Please talk to me about MOUNTAIN BUGGIES - again...

Sorry to be a bore

I've decided to sell the buggies we already have as none of them is really ideal where we live now.

I'm going to use the money to get a Mountain buggy - I had an older one, and I miss it.

However I am flummoxed by all the choices now.

I loved the old fabric, not too keen on the manmade stuff - I found a cheap new Urban the other day but have now cancelled the order as I think I want the Elite, apparently it has nicer fabric?

Has anyone got one, and is this true?

I also don't understand the differences between the 08 and 09 models, and I didn't realise the Elite was available a few years ago...so am quite confused as ti how to get the best version, and how to tell which one the shops are selling as some say 08 and some say 09.

Please bear with me. It is worth it for you lot as you will get to buy it from me second hand once my toddler decides he's walking everywhere (probably in about 6 weeks lol)

Thankyou

Why not try phoning MB UK and asking them? I found them very helpful when I bought my 05/06 Urban, and they even matched Kiddicare's price for me!

You should try a BOB, as easy as the MB & fits a much larger child, there's one on ebay ATM

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 16/11/2008 09:18

thanks, everyone

well to start with I've had a look at the Bob and am ashamed to say I am more concerned about the way the MB looks so lovely than whether it is easier

Mind you there aren't exactly a plethora of MBs on ebay either! lol

I guess nobody is selling an elite because they like theirs so much...

MBUK currently under water - I got put through to the Dutch office, which was great fun
luckily they speak good English..
but will ring them in the week, I'm amazed they price matched, that's marvellous! Thanks for the tip.

I like the Nipper - in what way is it better?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 16/11/2008 10:11

Nipper is much lighter, it is smaller though, another great 3 wheeler is the baby jogger there are a few different models I think it is the elite that is the off roader, if you want one just for pavements they do the mini city version with smaller wheels.

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 16/11/2008 13:17

Hi Cargirl, thanks again

I'll have a look at the baby jogger versions, couldn't see the model you mean on the chariots site but will keep looking.

If anyone is interested in the 2007 Urban in Plum it is back on the website (or will be soon!) at Winstanleys pramworld. I cancelled it this morning.
They are asking 335 which is pretty good as most of the discounted ones in places are in college stripe or baroque, and I didn't like either of those.

Flightattendant4 · 16/11/2008 14:00

Thankyou! The City is really nice isn;t it?

CarGirl · 16/11/2008 14:01

I'm getting a mini next week as don't go off road it's going to be my car buggy IYSWIM

Flightattendant4 · 16/11/2008 14:14

Yes I think you should

I wish I had kept my old MB, it was so nice.

I've got a few four wheeled air tyred ones and they are just incredibly awkward to push - heavy, and the pavements are really narrow here, and it's up a hill.

I seem to get 'drawn' to the MB every time I see one. It's so weird - like I'll see one in the street and think 'I have to have that buggy!'. I don't normally get that about things.

Flightattendant4 · 16/11/2008 14:15

Am keeping Gesslein I think though, in case I ever do have another child...it's gorgeously made - and maclaren for in the boot, but am selling my Jane Nomad, Teutonia Mistral and maybe the Emmaljunga.

I think I had better got on ebay and do some listing actually

SparklyGothKat · 16/11/2008 14:24

I have an elite MB with baroque covers, would consider selling for a good price

SparklyGothKat · 16/11/2008 14:27

do have the navy elite covers and liner, but the seat has gone a bit funny.

Flightattendant4 · 16/11/2008 14:43

SGK can I email you about it? Thanks!

Flightattendant4 · 16/11/2008 14:43

What's up with the seat btw?

EachPeachPearMum · 16/11/2008 20:35

Blimey Flight! You seem to like pushchairs

Can you tell me what the best rear-facing would be for urban use?

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 05:34

Helleau eachpeach

Hmm. I need more information my dear.

Now, how old is the baby/child? That makes a difference. What are your routes like? Are you planning to do much walking - how wide are the pavements? Do you need a buggy board, a large basket...would you be using it mainly for shopping or say, the school run, walking to nursery/preschool, that kind of thing?

We've to think about width and swivel wheels and such.

If you can give me some rough clues I'm sure me and Cargirl can try and sort you out

She is much better on this than me though - I have mostly had older ones and she knows all the new stuff.

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 05:36

In the meantime, check out the Bugaboo and the Quinny comfort - that's rear facing - I found their older model, which only faced forwards, very good quality.

EachPeachPearMum · 17/11/2008 13:00

Oh sorry- this is from newb (due in Jan)
why are you on here at 5.30 in the morning?

erm- well... urban, resonable pavements, sometimes a littel narrow due to cars parking on them
Nursery run and supermarket mostly- I have a dd who'll be 3 in feb, so buggy board is going to be essential I think- she is still using her buggy pretty much fulltime, though we have tried and tried to persuade her. Will be switching to internet food shopping though I think.

WOuld probably like the carrycot bit for early months, if they can fit a buggy board with them.

My DD's pushchair was great in terms of size- it was a M&P Aria,- very small and manoevrable, fit in shops no problems, and we don't have a hall, so we don't want it to take up too much space in the house. Nice and lightweight too- I have a set of 3 steps up to my front door.

Don't need a car seat, as dd's is still in perfect condition, and due to plagio issues last time, I don't want to push DS round in a car seat whilst shopping etc.

That quinny looks all right, but I would like to avoid Bugaboo or quinny really, as they are just too popular! Sorry if they're really good buggies...

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 16:00

Hello! Congrats too!! Phew, I am so glad you said not Bugaboo because Cargirl really likes them and I don't so we might have had a difference of opinion

Reading your post, I was thinking of suggesting a P&T - popular again, I know, but actually a lifesaver if you just want to get somewhere and dd doesn't want to walk swiftly. You have baby lying face up underneath dd so you can see him/her and he/she can see you. Also you can lift the little carrier thingy out while baby is sleeping. And it is a slim buggy overall so good for small house.

However - if you want something that'll be rear facing as baby gets a bit bigger, it needs to take a buggy board - I will have a think.

Hauck Infinity is a good one - my best friend has one and it's been very reliable, is rear facing, a bit more sturdy than a bug and less popular. The basket is pants though. I'll have a think about some more. There's nothing I've had that's been rear facing, smallish, taken a board easily...except if you went for a Pliko Switch, that's half price at M&P at the mo - Pliko is renowned as a great all rounder and it has a carrycot. This new version also goes backwards. I am pretty sure it'll take a board too.

The only bad thing about them is that they have two handles, which means you need both hands to steer, (not always easy with older child!) and I personally don't like babies in anything without air tyres for the first 3 months, as their moro reflex has to work overtime! Perhaps you might be able to borrow a P&T for that period, then pass it on/sell it on?

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 16:00

Bloody thing ate my post!

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 16:02

Oh and I am on at 5.30 because I am very very intellectual and my overactive brain wakes me up that early...

actually no, I'm lying just general sleeplessness/baby kicking me out of bed, you know...

EachPeachPearMum · 17/11/2008 16:51

Hauck infinity is the only one I've considered so far! great minds, etc...
Yes basket is small, though tbh shouldn't need to put too much in there... am really hoping to be more organised about shopping this time round
We have been menu planning for a couple of months, and the difference moneywise is really good!

Have you heard anything good about the herbie? because that looks okay, though seems huge (especially compared to my little old aria!)

My friend has a pliko, but I just hate the 'upholstery' colours/patterns on them... they are very fuddy-duddy I think

I am too fussy, thats the problem!

DH likes look and price of infinity, but I would like to try one out pushing around before I buy it, and have only seen online.

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 17:39

Oh my friend really likes her infinity, so much that I almost wish I had got one (but have just ordered my mountain buggy, yeeeehah!) and it seems to be very stable and easy iyswim. The nice thing about them is they don't tend to fall over like a lot of prams. Weight all in the middle iyswim. So child can get in and out by itself a bit.

I like the look of the Herbie but I haven't heard anything much about it except someone got one when they first came out and said they were a PITA - I can't remember why. Try searching messages on here from summer last year. It might come up!

In many respects I think Pliko over herbie, if you can find a pattern you like. Sofa on wheels anyone
I quite like them myself but am not a trendy type.
