Why are Vinted undervaluing?

I’ve just uploaded a jacket, great condition. Vinted matched the image with others the same showing the price as £7. I put mine on at this price. It sold immediately. I then clicked on the ‘similar’ tab and it showed the same jacket at £40!! Several of them! When I searched for the £7 images I was shown earlier there was nothing.
What is this about?

Because the ones it shows you when deciding the price are ones that have already sold at that price. That’s why you can’t see them. The ones at £40 won’t sell for that.

PersephoneParlormaid · 28/09/2025 18:58

Honestly, I’d rather drop my stuff off at a charity shop than sell it for so little.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 28/09/2025 18:59

I never pay any attention to their suggested prices, they’re always ridiculously low for decent stuff.

Hellenbach · 28/09/2025 19:00

I cancelled the sale, I did teller the buyer why. I put it back on for £30 and it sold instantly.

No idea, if it helps you probably made someone’s day. I bought 3 sets of matching boden dresses for my 10 yo twins for a tenner. They don’t always dress the same but sometimes they do the twin thing. I’m chuffed but the pricing is really random as I’ve seen one on at £12.

I sell kids clothes cheap myself as I’d like stuff to be reused and local charity doesn’t take them.

StressedandAngry1 · 28/09/2025 19:02

I guess they want you to sell immediately so they can profit - their business model is based on volume rather than maximising profits for each individual item.

Their suggested prices are really low. I always price higher and always sell my stuff. I've made thousands on there. I search for items similar to what I'm selling to find the going rate and price mine a little but not a lot ower .

Crowfly · 28/09/2025 19:02

I always put the price, a bit higher than I will accept as offers are always quite low!

If you did that to me, you would get one star and on my block list! My bank takes about 5 days for the refund!

I agree with PP. As the buyer, I'd be giving you a 1 ⭐️ review, detailing why and reporting you if possible. Plus blocking.

Underselling my items has happened to me in the past but I didn't back out of honouring the sale because it was my mistake. Just teaches you to do your research properly next time.

StrongLikeMamma · 28/09/2025 19:54

I always ignore their suggestions

roses2 · 28/09/2025 20:07

I look at eBay sold prices when deciding how much to list on both eBay and Vinted. It’s a shame Vinted don’t have a search option for sold prices, their website is terrible to navigate.

I uploaded an Armani Exchange item last week and their system suggested £3! Although I listed them £10
but it hasn’t sold yet and no watchers either.

Hellenbach · 28/09/2025 20:18

Okay, so now I realise I should search first to price it.
BTW I did message the original buyer to offer it at a better price and explained why. I’m not a ruthless money maker 🤣

That's just taking the piss though. They're probably astonished at your cheek.

Are you very new to Vinted, OP? A 1 star review won't matter so much if you have 600 5 star reviews. But if you're just getting started, seeing a 1 star review from someone who says you cancelled their sale because you suffered seller's remorse and wanted more for the item will put a lot of potential buyers off.

Bournetilly · 28/09/2025 21:12

I think it would have been better not to message the buyer and offer it a higher price than they originally paid, I’d be annoyed. They have to wait for a refund now too.

A ‘better’ price for who? Hardly a better offer for the poor buyer who did nothing wrong but who you decided to ditch as soon as you realised you could get more money.

Silverbirchleaf · 28/09/2025 21:17

I ignore the recommended prices, and put it on what I want to sell it for, plus a couple if pounds extra to allow for reductions.

I am amazed, though, what some people ask. Why would I pay ten percent less, when I can get it half price from the original retailer!

That’s really unfair on the buyer. It was your fault you didn’t research the value/selling price before you listed it.

I’d have complained to Vinted.

This is really shit practice though. I don’t think it’s funny.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 28/09/2025 21:20

Cancelling the sale and re-listing is rude.

I didn't think about the buyer having to wait for the refund.

I'd definitely gird my loins for a 1 ⭐️ rating and a potential report to Vinted, OP.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 28/09/2025 21:42

I’d have cancelled the sale too OP. I sold a jelly cat on there for way too low once. It went instantly so I just cancelled it and re-listed because if I hadn’t the buyer would probably have flogged it for a huge profit anyway….

I ignore Vinted suggestions and look at eBay sold prices if in doubt…

You get automatic one star for cancelling. Buyer can’t leave a review on a canceled item

She has not done anything against the Vinted rules, cancelling to list higher is up to the seller.

she will indeed get a one star review automatically however the buyer can’t leave a review.

unless op cancelled saying buyer agreed, Vinted won’t do anything as she hasn’t broken any rules. In fact the person false reporting could get in trouble

Crowfly · 28/09/2025 21:59

I forgot you can’t leave feedback, but they will get away with it. Especially as it seems she is new to Vinted. First cancel is no feedback isn’t it.
I think people should read the rules etc and check what the item is worth before posting for sale. As she has messed that buyer about.
Make sure you post in a box as well not a parcel bag, rules etc

Don’t think she said if it was her first sale. Many people including myself aren’t that bothered about holding a full 5 star feedback. Ive made hundreds of sales and if it doesn’t go under 4 star that’s fine
