight. You need to make sure that the seat belt's fed through really tight with no slack, and that it's not folded in any way. We've had no problems since the incident as hubby who used to worry about impact cushion being uncomfortable on DD now realises the danger of not having the impact cushion pushed snug, and seat belt fed through with no slack at all.

After too much of research we went and bought one in john lewis a kiddy guardian pro 9 months to 12 years or 9 kilos to 36 kilos
there is no discounts or special offers anywhere for these seats ..all 219 pounds everywhere
our baby loved it
but we realised some internet stores sell it with a cooler/heater for the seat free(costs 19.90 to buy) so we sent the seat back and will reorder online

its the best of what i could manage on john lewis , so easy to install the baby and weel made as much as i see

i m just not sure...
our baby is almost 8 months old and about 10.5 kilos..thank god very healthy .

the kiddy seat says 9 months to 12 years or 9 kilos to 36 kilos... is that a ''whichever comes first''?
after having tried this , our little Ryan looks like a little king banging the table there and we wouldnt want a 3 or 5 point seat belt

as for the adjustements as it grows... piece of cake and yes, i m sure it should fit a 10-12 year old one no problem.. top class and not the most expensive on john lewis anyway

SkiBumMum · 20/02/2011 16:17

We've had it for a year now. DD loves the seat, the "table" etc.

You need to push the cushion in tight and take off their coats first to ensure a good fit. If cushion is tight enough and they are big enough, they shouldn't be able to get out!

I'd highly recommend esp if you want to move from car to car etc.

Olivers Babycare in Winchester sells them online and their service is fantastic.

SkiBumMum · 20/02/2011 16:22

Ps. We have the one that goes to 4yo (ish). I couldn't get my head round a) an almost teenager consenting to sit in a car seat and b) more importantly something being able to protect a baby and a practically grown child. Plus although the covers wash, can you imagine 10 years of squashed raisins, suncream etc!

Pluto · 20/02/2011 16:37

DS has the one that goes to age 4 since he was 9 months. It's been fantastic: light and easy to move from car to car and really robust quality. He's now large and heavy enough (18kg) to do without the impact cushion and he looks really comfy and most importantly safe. The chair cleans up really well and we've never had any sliding down issues. The other good aspect of it is that the side impact cushions means it's impossible for him to reach the back door knobs or seatbelt clasps, so there's no chance of him undoing it himself.

Blissbird · 01/03/2011 22:51

I bought the Kiddy Comfort last week and am delighted with it. My very fussy 2.5 yr old is very happy with the impact cushion which surprised me. We have a BMW and the seat belt is long enough thankfully as its not something I thought about before I bought it.
I didn't find it expensive as I do not think you can put a price on your child's safety and comfort.
Also there is a seller on eBay offering Kiddy Aqua Draw Toys.

geeman · 01/08/2011 19:47

Whatever you do, DONT buy from www.mykiddy.de as the company has filed for insolvency but is still open for trade online (bizzare)... i spent £100 on a kiddy car seat, just to be sent post from insolvency lawyers in germany stating that the compsny's filed for insolvency. I sent an email to the company and they told me they will not be processing my order and "Please contact if possible to have the institution through which you paid your bill or make your claims before the competent insolvency claim." (google translation of their german reply).
Lost a 100 their for no gud reason.... didnt pay through the credit card either so cant claim anything..... gutted Angry
