desperate - please help! Searching for discontinued dummies

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:14

My son will only take the Tommee Tippee closer to nature dummies. The ones he uses have now been discontinued and we are down to 4. It really helps his reflux and I have spent a small fortune trying out other dummies to no avail. Does anyone have any or know where I can get them. Please help, they really offer us all respite when he is having a bad reflux attack.

these?

or these?

Seona1973 · 22/11/2008 20:23

or is it these at a horribly inflated price?

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:26

The ones at horribly inflated prices. They were discontinued (I never knew) and people bulk bought to see at crazy prices. I am only just finding that out this evening. I am trying to desperately search for them.

I'm sure I have two of those ones that are a horribly inflated prices, they have no box but have never been used. I bought them as they were reduced to 99p in Boots but he likes his Avent ones so we never used them. I think they are size 3 months + if they are any use to you?

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:30

They are called soft rim closer to nature dummies. My other two children didn't take dummies and I thought I had hit jackpot when they did such a good job of soothing my son and now aarrggh

OP posts:
Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:31

Oh bluebump I would love them if you don't mind. How much do you want for them?

OP posts:
bluebump · 22/11/2008 20:32

Nothing, as I said they only cost me 99p! They are no use to me so you are welcome to them...let me just pop upstairs and check I still have them!

IlanaK · 22/11/2008 20:33

Here they are a little cheaper than on ebay, but not by much.

bluebump · 22/11/2008 20:35

Yes I've got 2, unused but no box if you want them?

NellieTheEllie · 22/11/2008 20:37

Those are EXACTLY the ones I have traipsed (sp?) around town today trying to find!!!
They want eight pounds for them
Scifinerd - Was using these for the same reflux reason as you and now my Dd won't even entertain the idea of anything else!!
If anyone else finds some at a more reasonable price there will be another very happy Mumsnetter! (and Mumsnetter daughter)

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:39

yes please
How do I email you my address without everyone on mN seeing. Is that possible?

OP posts:
IlanaK · 22/11/2008 20:39

I have googled extensively just now (nothing else to do!) and can only find them listed as out of stock in most places excpet the one I linked to.

There are other Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature ones on the market now. I tried some recently (in fact, I was looking for the very ones you mentioned as I had seen them on tv). They are similar in that they sort of move in and out with the sucking motion. Would those work?

bluebump · 22/11/2008 20:41

Good point, i'm not sure actually...hopefully someone will come along with how to do it!

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:43

Nellie, I am searching and will let you know. Perhaps if we can keep this thread going other MN will know too. Very at mercenary ebayers. And at Tommee Tippee. From what I can see there are loads of mums in our position.

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 20:46

Shall we send a petition to Tommee Tippee to reinstate them. Only half joking but our dcs will be at school before anything would happen. Oh so frustrated.

NellieTheEllie · 22/11/2008 20:52

Scifinerd, thankyou. I am trying to have a bit of a search too - afraid i'm a bit of a computerphobe though!
If I had had any clue that they were going to stop selling them, I would have bulk bought (like the ebayers obviously did)
IlanaK- Thanks for looking too. For me it isn't really the in/out sucking motion, it is the shape of the dummy. It is sort of a 'cherry' type shape, but not quite, which is why it is so hard to replace them!

Sawyer64 · 22/11/2008 20:55

Try HERE

IlanaK · 22/11/2008 20:56

The ones I bought were like that - like an elongated cherry shape. Have you looked at the new ones - they may be the same.

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 21:03

Hi thank you all of you. IlanaK the new ones are a different shaped teat, I have bought so many and he just spits them out. But I appreciate your help

Hi there...I have had the same issue and managed to get some of the discontinued dummies at Amazon. Not sure if they're still in stock, but the price wasn't as bad as ebay. Have tried the new style but my dd cries and cries...she is not impressed! Maybe we need to campaign to get them reinstated!

Midge25 · 22/11/2008 21:07

The shape of the new ones is totally different

AnarchyAunt · 22/11/2008 21:09

Have you tried looking in the local Poundland/Home Bargains/cheapy shops? They very often have discontinued things going very cheap.

Scifinerd · 22/11/2008 21:17

My dh thinks I am insane contemplating paying some of these crazy prices. He says what happens when they get lost or broken, the prices will be even higher. He thinks we should spend a weekend weaning ds onto another type of dummy. I am not convinced, what do you all think? I could so so do without this headache. I am not thinking fond thoughts about Tommee Tippee right now. and

OP posts:
NellieTheEllie · 22/11/2008 21:27

Have just emailed Tommee Tippee... will keep you posted

NellieTheEllie · 22/11/2008 21:31

Scifinerd - my husband would think the same, which is why I won't tell him if I end up paying that much for them
or.... I might just let him wean her onto another dummy and see how long it is till he is bidding on ebay
