out & about nipper double?

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 15:24

does anyone have one of these - lady in the shop was trying to tell me its the best double for my pending nb and tall dd2 who will be 2yrs when baby born

then again, she does stock them in the shop

she's given me a tonne of reasons not to buy a P&T/firstwheels/mountain buggy/icandy pear/jane twin etc and recommends only the out and about nipper

aarrgghhhhhh am about demented with all this

hmmm ould b she says that as it is the only trying to sell u that 1 as it is either the only double or most expensive double she has.

I would go somewhere that has lots of diferent ones u can try out and see which suits u best.

Also have u thought that possibly u may not even ned a double at all? Baby could go in a sling for 1st few months and then in your existing single witha bugy board for DD? It might be worth considering buying a cheap 2nd hand double if you will not need it for very long

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:01

fiodyl thank you, I've been looking at them all on ebay but wanted to make a decision in person before trying to buy one which is why I went looking

I have to admit as much as the thought of sling etc appeals to me I am apparently on track for a 12lber so would prefer the option of the double buggy

am not desperate to make a decision right now, just trying to weigh them all up so I can keep an eye out for the best bargin on the one I end up choosing lol

DS will be 15 months Dizzy and I was thinking of the double nipper but haven't got round to trying any others or even looking yet. We need a bigger car so can't really get the buggy until we get that due to space in back etc. I think the double nipper is quite large folded down.

Don't think I fancy baby in sling in August - a bit hot all round!

Sidge · 25/04/2008 16:06

I love my Nipper Double 360.

Far better than P&T/Firstwheels etc. I actually had a tandem when DD3 was born but after 6 mths sold it on Ebay and bought the Nipper.

It's the lightest double I tried (and believe me I tried most of them!) - so easy to use and I have a 19 mth old and a 4 year old in mine! It's steers and pushes like a dream (can do it one handed) and is easy to fold and open. It is quite bulky as it folds flat, but most doubles I looked at were bulky. It's deceptively narrow, and not as wide as it looks - I can get it in and out of my front door.

I would definitely recommend it.

(They also have good resale value apparently).

Celery · 25/04/2008 16:09

I would recommend it too. It's a fantastic double buggy. I've had the P&T too, and I've tried others, and this is the only one I would recommend. Really easy to push, not too wide, folds easily and compactly.

smugmumofboys · 25/04/2008 16:09

I totally loved mine (and if you lived nearer I could do you a deal onit as it's in the garage )

It's super light and easy to manoeuvre (sp?). I had it from DS2 as a newborn and DS1 was 2.

It's been around cities, over fields and up mountains.

It's fab, I tell yer!!

smugmumofboys · 25/04/2008 16:10

I also have the single.

I heart that too.

Bky · 25/04/2008 16:12

I have the Nipper 360 for my 19 month old and 6 week old. I have also tried (and hated) The jane Powertwin, and the Phil and Teds.

I really like it has one handle bar because when my toddler is walking I can push it with one hand and hold her hand. Not really had any problems getting through doorways but you do sometimes have to line yourself up right to get through.

If you think you will need a double then I would def recommend this one.

Sorry about hideous typing newborn sleeping on my very awkwardly.

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:12

brilliant, am watching one on ebay to see what a second hand one goes for

can I ask those who put a newborn in it, i take it that it really DOES lie flat enough for them?

OP posts:
fiodyl · 25/04/2008 16:13

I never really got on with the sling either, but some people love em and Ive seen babies of about 9 months still being carried in them!!!

I had to get a double because DD was only 11 months old when DS was born. I still use it now (DD 2.1 DS 1.2)if we are going on a long journey or doing loads of shopping and Im on my own. Otherwise we use the singles (have 2 if DP or my mum are coming and can take 1 each) and I make DD walk short distances!

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:15

dd2 is a bit too unpredictable and as I'll be doing the school walk etc with them 2wks after dc3 is born I want to be able to put her in the buggy with baby whilst we walk dd1 to school

I might try a sling but with the first two I wasn't really in a postition to use one and want to be prepared!

OP posts:
smugmumofboys · 25/04/2008 16:16

Yes it does go flat iirc. I certainly used it from birth with DS2.

You can detach and reattach the wheels easily for loading into a car. It fits into the back of our Skoda Fabia, albeit with the shelf thing removed.

Egg · 25/04/2008 16:19

Do testdrive one if you can. I have heard that everyone who has one loves them, but I went to look at them when expecting my twins and had DS1 with me who was 20ish months and he hated it as the seat does not go upright enough and he was slumped back in it. If you take DD2 and try her in it then if she likes it you are sorted!

I have Powertwin which is great, I love being able to get through any door, esp my own front door. Only downside I have found so far is when DS1 (who is now 26 months) is in front seat and it is raining the hood is a bit low for him.

Obviously as I have twins I do have to have one in a sling if we are all going out together as DS1 still needs to have a seat on the buggy, and my DTs were only little when born and I still find it a faff having to use a sling AND push a buggy. I only ever carry DD who is prob still only 10ish lbs and that's enough. DS2 never gets carried as he is a fatty, so if you are in line for a 12lb-er you def want the option of a seat for him/her.

Bky · 25/04/2008 16:19

Yes it goes completely flat and you can also get a newborn harness / snug type of thing, which has a head support and means you can strap them in, is lovely.

Egg · 25/04/2008 16:20

Oh and if your DD2 is anything like my DS1, she will walk less and be even more of a liability on school run once there is a new baby being pushed in a buggy. Mine used to walk all the way to nursery, now he refuses most days......

Bky · 25/04/2008 16:22

newborn support

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:26

Egg - I wanted to look at the powertwin because it was a powertrack 360 I've used for both dd1 and dd2

I was hoping to pick one up on ebay and use the rebel car seat I already own but am not sure which one is compatible as they all seem to have new fittings for newer car seatc

my powertrack is nearly 5yrs old although we used the matrix for dd1, we bought a rebel car seat for dd2 2 yrs ago and am sure it was the older one to fit onto the powertrack as the new one had come out by the time dd2 arrived

does that make any sense?!?

OP posts:
Egg · 25/04/2008 16:31

I think the older car seats will still fit on, although you may need the adaptors???? I am not sure.... I bought my powertwin and two rebel car seats from ebay brand new at quite a saving from even cheapest places like kiddicare. Can you take your car seat to a shop that sells powertwins to see if it fits on?

It is a great pushchair! I had the slalom with DS1 and loved it so hoped I would not be disappointed.

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:45

the lady in the shop said it wouldn't but then she WOULD want me to buy a new one with all new gear

have phoned and asked aunt to get my car seat out the loft so I can make sure which one it is before I start asking people lol

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:48

she also told me I wouldn't get as much use from the powertwin as I would from the new twin two?

can I ask what age your kids are that still fit in it, dd2 will be 2 in a couple of weeks but is quite tall - have just sent dh off to try to measure her lol

OP posts:
TheMaskedPoster · 25/04/2008 16:51

sorry - I know this prob won't help as we only have the single Out and About nipper 360, BUT it is great and extremely usuable. We have the newborn support and have used it from day one (DD2 is now a month old and is out and about -heeheehee- in it all the time).

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 16:53

lol maskedposter thank you!

dd2 measuring at about 90cm, well as close as she'll let us get to her during her afternoon strop

OP posts:
Egg · 25/04/2008 17:31

DS1 is 26 months. He is about the same height as your DD I think (maybe), not measured him in a while. He is quite chunky though. He fits in the seat no problem, it's just the hoods that seem low, but he loves to pull it right down over his head and it means he actually keeps almost dry (he refuses to use a rain cover).

From what I recall when I was looking, the new "pro" version of the powertrack and rebel etc means the seat just clicks in, whereas the old version needed adaptors. Did you use an adaptor for your rebel car seat on your powertrack?

I met a lady at the swings the other day with the twin 2 and I asked her how she found it. She said it was very heavy. I don't find mine heavy as such, it is v easy to steer, but with DS1 in the front and a baby in a rebel seat on the back AND a baby in a sling it uses a bit of strength to turn sharp corners!!!

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 18:29

good grief am not suprised lol

my aunt has the car seat down for me and its a rebel NOT a rebel pro, its still like new as only used it for dd2 not dd1

I'd be REALLY keen to get the right one just to be able to reuse the car seat and not muck about having to buy a new one

have seen this one and its says rebel car seat, not rebel pro - I might email and ask them

here

is that the one you have?

it also helps me not having to read all the instructions for a new one lol am sooooo lazy in that respect

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 18:31

Bky that newborn support looks lovely, am definately going to go and have a look at them as you can get them for not a bad price on ebay

have given up trying to find the 'perfect' double as I just don't believe that there is one!
