mummymaggie · 05/12/2008 22:16

Hi all,

First time doing this but I need some help.

I am changing my beautiful Stokke Pram for a double pram as I am expecting my second in Feb. I have been researching on the net the huge variety of double prams that there are and I am a debating between the Pear and the Mutsy duo. Anyone have any comments on either?

Would love to hear from people that have had either... My only comment so far is that the Pear looks a little squashed but on the other hand I have heard that you can't recline both Mutsy seats... Any oppinions?

I did think of the P&T but just cant get over the fact that the little one just sits sooo low.

please please some advice would be good!
cheers

Neither, both are horrendously heavy to push and lift.

Take a look at Out 'n' About Double Nipper 360, v light and manageable.

ELMOchristmascountdown · 05/12/2008 22:43

and also check out jane powertwin and twin two. and mb double.

then come back

are you after it for designer looks

are you going to be at shops alot on your own with both dc?

will you be taking long walks on your own with 2 dc?

does any of dc need to be facing you?

saskia71 · 05/12/2008 22:49

I haven't got the Duo seat, but I have the chassis it sits on (urban rider 4). Good grief, it's a heavy bit of kit and takes up a lot of room folded down. I never liked the feel of the plasticky fabric that you get with certain colours (sand). I had the traveller car seat. Its weight and size of footprint were just not right for me.

nappyaddict · 05/12/2008 22:59

Teaandcake have you had the mutsy duo then? Damn was considering it for next DC.

Have heard good things about P&T vibe and MB double.

Teaandcake · 05/12/2008 22:59

Was going to suggest Mountain Buggy double (as it is the very best) but everyone just goes on about how huge it is and discounts it straight away. It is actually the same width as most other side by side buggies.

Ooh, nearly forgot, also look at Baby Jogger City Mini. V lightweight, but not a off-roader.

Teaandcake · 05/12/2008 23:09

Hi Nappyaddict, x-posts there. No I don't own one but do sell them.

The front seat for the toddler is v small and places a lot of weight over the front axle making it v difficult to lift for kerbs etc. The rear seat for the baby can only be used with the special footmuff which has a wedge shaped cushion built in. The seat is very exposed and uncomfortable looking for a newborn (also a faff because it has to be reclined in a special way to make it suitable).

I wouldn't bother, there are far better buggies out there for the same money.

nappyaddict · 05/12/2008 23:10

Does that mean you also sell the mutsy lite rider? Does that have the same problems? You can't fit the duo seat on it though can you?

Teaandcake · 05/12/2008 23:17

Yes, we sell the Mutsy lightweight chassis but you're right, the duo seat is NOT suitable for this chassis.

As a single its fine, manageable weight, decent size reversable seat unit, nice carrycot etc. I really don't recommend the Traveller car seat though. A complete PITA to fit (if you can get it to fit properly at all). Use a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix if you need to use it as a travel system.

nappyaddict · 05/12/2008 23:21

I know all about the blardy traveller car seat. It didn't fit in hardly anyone's car either!! (I have the urban rider but thinking of getting a 4 rider now)

Does the 4 rider still have the problem that the urban rider has with all the weight being over the front wheels so hard to lift up kerbs?

Teaandcake · 05/12/2008 23:31

No, the balance is much better on the Urban Rider. The front swivel wheels make it far easier to steer also.

Might be a good plan if you already have the seat unit/raincover etc.

nappyaddict · 05/12/2008 23:33

is there meant to be a than between better and on? can't quite work out which one you are saying is better for tipping up kerbs etc but think you are saying the lightweight chassis?

Teaandcake · 05/12/2008 23:39

Apologies, its been a long day!

The lightweight chassis is much easier to tip back for climbing kerbs and is much lighter to steer.

ELMOchristmascountdown · 06/12/2008 09:12

i've got powertwin for when i need to go to tight shops and need it to go in boot of my 207 properly. it's great if you want a tandem. the options for the newborn/toddler are undelievable. you can have either in front or back

but i also recommend the twin two if you have a problem with 3 wheelers. as when dc get older you can have problems with sterring if toddlers falls asleep in front seat and leans to the side with powertwin. the 2 front wheels on twin two stops this. but obviously not as easy to swivel.

also get the carrycot/car seat that lies flat. then you can have lo facing you while laying flat in carrycot.

but i got an mb double earlier this year. it is the best, by far for walking.

i've had a loan on holiday of nipper double. it is also fantastic. but with 3 wheels on nipper and 4 wheels on mb, i'd prefer the 2 front sviwels anyday. much easier for going up kerbs.

mb is also very deceiving size wise. it looks like a huge monster i suppose. but it is actually smaller than nipper. and fits easier thru doors.

this is due to the mb wheels sitting directly under the seat units (only possible as 4 wheels instead of 3)

it has the biggest basket with very handy pockets/compartments for bottles/wallet,etc.

the raincover has a panel which opens at front (so too does jane) which is very important. as doubles get very very hot very quickly with raincover on.

both the jane and mb have large seat units. plenty of width . no problem with winter clothing and footmuff.

nipper is narrow. very narrow. struggle with a 2.5yo and winter clothing.

icandy has small seat units. and personally i dont like the full seat recline iykwim. prefer the back to move and bum bit stay in place. iykwim.

folding wise.

you will struggle to beat a jane.
one handed open. you just flick clip and "shake" and it springs open. and it folds up small. wheels pop off. but it's more designed to fit in a hatchbak shape wise.

mb and nipper fold like a penknife. they split in middle and fold in. very large. and very heavy to lift into boot (but not heavy to push or steer)
but if you have the boot space go for it.

icandy is also supposed to be huge to fold. not sure about mutsy.

nappyaddict · 06/12/2008 21:08

these are meant to be good

mumo75 · 06/12/2008 21:55

mumo75 · 07/12/2008 10:00

mumo75 · 07/12/2008 10:04

mummymaggie · 07/12/2008 22:49

aaahhh I am soo lost now....

ELMOchristmascountdown \I am looking for a double pram/buggy that is not to heavy as I am out and about all the time and will be out with both muchkins on my own.

I would say I need the newborn facing me but my 18month old can face either way as it does not matter. Not fussed about looking designer I just need something practical and comfy for the two bubs.
~Any suggestions from people?

P&T just look horrid but if I am told they are great I will consider. I had not hear of the ABC Buggy will research that one.

\Not sure about having them side by side as it looks a nightmare for the shops.

HELPPPPP!!! please

mumo75 forgot to ask, why are you selling yours? they look fantastic! are they light? what are the downfalls of the ABC buggy?

and my other friend has this

mummymaggie · 07/12/2008 23:12

Cheers nappyaddict~! not sure about the first as it seems super long... will have a look at the other though.

nappyaddict · 07/12/2008 23:16

I have heard people say the seat doesn't lie as flat as other pushchairs on the ABC one. I think 170 degrees plus is preferable for newborns and the ABC is only 165 degrees.

ELMOchristmascountdown · 08/12/2008 08:53

go see the jane's. both powertwin and powertwin 2.
try and go somewhere that stock is up to date. not mothercare. staff dont even know how half the prams work.

the car seat which converts to carycot that clips in and off with one hand is a great thing for newborns.

and you will not beat the powertwin for size and ease to put it up and down to get out and about.

it's so unbelievably easy. you dont have to remove any hoods/seat to fold. and it's smaller than alot of single prams.

powertwin can turn on a six pence making it great for shops. powertwin is a bit longer but can take the full carrycot option and for people who cant "do" 3 wheels.

sounds to me as if you will be put out by every side by side. particularly if you will be at shops alot on your own.

p&t i cannot bear. dont like that bottom seat. and in particular how enclosed lo is when newborn.

plus you have to remove the doubles seat every time you put it in the car. which is a real pita for someone like me who is in and out car all day sometimes.

seats in jane are some of biggest i found.and very padded and comfy

mumo75 · 08/12/2008 10:59

im NOT selling mine --its for keeps lol
