i have a phil and teds buggy bought from mothercare 4 months ago, i received a parcel today from mothercare with two plastic parts in and the following info(which is on p and t website):
The following products have required such action.

e3, sport v1 - folding mechanism cover to secure buggy in folded position

We strongly recommend you obtain and fit our Hinge Covers.
Some e3/sportv1 inline® buggy users are not using the folded frame-lock straps. In such cases, the buggy may unexpectedly unfold, causing the front part to flip forward. If this happens and the person also has their hand in the main hinge (in spite of the sticker on the frame warning against this), injury can result.

The hinge covers reduce the risk of injury when folding or unfolding your sport v1 or e3 buggy.

mothercare sent me these parts as they had my details but if you go to the p and t website you can request a pair just scroll down

out of interest does anyone else not use strap clips when folding buggy, we dont as its too stiff the strap seems too short? appears we arent alone

Gawd I wish I had known about them sooner - I smashed DH's tail light on the car putting in the back recently when the front flipped out, luckily noone injured

I have never managed to secure my Sport in the folded position - how exactly is this possible?

Jennster · 28/08/2008 21:43

Thanks LittleDuck! Have sent for one.

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 21:45

So, can I just go to a Mothercare store (for example) and ask for them do you think? My Sport was purchased in America.

blithedance · 28/08/2008 21:54

Well I always pick up my buggy by the bar across the narrow end when folded (or you could use the bumper bar if you have it on). That stops it getting out of control.

Then to unfold I pick up the buggy by the main handle and kind of flip out the front wheel, so my hands are well out of the way.

By all means send for the hinge covers as well, of course. Is there a picture anywhere?

I do as you describe to and have never had a problem yet but i think if its available its probably best to use it, and if you intend to sell it on (am hoping to ebay mine in the future) it would be necessary

there is a diagram on the earlier link scroll down and click on fitting instructions, the cover is plain black plastic

I broke my little finger when it was squashed because of this bloody really hurts and hurts to open it to let your finger out!

lovecamping · 28/08/2008 22:03

i've not had a problem with my sport but will look into it.

thank you!!

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 22:03

So should I also have some sort of strap to secure it when folded? I have never had one of those.

ilovemydog · 28/08/2008 22:03

well, good on P & T for doing this. They sent it free of charge and wasn't even asked for!

Got mine in the mail this morning.

littleducks · 28/08/2008 22:11

Washersaurus, the frame lock is a blwck webbing strap, see in picture from online instructions top picture

theirmum that sounds horrible

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 22:20

Ahhh so THAT is what it is for . I find it very handy for securing the rain cover when it is not in use

littleducks · 28/08/2008 22:26

it doesnt seem to work well for me though, may try again now it is folded without doubles seat on top

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 22:27

Oops washersaurus, our P&T has a longer strap 1 side than the other for keeping closed depending on whether the front wheel is on or off.

TheirMum

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 22:32

There doesn't seem to be much difference in the length of mine - maybe a cm at most? I can't see how it would work (can't be arsed to fold it at the moment as full of stuff and pannier bag on it )

Twiga · 28/08/2008 22:35

Have duely sent for mine - thanks for the heads up!

Washersaurus, I managed to miss that completely too - we ordered ours on-line and apart from a quick demo of a friends, never really got an official tour - I'm sure they've never used this either (must email them). Feel slightly daft having missed it in the book though.

littleducks · 28/08/2008 22:35

washersaurus, same here, it is ineffective, does keep it shut but hard to put on, i have to fold mine all the time (YOU NEED TO CLEAROUT SHED DH!!!!) and its too much hassle

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 22:41

In my defence, mine stays up all the time as we use it every day and we have a nifty maclaren for the car that DS1/2 take turns to sit in when required.

I only have to fold the P&T when we go camping - which is when I damaged the car

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 22:43

I take off the wheel but then am only closing it to put it the in travel bag for airport as sits in car made up.

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 22:43

I tell you though, those straps keep your raincover really tidy! I pop the black toggles through the holes and use the elastic on the raincover to bunch the raincover up neatly

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 22:45

And the UV Mesh cover also the large beach parasol

Twiga · 28/08/2008 23:02

oh, those ones - i don't think i was even looking at the right thing - the two black bits with eyelets in that stick out at each side ? How on earth does that work then - can't see how that keep anything springing open, and really can't see length diff. Really, really now - going to blame pg horones and tiredness!

Washersaurus · 28/08/2008 23:07

I couldn't tell you which is meant to be the longer one - I didn't like to say before in fear of revealing my stupidity

Twiga · 28/08/2008 23:09

They look like they would make better cover holders anyway - i just thought they were part of the slightly utility type look of the thing . And with that last confession, I'm off to bed.....

jca1 · 20/10/2008 12:30

Hi Rubberducks, I also recieved the hinge covers too late...and alas had also already amputated the top of my little finger in the hinge when lifting out of the car. For your info Trading Standards are looking into this issue and I urge anyone who has injured themselves to contact your local Trading Standards to let them know as they are compiling a list of incidents.
