safe and comfortable and suitable from 5 months. I am clueless so don't worry about being too obvious!

most people on here seem to go for the ikea one (dead cheap) or the tripp trapp at the other end of the scale. we were given a tt and love it. think about if you want a tray or if you want it to push up to the table so LO can eat with you.

tt was fine for dd at 6 months and she was on the small side. was sitting up v well tho.

preggersplayspop · 10/06/2008 21:36

I got the Tripp Trapp which is great, but it was very messy as there is no tray and as I wanted to do BLW I ended up with an Ikea (Antilop I think its called) as well! Once my DS is a bit less likely to chuck food, plates, drinks etc off the table we will revert back to the lovely Tripp Trapp.

preggersplayspop · 10/06/2008 21:38

The Ikea one is fab by the way. Its ridiculously cheap, very stable, easy to clean and looks good as well. There is a blow up seat cushion you can get as an extra so it works really well for younger babies.

Just bought a Bloom Fresco Loft. Brilliantly designed, great chair.

Yes, I can vouch for the messiness

cornflakegirl · 10/06/2008 23:02

We have a Babydan - similar to the Tripp Trapp but cheaper. It's fab - DS (3) still uses it - no need to transition to a booster seat. It was one of the few baby things that we splurged on - we decided that since we would be looking at it for so long, we wanted it to be attractive.

Oh, and I didn't have a problem with the early mess. My table wipes. And food goes on the floor whatever high chair you have - we just put a plastic sheet down.

We never bought a highchair - we just use a £20 thing you attach to a normal chair. Added bonus is that you can detach it and take it off to restaurants, other people's houses, etc.

Great way to save space if you have a tiny house

cmotdibbler · 11/06/2008 09:13

its the Antilop or the Trip Trap for me too - both clean soo easily in comparison to other high chairs where theres lots of crevices for food to gather horribly in. The Trip Trap is our normal high chair (DS is 2 and just sits on it rather than in it now) and the Antilop is our visitor/going away high chair as it packs down really easily to go in the car

FeelingEvil · 11/06/2008 10:02

CMoT - this is what I do too! TT as normal high chair and Antilop for little visitors and travel.
Antilop also great because we can leave it out on terrace come rain or shine and dd sits in it when we dine alfresco.

LadyJogsAlot · 11/06/2008 10:04

a removable tray is important...

NotABanana · 11/06/2008 10:06

Buy mine! It is fab, in good condition, easy to move, clean and use. Recycling so good for the environment too.

cosima · 12/06/2008 11:11

Hi

I have a trvel high chair from Mothercare. A Prima Pappa full size high chair and a booster seat which covers the chair so it stays clean. All for sale.

preggersplayspop · 12/06/2008 12:58

Hopefully this link to the Ikea one works Antilop

I seem to remember the tray is sold separately and the chair can be delivered but the tray can't be. Or some other bother like that. My mum got one for me as I couldn't face a trek to Ikea!

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 12/06/2008 20:40

the only thing I'd say is, avoid straps made of webbing. bloody food traps

lackaDAISYcal · 12/06/2008 20:48

We got a nice wooden one in IKEA that has a baby crotch support bit, but it isn't on the website. It looks a bot nicer than the antilop one. WE had a mothercare thing for DS, but DD used to slide herself down in it as there was oodles of space between where she was sitting and the crotch strap. the IKEA one with the cushion meant she was too far forward to slide down. It doesn't have a try though, but we have a compact eating space in our kitchen so it was better for us for her to be right up at the table.

the straps that came with the IKEA chairs are pretty crap, so I bought a set of reins in mothercare and attached those instead. they unattach easily as well so can be bunged in the washing machine, but because they aren't an integral part of the back rest, we put her (full body) bib on over the straps so it helps keep them a bit cleaner.

oops...sorry

mum2oandh · 12/06/2008 20:56

wooden ones like the trip trap are very easr to clean, don't buy a chicco polly double phase, we did, was v. expensive (100 ish) and was absolutely rubbish as it fell apart, however it did recline, and it's amazing how often lo's fall asleep eating, and to be able to tip them back and let them have a nap was fab. worth thinking about, as there are other chairs that recline like this, but generally not wood ones.

fillybuster · 12/06/2008 20:57

The £10 one from Ikea is superb, the tray comes off for cleaning and the whole thing collapses beautifully for storage in between babies. Otherwise I'd just get one of those strap on booster seats - ours has been in pretty much permanent use for one child or another for years
