I love love love Gymboree stuff - especially for my older daughter (3). We don't have stores in the UK but you can find some stuff in TKMaxx, or I buy on eBay.

Remotew · 11/01/2009 00:35

I would look at your local indendent posh shop for the special birthday outfit. It will cost you a bit say £50-100 for a tiny dress. Your little DD won't know anything about it etc but if it's so important to you then do it.

VinegarTits · 11/01/2009 00:43

Eh? where do you live? outer mongolia?

How can you struggle to buy outfits for a girl when there are so many high street shops to choose from:

Mothercare
Gap
Next
M&S
George
Tesco

Have i missed something?

Sixer · 11/01/2009 00:45

Charity shops and ebay.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 11/01/2009 00:46

Monsoon have a great sale on

Or dare I suggest [whispers] Boden?

what sort of thing are you looking for?

seeker · 11/01/2009 00:49

£50-£100 for a dress for a 1 year old? Words fail me yet again.

ThornyRose · 11/01/2009 00:49

I agree with the OP and struggle to buy nice clothes for dd who is 14 months.

Tesco and Asda are ok for everyday wear but nothing special IMO. Hate next. M&S do nice things but dont have a big range. Now and then I can find someting nice in mothercare, but mostly fail.

Kelix · 11/01/2009 00:51

Will try TK Max tomorrow faeriemoo. Never thought of that. Thanks

Also there is a 'posh' baby shop near by that I havnt tried for a while, so will try there abouteve.

VinegarTits - (cool name BTW ) Have been to mothercare today without any luck. Usually shop in Next but not overly keen on their new stuff. She has got a couple of things from M&S and George and Ill have a look in Tesco when I can

Thanks for all the ideas. Maybe Im just too fussy If anyone has any links with ideas that would be great

seeker · 11/01/2009 00:51

What exactly do you mean by struggle?

Kelix · 11/01/2009 00:56

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench - Never thought of Monsoon and sale sounds good Also never shopped at Boden (but may have a little look)

Sixer - have looked on e-bay. Some nice stuff but not in her size

ThornyRose - agree with you 100% on Tesco and Asda, have picked up some lovley stuff from both in the past but nothing spectacular.

Seeker - yeah its a lot of money, I agree but relatives like to buy her presents and often put money together to get her something extra nice Plus with her birthday being so close to xmas they are struggling to think of things to buy for her. Had to ban toys as we only have a tiny house and cant move for them!!

OP posts:
ThornyRose · 11/01/2009 00:56

Definitions of struggle:

make a strenuous or labored effort
an energetic attempt to achieve something

Kelix · 11/01/2009 00:57

Seeker - Struggle not financially (altho things are a little tight ATM) just cant seem to find an outfit that makes me think 'wow thats really nice, I have to buy it'

OP posts:
Kelix · 11/01/2009 00:58

ThornyRose - Thanks for definition
Maybe struggle is a bit harsh, altho shopping in the sales is quite energetic

TBH I hate TX Max I feel like I'm in a jumble sale. However my local one is 60 miles away and whenever I travel 60 miles I'd rather go to a proper shop.

BibiThree · 11/01/2009 00:59

H&M have some lovely things at the moment.

seeker · 11/01/2009 01:01

Words fail me. Yet again.

ThornyRose · 11/01/2009 01:01

Kelix - you dont have to justify what words you choose you to use in your OP, how much money you wish to spend or where you like to shop.

Just ignore em or post sarcastic replies!

Quattrocento · 11/01/2009 01:03

I'm having difficulty grasping how this can be a titanic struggle tbh. My problem was finding too many outfits which were gorgeous.

Well for a one-year old:

Monsoon
Baby gap and Next (not special but lots of practical stuff)
Boden and La Redoute (also not special)
The White company do some baby stuff
Local independents for real wow outfits
Some designer babywear shops nice

Never tried supermarkets and cannot stand M&S or Mothercare.

ThornyRose · 11/01/2009 01:04

Oh back off people FFS - OP just wants the names of some shops or websites not an argument over which words she chooses to use

Kelix · 11/01/2009 06:41

Thanks ThornyRose

Sometimes MN can be so petty!

Quattrocento - who said anything about a 'titanic struggle'?! I was simply tring to get some ideas of places to look as I couldnt find an outfit for my DD first birthday. Im sorry if this seems so unbelievable to you but it is possible (even with all the wonderful places you speak of) to NOT FIND SOMETHING you particually like.

Seeker - words seem to failing you quite a lot these days - maybe a doctors appointment just to be on the safe side

Genuine thanks to anyone that posted something helpful Got a few more ideas to try and hopefully will find what Im looking for. Fingers crossed.

Those of you that think Im mad and that there are loads of lovley girls clothes out there, add a link to something you like?

For that age group Matalan do some lovely little cord pinafore dresses and pinafore dress sets. And I've picked up some really nice knitted dresses in Asda. For "posh" stuff I've tended to buy on eBay -- you can pick up hardly-worn designer stuff for babies very cheaply. The most recent bought new "posh" outfit for DD was this from Emile et Rose, which MIL bought from a local independent shop because she wanted to treat the DCs to new outfits.

Kelix · 11/01/2009 06:48

PortAndLemon - I love the hat!

www.uttamkids.com? Although haven't checked if they do 1 year olds clothes, they are nice and pretty eclectic.

choosyfloosy · 11/01/2009 07:45

I love love love Zara Kids for my son - not sure if it's generally considered any good for girls, or for 1year olds but when I have passed by the girls' stuff I have certainly thought 'wish I had a girl' which is usually a good sign
