I have one. Still going stong after 5 years!
Does an average of 4 loads a week. (only me and Ds here)
Never had to be fixed, serviced etc.
Can't complain.

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 19:22

we had one a couple of machines ago. It was pretty good. Can't remember how it died, but it had lasted at least 4 years i think, and that's with use by us and various combinations of lodgers too!

southeastastra · 26/06/2008 19:23

ooh good, relaxing a bit now

My last washing machine was an indesit and lasted very well for 10 years - which was better than the machine before which lasted 6 years and was not indesit and I am struggling to remember which make it was.

MrsSprat · 26/06/2008 19:27

I had a VERY old one in a rented place, which was fine, maybe a little noisy through lack of love and attention.

ScottishMummy · 26/06/2008 19:29

my mum's indesit wmch still going strong 17+ years. no faults

mamablue · 26/06/2008 20:25

My last indesit washing machine lasted for 7 years and that was with alot of use. Have had current one for 18 months. I would recommend it.

Ledodgy · 26/06/2008 20:29

We've had ours for 9 years and it's fine.

and i'm sure our delivery man had a taco break too.

Yurtgirl · 26/06/2008 20:32

My samsung died after 14 months!

An indesit machine sounds like a good idea based on this thread!

gemmummy · 26/06/2008 20:33

ours does about 10 loads a week. had it 3 years, still fine.

hoxtonchick · 26/06/2008 20:33

mine was dreadful. sorry. have a bosch now, much better.

skiddykipper · 26/06/2008 20:36

Mine died after about 3 years - the PCB packed in, as cheap to buy a new one as to repair. Sorry!

littleducks · 26/06/2008 20:36

im eternally grateful for the extended warrenty on mine, have had it about 4 years, it has been repaired about 15 times.

also it has had a new door, bearings changed and a new door seal.

EachPeachPearMum · 26/06/2008 20:41

Ours is 6 years old, going strong.

southeastastra · 26/06/2008 20:42

oh dear, some good and bad posts here. i wonder if the newer ones are less reliable then. oh well too late now.

lol dodgy, i asked him if he enjoyed his taco but he didn't get it

Depends when you bought it. I would say, if now, I doubt it. Hotpoint is owned by indesit, and they are awful. Its the same machine, different name.

I have had my fridge replaced in the last year, within warranty, after it broke 3 times, then the second fridge broke twice and had to be repaired.

At the same time the washing machine broke, fixed twice, now out of warranty, broke again, the drying element does not work, and it only washes on one cycle.

If you have just bought it, make sure you take out the extended warranty, dont bother buying it until the end of the first year though, you can purchase it then, we have just bought it for our fridge which has just run out of warranty, as even the engineer told us it will break again.

southeastastra · 26/06/2008 20:46

i didn't realise hotpoint owned indesit, i purposely avoided hotpoint too.

thanks for the tip about the warranty, i didn't realise you could buy it after the guarantee runs out.

still it was quite cheap to start with.

Oh, and dont expect anything like decent customer service, they lie, they are rude and they are not encouraged to help you. They will do what they can to not replace your goods, and they will probably tell you that your machine needs to be put on a 90 degree service wash twice in a row, once a month before they send some-one out to repair it!

I have spoken to them about 20 times in the last 18 months, not once had a decent conversation. I had to go through the coop who I bought the first fridge with to get it replaced after 3 repairs, as Indesit group refused.

I will never buy indesit/hotpoint/ariston - all the same co.

Sorry, rant, but had very bad experiences (note the plural)!

StrawberryPavlovatheCat · 26/06/2008 20:51

south Indesit own hoptoint - its the Indesit Group. Same company now.

When I phoned about the dryer breaking, after the warranty expired, they offered for me to buy the warranty then, so you can even purchase it afterwards.

We received letters as our fridge was due to run out offering the extended warranty, its £55 per year I think? Cheaper than the £89 callout when it breaks!

On the plus side, the engineers I have had have been good...!

southeastastra · 26/06/2008 20:51

oh no.

StrawberryPavlovatheCat · 26/06/2008 20:55

But you might be ok. Our engineeer joked that we probably got the ones made on a friday afternoon!

southeastastra · 26/06/2008 20:58

i can hope i suppose, will definitely take out the warranty though (if it lasts a year)

We have had 3 Indesits, the currnet one being only 3 weeks old and was an insurance replacemnt. We took a policy out with Domestic and General, I think it was something like £14.95 for 12 months, which gave 5 years of cover, I got the new machine only having to pay £22.95 delivery
I like them, I dind't however know they were part of Hotpoint, every hotpoint my mum has had has been a disaster, so i try to avoid them!

Theresa · 26/06/2008 21:10

I am horrified when people at work seem to think about 5 years is a pretty good run for a washing machine! We started out with a second hand one, cant remember make Hotpoint maybe whihc lasted a few years and had minor repairs by a local independant repair man. He used to work at the local Proctor & Gamble factory repairing the machines they used to test washing powder in and when ours finally packed up he recommended indesit as reliable and cheap. We bought our current one nearly 10 years ago and its great, a little noisy and has had one or two minor repairs but otherwise fine (& it was one of the cheapest in the shop)

StrawberryPavlovatheCat · 26/06/2008 21:42

Apparantly Sale of Goods Act 19 something states that goods should last a proportionate amount of time relative to the money spent regardless of the warranty on it. Which means in theory that if it breaks 6 months out of warranty it should not. It should reasonably be expected to last that long.

I think its around 3years for white goods, according to the consumer bureau. I called them when I had the problems with mine. They advised that technically this means the company has an obligation to replace/refund the item which has broken, but if it is outside the warranty, they can in reality offer a sum towards a replacement, so, you can get something back, but unlikely the full cost.

I am glad I know this, as I will be quoting the Sale Of Goods Act when we have enough money to buy a bosch, they will be paying for some of it!
