Handbags - what do you all use?

Hi, my handbag has broken and I desperately need a new one. I like fairly roomy bags that will hold dd's snacks, beaker, etc. Not too fussed about designer label or not, as long as it looks ok, oh, and has a zip fastener (I have been pickpocketted when young 'cos I was stupid enough to carry an open bucket bag)!

What do other mums carry in the day that does the job but looks good too?

Nice cord ones in Next I spotted today. Quite roomy and around £12...

Black Radley across the body bag, just big enough for wallet, keys, phone, then designer Tesco carrier bag full of kids crap.

kate100 · 11/02/2005 17:40

Ooh, I love handbags!! and I can still indulge despite being pregnant. Had a lovely dusky pink Radley bag for christmas. It's great, it has handles for when I'm on my own and a shoulder strap for hanging on the pram and it's big enough for my maternity notes.Perfect.

Newbarnsleygirl · 11/02/2005 17:50

Can we have a link for these radley bags please!

They sound very nice.

soapbox · 11/02/2005 17:58

I have a Coach one like this but in red leather.

I've also got a big Mulberry tan leather one for when I have a lot of crap to carry

Ange8 · 11/02/2005 18:41

Radley bag

Newbarnsleygirl · 11/02/2005 19:10

Thanks!

That looks like a good bag to have although it's a shame they don't do other colours.

This leather photographers' bag

Have just come across the best brand for handbags - STORKSAK - well, they're baby bags, but you would never know!
Have a look at this
My partner bought me one, its a great printed canvas mid sized bag, i use it as a fashion bag, and it fits all the stuff i need for my baby too. They knock spots off Kate Spade and Gucci!

stitch · 11/02/2005 21:22

i want a storksak. they are absolutely gorgeous.

sadly, my youngest is two tomorrow, and hopefully soon out of nappies, so my days of nappy changing are over.
i currently use a free gymbag thing dh got from work, or and old bugs life rucksack of ds1s. or just shove a nappy in a nappy sack and an almost empty pack of wipes. not very stylish sadly.

betamum · 11/02/2005 21:53

yeah, check out the storksak bags! so much more stylish than the usual baby bags - but with all the useful bits like insulated bottle compartments, changing mat - really well padded and comfy ones as well! my youngest is almost 2 but the 2 pockets at the side (classic) fit their beakers perfectly!i first read about it in Instyle, and have been hounding the staff at selfridges eversince - finally got it last w/end.i'm going to get the weekend bag next - so handy for trips to granma's, and as handluggage on flights - small enough for overhead cabin but roomy enough for all the bits you need with you.and more importantly, there's enough design variety to make sure that you're not all carrying identical bags!!

lulupop · 11/02/2005 22:03

storksaks look lovely.

however I find my $20 ll bean tote just as good, as I can never be bothered to keep emptying my handbag into different bags, so just use the tote for kids' stuff and my bag for me.

jennifersofia · 12/02/2005 11:36

Lulupop, I was just thinking of getting a bean tote! Do you have the medium or the large? I am not sure what size to get. I like the ones with the funky colours, like the hot pink or lime green, but am worried that it will get dirty really quickly. Do you know if they are washable?

mimi2 · 13/02/2005 10:24

I have a storksac- can't recommend it highly enough. Looks great and with lots of cool features- worth the money.
have a look at www.storksac.co.uk

lulupop · 13/02/2005 13:13

Hi JS, I have a few actually, accumlated over the years! I use the large size for things like taking stuff to the pool/beach on holiday, and the medium for going out with the kids more regularly.

They are machine washable - not sure if the label says so, but I've put mine through quite a lot and they come out fine.

jennifersofia · 13/02/2005 20:24

Thanks for that lulupop - think I'll go for the medium.

lollyB · 25/10/2005 16:51

Hi All, I am not sure if you are all in the USA?
I am in London and I just bought one of the new
Petit Planet leather handbag / babybag. They are really cool. Lots of celebs over here using them.
Really good price too! Have a look:

The Life range of ladies bags in leather are lovely!!

i love the look of a radley bodybag... not a handbag but not a rucksack either (trying to look less like a scruffy stuednt!)..

would it be roomy enoght for key, phone, purse PLUS a few nappies, travel paclk of wipes, raisens and all sort of bribery for a 20 month old and 4 yr old ?
