I hate dysons

ssd · 11/05/2008 08:06

I'm going to have to try to sell it and get a decent hoover that actually picks up crumbs!

Have you got it on the right setting? There is a dial thing on the bottom right of mine (as I am standing behind it), to select between hard floors and carpets. If it's on the wrong one, it doesn't work so well. I would check you don't have a fault before selling it, as it sounds strange that it isn't picking up crumbs.

lucykate · 11/05/2008 09:06

i have a dc04 and to be honest, it has been a great hoover, and it has taken a real battering over the 6 years we used it. it has just started to overheat, plus the hose has split so it due for a replacement. i didn't buy it, it was given to me by my mum, but i still don't think i'll go for another dyson. even though its been a good hoover, i just don't like uprights, and i hate the hose at the back on upright dysons, much prefer cylinder hoovers, and the reviews i've read for cylinder dysons are not that good.

MuffinMclay · 11/05/2008 09:17

I agree with Laura. If it is on the right setting it should pick up all crumbs very efficiently. If it is very new, I'd take it back for a refund/exchange as there must be a fault. Might be worth contacting Dyson customer services if you've had it too long to be able to take it back; I've found them really helpful in the past.

I've had mine for 4 years and it is fab - picks up all crumbs and dog hair from carpets and hard floors.

MayPolerBear · 11/05/2008 09:23

I agree
I also think if bagless cleaners had been invented after the stupid bloody things people would be saying "wow - this is so much better - just pull the bag out, slip a new one in" no dismantling and banging against things to get the stupid fluff to fall out.
I run mine over a crumb 6 or 7 times then give up and pick the damn thing up.

Sorry have been meaning to start a thread exactly like this for a while!

ssd · 11/05/2008 18:04

hi Laura, can you tell me what the dial looks like, i can't find it?

Iota · 11/05/2008 18:07

my dyson is savagely strong - almost sucks the carpet up as well. No piece of lego is safe

I have to stand on the edges of my doormat when I vac it or the dyson sucks it into the air

have you plugged it in ssd?

cocolepew · 11/05/2008 18:11

Can't be any worse than my Vax. It's shite.

Saturn74 · 11/05/2008 18:11

Our Dyson has an enviable suck.
Had to tie the children to chairs when they were younger, for fear they'd be vaccuumed up.

Ecmo · 11/05/2008 18:12

get a miele they're fab

MayPolerBear · 11/05/2008 18:13

we are in a minority

ssd · 12/05/2008 07:47

Hated my Dyson. Got a "Sebo" now - amazing!

ssd · 12/05/2008 08:08

why have some of them got a better suck than mine, are you all talking about the DC07?

mumoftwo37 · 12/05/2008 08:42

I've got a cylinder dyson with a turbo brush - it sucks up everything and the suction is fantastic. If I were you I would take it back there must be something wrong with it. I love my Dyson.

Bridie3 · 12/05/2008 08:47

I've got a cylinder dyson, too. And it's fine. It's about ten years old now and still going strong.

belgo · 12/05/2008 08:54

I've also got a dyson, about ten years old, that still sucks very well. Never any problems with it.

I have a new miele as well, which sucks very well, but for some reason it stinks, even when it has a new bag in it.

fym · 12/05/2008 08:54

My dyson is fantastic - it has DS in tears so many small toys disappear into it .

If it's not sucking the rug/lino/mat etc off the floor then it's not working....

Chocolateteapot · 12/05/2008 08:59

My Dyson was rubbish from the moment I got it. It has gone now and there is a Miele under the stairs which actually does what it is supposed to.

fym · 12/05/2008 09:02

there is a diagnostic section to the dyson website. You pick your model and go to 'get expert help' and 'machine not sucking/picking up properly' then it tells you what to try....
