I have about £1,000 to spend. I would rather spend £20 but have been told they're a little more than that these days.

Love the thought of a mac!

So what do you suggest?

(I miss hub... he'd be in like a shot giving me specs etc... not that I know anything about specs sigh..)

Yes yes yes. A Mac!
I have a MacBook Pro which is brilliant but have used Macs for years so if I can help I will

What will you use it for? Work/surfing etc?

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:16

both! And already I think I love you.

Aren't macs pretty? Sigh......

parachutes · 01/06/2008 20:21

why thank you MarsLady
Not too strong now, we've only just met.

have just seen lulumama's message for you so I shall bow out but you could also have a look here as any of the macbooks would be good for general use.
hth

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:22

no no no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't bow out!

You may know more than him (but don't say it out loud)

OP posts:
parachutes · 01/06/2008 20:23

ok, shall whisper it.

Any of the macbooks on that link I sent should be more than enough for the office suite (word, excel etc). Does the £1000 need to cover software purchase also?

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:27

I covet the MacAir as well and if I buy it under the student prices it's £1,129 (I think).

Um preferably it should cover the software. What kind of prices are we talking to get Word (using the student license)?

Nbg · 01/06/2008 20:30

Isnt there something the Mac Air doesnt have though because of it slimness?

We have a Sony Vaio.

Love it.

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:32

Nbg... I'm a superficial girlie. I bought an ipod nano because I thought it was beautiful!

Ta

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:35

tissy · 01/06/2008 20:36

McBook doesn't have a cd drive!

If you want to play/ download, you need to buy an extra drive

I have the 13" MacBook, and it's superb.

You could get one with plenty of memory, spend £50 on Parallels and run Windows as well- then you could install MS Office from your current discs (assuming you have it on your pc)

Nbg · 01/06/2008 20:36

Oh I'm with you there Mars

I think the first thing I said when I saw the Mac Air on tv was I want one and when dh asked why, I said because it was pretty

I want one of these though

tissy · 01/06/2008 20:36

Meant MacBook Air doesn't have a cd drive

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:38

ooh it would have to have a CD drive. I'll need that for my next French course. Oo and could it play DVDs so that when the children are watching dancing fecking dogs I can watch someone delicious like Clive or Jamie!

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:38

What?????????????????

OP posts:
parachutes · 01/06/2008 20:40

NBG-the MacBook Air doesn't have a dvd or network connections. It only has wireless connection for internet connections.
But they are gorgeous and I still want one.

MarsLady-have a look here for a list of educational discounts form Microsoft.
Also this company might be useful as they seem to be a reseller of Microsoft products for the education sector.

lulumama · 01/06/2008 20:42

lulupapa says it is fine for excel and windows.. definitley fab for pics. and they look sexy! i use my macmini and macbook for all those things. and tehy never, ever crash like PCs

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:42

Now when you say reseller do you mean second hand?

EyeballsintheSky · 01/06/2008 20:46

MacBook here too. I love it. Get one, it's fab! And you'd have change for chocolate and alcohol!

parachutes · 01/06/2008 20:50

Reseller as in they are authorised to sell Microsoft products.
I had a quick look and, I think, you'd get change after a MacBook Pro and Word and Excel.

If we sell your children and my ds we could timeshare a macbook air...what d'ya think?

MarsLady · 01/06/2008 20:59

In a heartbeat Parachutes. In a heartbeat!

It is so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

Right off to watch LOST study!
