so does everyone have a techno because it is the best buggy ever, or is it just because everyone else has one?

I went to a birthday party today and there were 8 (i counted them) grey maclaren techno xt lined outside the door, including mine.

it is a great buggy but as i am looking to replace it i am wondering whether it is the best- or are we missing a trick? i would love something that ticks all the techno boxes, but is a bit different... anyone has any recommendations?

It is the best buggy ever (and I've had hundreds, ask my DH!). Anything else I have tried always felt crap/cheap by comparison so can't help with an alternative, sorry! Truly biased.

Cicatrice · 07/11/2008 20:36

I have a maclaren Quest, because it is lighter, but is is essentially the same. At nursery, it is all maclaren. We had a Loola before. The maclaren is infinitely better.

goingfor3 · 07/11/2008 20:38

I really like mine, comfortable to push and a really good sized seat.

CarGirl · 07/11/2008 20:38

I didn't get on with the techno because I'm only 5' and the handles were too high and it aggrevated my bad back. The ryder would be fine for me and nearly ticks all the same boxes and is a bit lighter?

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 07/11/2008 20:39

i love mine - i bought a petite star zia for smaller booted car but thank god i kept my techno as in comparison the zia is a pile of pants.

FeelingLucky · 07/11/2008 20:45

I did no research into buggies and got a techno because this was the one everyone has and thought it would be good for public transport - which it is.
Didn;t use it for ages though as wore DD in a sling.
Now I've stopped slinging in cold weather, I am growing to dislike the techno and wonder if I shouldn't have got a bugaboo if only for DD to face me when I'm wheeling her about so we can talk properly.

ThingOne · 07/11/2008 20:49

I hate mine. I'm 5'3 and it gave me a bad back. It was a nightmare to push with stuff in and a nightmare to push on uneven surfaces. Crap wheels. Folding mechanism rubbish an brakes have never worked properly from about 3 months old. I cannot understand why they are so popular. I am too tight to get rid of mine and replace it.

pushchair · 07/11/2008 20:51

Techno and maclaren generally are great. So strong and long lasting. can put tons of shopping on the back and big DD in seat. Very well thought out design. Like the pockets on the back. I would like maclaren to do a UV sunshade that fits on like the raincover. Thats about my only gripe.

happywomble · 07/11/2008 20:52

Well I'm 5 ft 3 and love my grey techno..is the best buggy I've had. Had a quest before and hated it.

The only thing I don't like about Maclaren buggies is the rain covers...have to really stretch them to get them over the hood.

Marina · 07/11/2008 20:54

We had a Maclaren Opus V for ds from birth and a Techno with a lambskin in for dd from birth
Both of those pushchairs did 100s of miles on pavements, off and on buses, planes and trains and lasted and lasted and lasted
The Opus especially (not made anymore sadly) was a great buy. The rage then was for those Graco travel systems (everyone else in my NCT group had them) and by the time their children were 1 year old they had all swapped them for Maclarens at half the price
Dd would have had the Opus except that ds barfed in it and it was never quite the same again

Plonker · 07/11/2008 21:53

Because its the best buggy ever! ...and i've had quite a few

angelene · 07/11/2008 22:07

I've got a Quest - and felt like I got a new lease of life when I graduated from a horrendous, huge Mothercare [I had no idea emoticon] travel system. I still love it and take it out even if DD is walking to put shopping and general crap in.

PussinJimmyWhoooos · 07/11/2008 22:10

Another vote for the Techno as a good buggy! I had a Graco Travel system to start with...one em cs later and I couldn't even lift the farking thing so decided on something smaller. Its a fab buggy but agree with the sunshade comment. Shopping bag isn't that big either but that aside, really love my Mac.

glitterkitty · 07/11/2008 22:21

Another vote- techno is fab, I always pity big buggy users on the bus.

Mine fits anywhere and I can kick it down in a sec if the bus is busy- and I'm only 5ft!

glitterkitty · 07/11/2008 22:21

not that I'm putting down housewives, obv.

phdlife · 07/11/2008 22:23

I got mine simply because it came so highly recommended. on MN, of course

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 22:39

Never had either but am cionsidering getting one.

Would you lot reccommend Techno XT OR XLR? Am a bit skint so would have to be cheapish is only reason am thinking of XT.

elkiedee · 07/11/2008 22:51

We have a Quest and I'm planning to get a Techno for dc2 due in January (we've already been bought a secondhand double buggy but I will have times when I'm just taking the youngest out and about as ds1 will be at his childminder).

I'm probably getting the XLR but may just get the XT because of the choice of colours available - the XLR comes with pink, orange or brown as one of the major colours whereas I could get the xt in colours I prefer. I was thinking about the xlr because it includes accessories I'd have to spend the price difference to get anyway, but I'm still dithering a bit.

Both technos seem to have decent brakes unlike our Quest, which matters if you use public transport where you don't have to fold up the buggy (eg London buses).

Ohforfoxsake · 07/11/2008 22:54

I've ditched my Maclaren and got a Silver Cross buggy for DC4. It just feels more comfortable somehow, still sturdy, light, easy umbrella fold and quite robust. If I had to replace it, I'd stick with Silver Cross, and was slightly cheaper.

sweetkitty · 07/11/2008 23:05

I loved my Techno XT got it when DD1 was 6 weeks, it did her for 18 months before DD2 came along and we had the dreaded single, then did DD2 for a bit, even DD3 was in it for a wee while before the P&T arrived. It's looking a bit jaded now and the brakes are a bit rusty, may have to invest in a new one.

carrielou2007 · 08/11/2008 12:24

Hmmmn, think I am one of the few who thought it was awful. I don't find that they are good quality (though everyone on here tells me they come with lifetime warranty etc) they rattle like billie-o. I would not put a newborn in it (I borrowed one from very kind friend for holiday when dd was 10 weeks old and she was not a small baby).

Too heavy to use as a stroller with heavy toddler. What on earth is the grey colour about??? Why not black at the very least???

Each to their own I suppose, really not for me, have also had many many prams for dd one at the mo is a quest and happy with that for holidays.

beforesunrise · 08/11/2008 14:01

so it looks like the general consensus is... another techno.

however, i was toying with the idea of buying a chicco liteway, i saw it in mothercare and liked it. anyone has any experience?

misdee · 08/11/2008 14:03

i dont have a techno. am a shorty, so i have a ryder instead. big chunky wheels like the techno, more padded than the quest, but lower handles than the techno which suits me better. i love my ryder.

carrielou2007 · 08/11/2008 14:42

How about a silver cross pop? Almost same spec as techno, nice big wheels that don't rattle, nice comfy seat, easy to push one handed (though high so only good for us tall-ies)pocket on back, viewing windon on nice big hood and they come in decent colours!!!

I had one in black, sold it last year and bought one in candy. Bought the quest for holiday buggy, have dazzle and bugaboo so pop needs to go to a new home.

ChukkyPig · 08/11/2008 14:46

All my friends have technos but my DH is tall and when we tested them out he kept getting his feet tangled up and/or booting the place where the baby was going to be!

We got a graco in the end, it was fab and superb value. I have to admit I ditched it for a super lightweight one (you know one of those ones like toy ones) as soon as I could as I push the sprog around on pavements a lot...
