I will buy whatever hoover you all tell me to... so what is it going to be?

I have a super duper miele cylinder. It is v good. I am going to be running 2 houses for (hopefully) not too long, so need another one and then when I am down to 1 house again, one can stay upstairs (always wanted to be a 2 hoover household lol).

Do I buy another miele to make life easier on the hooverbag front (not that it is easy to buy those bloody bags anyway), do I get an upright (is there any benefit to them?) or does nobody really care (don't blame you at all).

God I am so knackered from organising and planning everything re moving that I can't even choose a hoover. How sad is that. Please help!

Ha! My first thought was Roomba too. Then you have a normal one for doing edges and the robot one for the everyday grind. I HEART HEART HEART mine!

yomellamoHelly · 05/08/2008 22:01

Okay read thread now. Have carpets everywhere too if that swings it!

Bluestocking · 05/08/2008 22:02

I have just bought (like thirty seconds ago) a Miele HEPA. Assembled vacuum experts, please tell me this will be OK! My Dyson has blown up in protest at being used to hoover up builders' rubble and I was sick to death of being liberally showered with crematorium dust every time I emptied it.

WendyWeber · 05/08/2008 22:03

mielemielemielemielemiele

I have the old black one (S580 or thereabouts) which they don't make any more.

Get your bags from a site like this, pph - quite cheap, discount for multiple purchase & fixed p&p - I usually get c 5 boxes at a time (at the rate I clean they last several years )

Elasticwoman · 05/08/2008 22:08

Miele. Avoid Dyson like the plague.

mckenzie · 05/08/2008 22:17

Sebo. My new Sebo Felix glides over the carpet, it is so light and easy to move that even 7 year old DS likes to hoover the lounge and 4 year old DD has a go too. I never thought I'd say this but....... I love my hoover!

Goober · 05/08/2008 22:36

Dyson Animal.

cluelessnchaos · 05/08/2008 22:38

miele

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 22:57

Ok if I go for another cylinder it will be a miele (but grrr all the JL ones appear to use different bags to my seemingly identical looking old one)

Is there any benefit to having an upright, since I already have a cylinder? Some of those sebos look good... are htey less backbreaking?

And finally HOW have I not heard of this roomba thing? Does it really work? I think I'm going to have to google. Will it cope with a vast house covered in carpet? Really? Hmmmmmm

The yellow one uses FJM bags - those are what my oldish one uses so assume yours is the same?)

josben · 05/08/2008 23:07

got to be a SEBO for me

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 23:15

ahh yes those are the bags. didn't look at that one because it is compact, but maybe that would be Ok...

so nobody likes uprights then? OK. Miele it is....

OP posts:
whooosh · 05/08/2008 23:18

Upright SEBO-trust me it virtually hoovers on it's own-but much better than our roomba.

SEBO will change your life-I promise!!!

silverfrog · 05/08/2008 23:21

roombas are fab. we have wall to wall carpets, plus assorted rugs, and it copes just fine.

It is wonderful to be sitting having a G&T while your hoover oes the hoovering

easy to set off, easy to empty - can even programme it to do the hoovering overnight...

go on, you know you want to...

{thanks for the clothes, btw - arrived this morning, and are lovely - can finally put dd2 into smething other than 2 pairs of dungarees }

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 23:23

I can't believe I've never heard of a roomba before

I am so tempted to get one... all singing all dancing 560 or is the 530 fine?

(Silverfrog I'm glad they are OK - I feel bad that you donated so much because I didn't have much to send you compared to some others, I was expecting a fiver !)

Three months ago, I replaced my still working and pretty good Miele after 12 years of faithful service with a Dyson all floors.

It is absolutely fabulous and I wish I had done it much, much sooner.

Even the boys in this household are fascinated by how great it is .

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 23:28

anna you are a rare breed - most people say "anything but a dyson"

(sorry not to meet you btw but I quite understand - hope you had a good trip and a good lunch somewhere!)

OP posts:
Anna8888 · 05/08/2008 23:32

Did you ever get my CAT or is MN Towers still on hols?

Trip was fine though totally knackering (1,200 km in two days with all sorts of stops on the way).

I have original parquet floors (1929) with huge gaps between some of them that crap falls down and only the Dyson gets out. Also some old rather hairy rugs that I recovered from my parents' attic a few years ago - the Dyson has finally killed the zoo that was living in them. I'd definitely want to use it if I was going to be living in someone else's carpets for a bit IYSWIM.

HotTrouserCough · 05/08/2008 23:33

FGS dont get a bloody Henry
God i hate him

silverfrog · 05/08/2008 23:40

I think we have a 560 Roomba, but have yet to actually programme it - not sure dd1 would take kindly to hoovering in the middle of the night! It is really fab, though, and has totally revolutionised carpet cleaning in our house...

Please DO NOT feel bad about the clothes - they are lovely, and there are petny of them. I donated what I could afford, and as I said before, you have saved me far more than that stress-wise in that I do not have to go shopping with dd1 (autistic) in tow. your offer came along at just the right time as dd2 could not go much longer without getting some clothes, but dd1 is not being very obliging at the moment, so shopping is simply not possible.

silverfrog · 05/08/2008 23:41

petny plenty

OldGregg · 05/08/2008 23:45

pph - some friends brought their roomba to visit last year . It managed a 30ft drawing room and a small sitting room but croaked on the way to it's base-thingy in the hall. I didn't hear it's happy "I've Done It" song, as lovingly described by cali!

We have a Dyson upright downstairs that is too heavy and I don't like it. We have a cheap Rio cylinder upstairs which is great and has a very long extension for de-webbing ceilings. But it's so old it's probably out of commission.

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 23:45

you are kind.
I've ordered a roomba! SO not what I was expecting to buy when starting this thread... ha! I love mumsnet

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 23:48

that's interesting oldgregg... well I'll have to see how it manages. I expect I'll end up buying a spare miele as well

I like the idea of it backing out of its base station making a "beep beep" noise like a van...!

I like to think I won't take it away for the weekend on houseparties though
