And it's driving me buts as DD3 is due in 6 weeks time!

Here's the saga:

  • will have 4yo DD1, 2 1/2 yo DD and newborn DD3
  • DD2 will walk but is liable to run off so needs wrist strap at least, also if I am on my own would be very hard pushing single buggy with 2 toddlers walking
  • was going to get P&T with idea I could use it for 6 months then sell it and get a single and buggy board when DD2 is about 3
  • then thought P&T was waste of money so thought about getting a Cosatto Duet Lite and another single and keeping both in boot then DD2 could have a double if need be, then sell double and just have single
  • not that keen on the baby being underneath on the P&T plus DD2 is quite big would her jumping around squash the baby and would she be able to fit under hood
  • also we are in Scotland it will be winter soon enough so it will be cold and wet DD2 would be better undercover
  • what else? we don't do that much walking most of the time we drive then get out the car and walk so a boot buggy would be best. Not that keen on side by sides

So wise mumsnetters what do you reckon?

I meant driving me nuts (pregnancy brain)

kitty you're a pram expert I was going to look to your for advice

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 11:11

I just can't bloody decide what to get dizzy

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 11:12

we tried out a P&T and dd2 was too tall for the sitting on top part so thats off for us

am currently trying to get a used jane powertwin on ebay as thats what I have as a single and I LOVED it - I have the car seat already so don't need one but they are going for quite reasonable prices, you can get a good condition old style one and they keep their value to be resold

one of the girls on my ante natal thread is raving on about her mountain buddy double but we can't stretch that far - it also only takes a carry cot and not a car seat attachment if thats a consideration for you

hth

cosima · 28/05/2008 11:14

double mountain buggy. they are a dream to push, roomy, good re-sale, i have the single love it. On double you can have a carry cot and a normal seat at same time, you could get one second hand i'm sure, also you could let 4 yo in it and have nb in a sling sometimes.

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 11:15

mountain buggy double

powertwin newer version for £299 on ebay

older version

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 11:18

mountain buggy is a side by side but only 74cm wide and according to photos folds flat and baby would have a completely lie flat carrycot for first wee while (would also stop dd2 from getting to baby - mean mine here as she is a thug!!!)

powertwin can have the car seat ontop of the rear seat and baby faces you - not sure how flat the seat lies though and if your dd3 is anything like mine she won't be in the car seat for long

they DO push like a dream though and are very hard wearing, we've had our powertrack single for 5yrs now and are pretty hard on it in terms of where we go walking

misdee · 28/05/2008 11:21

i would actually say the p+t. dd3 was a feb baby, and was lovely and snug undernath. dd2 was a very large 2.5 year old, she fitted in the doubles seat up top fine, and never squashed the baby at all (she did wee on her once when potty training which was a PITA). its actually very easy to push and the bit underneath for the baby is quite large and roomy, plus the position of the baby and the large open back means you can see them easily.

get a second hand one off ebay to save ££ and then sell it on again once you have moved to a single.

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 11:24

hi misdee

am devestated we can't have a P&T - had my eye on a vibe

dd2 is just too tall for when the second seat is up the top and her head was poking up through the hood

misdee · 28/05/2008 11:29

thought the vibe has an adustable hood?

we just had the bog standard e3 explorer.

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 11:30

ooohhh does it? we tried her in a sport, they didn't have a vibe in stock and the lady in the shop said not to even bother thinking about it

may have to hunt down a vibe and have another shot!!

not sure dh would be impressed though as wouldn't be able to get one second hand

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 11:56

What age is your DD2 again dizzy? I think DD2 is about 90 odd cms tall, not exceptionally tall though. She's a complete thug as well.

misdee - how did I know you would be here no I bow down to your serious pram knowledge, I think theres a shop in town sells the P&T will have to go and put DD2 in it and see if she fits.

I liked the idea of once the baby is over 6 months she could go in the front and I could have an additional rear seat for DD2 is she (or me) needed it.

Mountain buggy seems really expensive just for a few months use.

I have had a M&P Twin Aria in the past (useless) and a Graco tandem (better but not great).

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 11:59

she was 2 on friday but she is TALL! will have to measure her if I can get her to stand still for a second - she was 59cm when she was born and doesn't seem to have stopped since

I liked the idea of the P&T so you could have the option of double or single with only one buggy - took a fleeting notion for the Icandy Pear for the same reason too but its not really getting a great write up

kitty we tried the P&T sport at the Glasgow Pram Centre but I think there is a big pram centre in Stirling and mothercare and toys r us do them too

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 12:07

I remember trying out the P&T e3 in the Glasgow Pram Centre when pregnant with DD2, DP didn't like it and talked me out of it hence rubbish Aria, why did I ever listen to him?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 12:10

my argument is always - who is going to be using it the most, eeerrmmmm, me therefore my decision!

to be fair, we've used the powertwin for both as there was a big enough gap between dd1 and dd2 not to need a double - wasn't as enthusiastic as you

I have a bruin presto as a throw in the back of the car (it never comes out really) and the jane stays in the porch for going into the forest

also had a britax vigour 4 but wasn't overly impressed with it so it'll be getting sold

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 12:16

He has said this time "SK get what you want but make sure you are 110% happy with it as I don't want to hear you moaning about it"

Have measured DD2 and she is 90cms exactly.

Have Techno XT for throw in boot but the brakes are really rusty now so have to get a new single at some point.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 12:22

will measure dd2 later on, have to go now and collect them actually having done NOTHING productive all morning

annwoo · 28/05/2008 12:29

Just to let you know dizzydixies - the vibe does have an adjustable hood - can slide up and down the frame. So can adjust for tall child.

Good luck in your choice

misdee · 28/05/2008 12:56

at 90cm she should fit.

dd2 was well over that (she was asked if she was starting reception at 2.5yrs old)

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 13:09

misdee I always think DD2 is tall as DD1 is 98cms at almost 4 but I suppose she isn't really.

Was looking at a Vibe but at £500 without cocoon/raincover or cosytoes I think DP would disown me.

OP posts:
misdee · 28/05/2008 13:22

she is My Giant.

she is still very tall now. she fitted in the main seat of an e3 last october on holiday.

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 13:25

or she will be your 6ft supermodel in the future?

no chance of DP or I producing any giants we are both stunted

I think I am waning back to a P&T again (DP did say over his dead body I get the pink camo one, think he is on pink overload as it is)

OP posts:
MrsPuddleduck · 28/05/2008 13:25

Get a Phil and Ted.

My DS1 who is a big lad could sit in it easily at 4.5 without looking ridiculous.

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 14:50

anwoo thank you - although am not sure dh will be so appreciative

kitty we're just back from swimming and she's asleep so there is NO way am waking her up by measuring her - I haven't forgotten though

even so that was for a 'sport' version not a vibe, but I know what you mean about the price, am thinking of ebaying some stuff to see what I can raise to put towards a pram

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 15:07

dizzy - I don't think I have enough stuff in the house to ebay that would raise £600

So DD2 just didn't fit under the hood at all?
