Phil & Teds Sport (or other buggy) and Maxi Cosi car seat

Hi

I am thinking about buying a Phil & Ted Sports (the newborn lies flat) for when DC2 comes along (DD1 will be 26 months then).

Does anyone know whether i can use a Maxi Cosi car seat for my newborn AND still have my DD1 sitting in the buggy? the research i've done so far seems to say you can only use the Maxi Cosi with the buggy in 1 seat mode?

Or if not, is there another double buggy (pref tandem but open to suggestions) that can fit the maxi cosi and also have a toddler sitting in it?

Thanks

no, you can't use the adaptors for the car seat with another child in the buggy.

tbh i always had DD1 in her car seat on my M&P pliko but when DD2 came along, i never missed not using the car seat on the buggy - i just used the cocoon and second seat which i found fab.

if you really do want to use the car seat and todder on one buggy have you looked at the jane powertwin? i think you can use that with the toddler in the front and the baby in the car seat behind (but probably has to be the jane one)

munteria · 27/10/2008 19:47

ok. thanks.

i'd only want to use the Maxi Cosi really as dont want to splash out on another car seat. seems as if i will have to get used to not using the car seat, which as you said you found ok.

if anyone knows the best and cheapest place to get a P&T's would be much appreciated!

i bought mine from oxford pram centre they have great c/s really lovely people and good prices... www.oxfordpramcentre.com

However noticed in Mothercare today that they are doing the sport but only in red with doubles kit for £325.98, not sure you can get cheaper than that anywhere?

munteria · 28/10/2008 19:44

great. will check it out.

I've used Two Left Feet before as found them to be cheaqp i.e. for car sears. but the c/c is awful!

if you search there is a clearer explanantion of the way but mothercare are cheapest the deal in sport mentioned above with the code af 8 gets it down to about £300/£10

amidaiwish · 28/10/2008 20:32

don't use Two Left Feet, they are really bad. do a search on here and you will see the problems people have had.

naomi83 · 29/10/2008 12:57

don't use two left feet, kiddicare are just as cheap and you'll actually get a buggy at the end of the day!

sasamax · 30/10/2008 11:00

Munteria - you can fir the doubles seat on while the car seat is attached to the main seat. The problem is, it makes the pram unstable. It is do-able but not recommended as you would need to use force on the handle to prevent the pram from tipping backwards.

munteria · 30/10/2008 14:37

no, i def wont use two left feet again!

will check mothercare out - thanks for the code

SASAMAX - thanks for that though yes does sound a bti dodgey

How about a double mountain buggy? Side by side but you can get a newborn carrycot for it and think you might be able to get a maxi cosi on too!

...sorry...

munteria · 30/10/2008 20:12

which one? everything i've read says that the side by side ones are a pain to get through shop doors etc?

OP posts:
sasamax · 30/10/2008 21:48

The mountain buggy fits through most standard doors - as does the phil & teds side by side but of course they are still wider than singles...

littleducks · 30/10/2008 22:10

the phil and teds twin double does look good, saw one at legoland, it is too wide for me though after a maclaren i bump into things with my p and t tandem

i had being getting peed off with my phil and teds but a few days without it and i miss it with all my heart, dd saw on e in a shop window and started crying for it, when the whole reason i was getting fed up was because she didnt want to sit in it, but thats toddlers for you

jlh69 · 30/10/2008 22:22

Have been looking on the internet loads for Phil and Ted's deals. Was going to go for ibe but now decided on the Sport. Quite a few sites have the buggy, double seat, cocoon and double rain cover for around £380.
There was a thread on here about the maxi-cosi. Lots of people seemed to use the car seat with 2 babies even though not strictly recommended...

sazm · 30/10/2008 23:33

why would you say its not recommended?
its not recommended to buy/use a second hand car seat as you dont know how its been looked after/stored/or if its been in an accident/dropped.
if it was used by yourself for your first baby,so long as you used it properly, and its not been in an accident/dropped its fine to use it again (so long as its not over 5/6yrs old)

jlh69 · 31/10/2008 14:17

I meant that it's not recommended to use it on the Phil and Ted's when you have 2 DCs in the pram

munteria · 31/10/2008 20:03

Hi jlh69

I've also been looking at the sport or the vibe. why did you decide to go for the sport over the vibe? apart from the fact its more expensive!

My lo was 25mo when lo2 arrived. I had a P&T for walking which I use all the time but got a Quinny Zapp (just clip the maxi cosi on) for when were just nipping in and out of places in the car as lo1 was happy to walk for small periods. 10m on the P&T is still getting loads of use with lo2 in the front most of the time and lo1 hopping in and out the back and the Zapp has now been converted to a pushchair for nipping in and out of the car. I paid £100 for the zapp but I think you can get them quite cheap on ebay. HTH

pardon · 31/10/2008 20:19

PS - I nanny share with another family with kids same age. They bought a side by side and she hates it cos she can't get in half the places round here. (As it's too wide, not that she's an undesirable!) She loves mine. And get the cocoon - it's really easy to transfer baby whilst asleep

munteria · 01/11/2008 18:30

thanks so much - i have been convinced!

jlh69 - if you can tell me why you went for the sport over the vibe that would be great

munteria- haven't made my final decision yet but think am going for Sport. The woman in Mothercare was really selling the Vibe and practically wouldn't show me the Sport but then we went to an independent shop and the guy there was def more pro the Sport. It is a little bit narrower (we have a small hallway), seems to be more compact when it's folded and although the seat is a bit narrower seems to be longer. The selling points of the Vibe seem to be that you can fold it with both seats on but that seems to be really hard and that it has a plastic footwell rather than fabric. Also has the brake on the handle bar but the foot brake on the Sport seems OK. The handle bar on the Vibe also seemed more uncomfortable to push too.
To be honest I'm getting bored of thinking about it so am just going to order a Sport. i have a Bugaboo that I love so whatever I get is never going to be as good. Might as well save the £100 or so as well.

littleducks · 02/11/2008 09:42

either buy from mothercare or double check the inde shop is giving you the newest chassis (i just had replaced a few days ago from mothercare so know they have new ones in waehouse) there was a safety issue on the older one

the new chassis has a a grey button you press to unlock from folded as previously it wouldnt stay shut with the fabric tags some mners had accidents (thread) and the plastic on the newborn rear cover has toggles to keep in place instead of velcro (a real imporovement)

UmSami · 02/11/2008 10:12

munteria...I just bought a sport over a vibe...DS 2.7 & DC2 due to be induced tomorrow...
Saw vibe in UK not available where we live, but we were happy to import...
Anyhoo, the toddler seat on the vibe was too short for my thin but long DS...he'd never have slept in it...DH hated the way it folded...and well I just preferred the way the Sport looked...found the Vibe too Quinny buzz esque...been there done that...want a change.
Little duck, thanks for the advice of Chassis, bit worried about that...was aware of problems but didnt know they'd improved...may have problems finding here though...will see...only supplier is mothercare but even so
