Briefly tried a pair on today .They seem really stiff what is it that makes them so allegedly comfy ? Do they need wearing in ? And you buy so as there is room at toe and heel .

Birkenstocks are ugly.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 14/05/2008 18:04

They do need wearing in.

I found mine q uncomfortable at first but now I love them. Never any blisters now, even on the hottest, stickiest day. I have the Madrid style.

I do not think they are lovely, and my silver pair seem to go with loads of my summer wardrobe.

TheBlonde · 14/05/2008 18:12

never needed to wear mine in at all
maybe your foot is not suited to them?

TheBlonde · 14/05/2008 18:12

oops meant to say feet not foot

bundle · 14/05/2008 18:14

most of my friends - and me - had to wear them in (even with my 2nd pair)

dizzydixies · 14/05/2008 18:14

I love my birkie madrids too, my shocking pinks ones were finally thrown out I now have black ones

PuppyDogTails · 14/05/2008 18:14

I had to pad mine in a little but I am flat footed and the arch is quite high. They are super comfy now though, had the same pair for 5 years and I wear them all summer.

HensMum · 14/05/2008 18:16

I have to break mine in every summer but after a couple of wears, they are the most comfortable shoes ever. My feet are very wide and they fit great. And last forever. Well worth paying a bit more for.

naughtynoonoo · 14/05/2008 18:21

they were a welcome relief today after walking around all day in my wedges, ahhh the comfort

johnworf · 14/05/2008 18:24

Mine hurt my shins when I first got them and where the strap goes over the top of your foot.

I've had them a few months now though and they're fab.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/05/2008 18:34

They need to be worn in. The footbed is designed to mould to your foot. They can be stiff and a bit uncomfortable at first, but I have never had a blister from them - and I've got 9 pairs!

jingleyjen · 14/05/2008 18:36

do they come in different widths?
the ones I have tried on are just so wide my feet slip round even though they are the right length

Beetroot · 14/05/2008 18:36

they are so last year anyway

go for strappy

these

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/05/2008 18:37

You can get narrow birki's, but I've only ever seen them on the internet, never in shops.

dizzydixies · 14/05/2008 18:40

beetroot they're horrib;e and flat as a pancake too

Beetroot · 14/05/2008 18:41

they are the new thing this summer

birkies are flat too

dizzydixies · 14/05/2008 18:44

sagacious · 14/05/2008 18:45

naughtynoonoo · 14/05/2008 18:45

Beetroot · 14/05/2008 18:47

Beetroot · 14/05/2008 18:47

stitch · 14/05/2008 18:48

you buy birkenstocks for the footbed. not the fashion.
although you can buy them in almost any colour imaginable, and at twenty pounds a pair, well, i've got three, and want another one.
