Knee high boots

Help, I'm looking for a pair of black leather knee high boots that will do up over my calves. I'm not a great big porker and I've never thought that I had particularly chubby calves, but can I fit into any boots? No, I don't think so.
Have any other average sized mumsnetters out there found a pair that fit their legs recently? Please tell me where.

Having failed to find a pair of knee high boots that fitted me everywhere else (except Evans) I've at last found a pair at Dorothy Perkins.

I have the same problem, calves not specially big, but seemingly too big for most boots. I bought some stretchy fabric ones from Next this season - they're slinky and stretched to fit easily - give them a go!

posyhairdresser · 01/09/2004 12:42

Anyone having more luck this year?
M&S and Next now have wider fitting boot sizes as an option - are they finally getting the message?

Portree · 01/09/2004 13:45

Me too. I've only once been able to buy boots that fit my calves and they were elasticed pull-on ones from M & S. Last year when I was heavily pg dh pointed out a response to the calves/boots query in a newspaper. A company called Duo of Bath who do calf-fitting boots. I haven't tried them and am awaiting their catalogue. I'm hoping for a pair from Santa!

so true aloha. i used to work in a v v v expensive boutique/shoe shop once, virtually all of their stuff manufactured in italy & spain (some US and France) and we had great problem selling the fabulous looking knee high leather boots as most women couldn't do the zip up. the strechy ones sold like hot cakes but they didn't look as nice obviously. it was quite embarrassing actually, in the end i stopped wearing mine because these women kept making strange comments and it was v. annoying. I don't understand why they don't manufacture them for the right market, every nation has different measurements so they should take it into account.

This is such a common problem, the fashion people really ought to review the size of womens legs, i'm pretty sure they don't all resemble matchsticks. I have recently discovered New Look's footwear. The quality is'nt fantastic but they look great and do there job. I also have the same problem with bracelets and necklaces. I'm a size 16 and 5ft 8ins which is I think is average for a mum with 2 kids. I should'nt have to worry about wether this stuff will fit or not.

Piffleoffagus · 01/09/2004 20:26

I have the opposite problem - too skinny in the calf
Office do a great selection as do Shelleys in massive range of widths but you need to do every shoe shop in London first...
In the end I though ahhh f* it and bought Prada
Nearly caused my relationship to fall apart but the boots and the DH are still here :)

Elvis · 01/09/2004 21:02

I have very scrawny calves - the only part of me that is! I treated myself to a pair of boots from Duo of Bath as previously mentioned. 90 quid, but wore them all last winter and will be coming out of the wardrobe again soon. They do them for all calf sizes.

Hanna · 01/09/2004 21:26

The nearest city that I get chance to go to is Coventry and they do not have a good range of shoe shops. What I need is nice trip to London all on my own going in every shoe shop with a nice big purse......... Dream on Hanna!

Chuffed · 02/09/2004 20:20

Opposite problem here, I think it depends on your shoe size a bit too. All the boots fit in the calf but a gapey at the top and look a bit like gumboots. Might have to look at the custom shop too.

ponygirl · 02/09/2004 20:56

Am so relieved to see this thread! I currently have a pair of £150 boots from Boden sitting next to me waiting to be returned because they don't fit over my calves. The description promised 'multi-elasticated vents' but still no - pah, thanks for nothing, Johnnie! I was gutted when I tried them, and was starting to think I was hugely abnormal! Will try some of the suggestions here. Thanks, guys.

OldieMum · 02/09/2004 21:30

A related topic - we are all getting bigger. here

Twink · 02/09/2004 22:12

have just looked at Duo, but they won't be able to help me.

Anyone any ideas for boots for people with wide feet ?

Last year I tried the Next wide fitting range but I could have stored my sandwiches inside the legs - wide feet don't always = wide legs

motherinferior · 07/09/2004 13:25

Oh my god! Could I actually wear knee boots now? Don't believe it. I thought I was ludicrously abnormal too...

earlygirl · 07/09/2004 13:27

twink next have lots of nice ones in wide fit!

earlygirl · 07/09/2004 13:27

sorrry twink youve been there done that!

ponygirl · 09/09/2004 10:16

My boots came from Duo yesterday - and they FIT!!! I grinned for an hour and danced around the kitchen. In said boots. Am now impatient for chilly weather so I can wear them!

motherinferior · 09/09/2004 10:24

I also spotted some rather nice suede boho-ish boots in - wait for it - CLARKS, with an elastic panel in the side - not a gusset, a panel, £60ish. Would have snapped them up had they been in my size but they start in a four

Twinkie · 09/09/2004 10:36

Seen some lovely brown leather calf length ones in Clarks too - £80 - am deffo going to buy them I think!!

soapbox · 09/09/2004 10:59

Ponygirl - which style did you buy? I've been swithering about heel size. The one's I really like have quite a high heel and as I want to wear them to work don't fancy the idea of sore feet after the route march to and from the station each day!!

If the lower heeled ones are nice I would be sorely tempted!!

hoxtonchick · 09/09/2004 11:35

I got some beautiful ones from Camper a couple of weeks ago, but they weren't cheap. Before ds I always used to have problems with skinny calves but sadly that isn't an issue now.

ponygirl · 09/09/2004 12:00

I bought these soapbox, as I'm crap with higher heels. They've got some very nice ones with 5 inch heels though that, I thought about, then told myself to stop being ridiculous! These are very comfortable too. (Still grinning!)

Ah, well, Beetroot, that's the problem. Not many about. That fit anyway!

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2004 15:37

MI you must be tiny!!
I have to say, I like Clarks. Some of there stuff recently has been really nice and original and I always find them really comfortable.
