Apparantly Sale of Goods Act 19 something states that goods should last a proportionate amount of time relative to the money spent regardless of the warranty on it. Which means in theory that if it breaks 6 months out of warranty it should not. It should reasonably be expected to last that long.

I think its around 3years for white goods, according to the consumer bureau. I called them when I had the problems with mine. They advised that technically this means the company has an obligation to replace/refund the item which has broken, but if it is outside the warranty, they can in reality offer a sum towards a replacement, so, you can get something back, but unlikely the full cost.

I am glad I know this, as I will be quoting the Sale Of Goods Act when we have enough money to buy a bosch, they will be paying for some of it!
