Does everyone use Amazon Prime?

Hi All, We have a small business selling on Amazon that I started when pregnant, 10 years ago. It has become a monster that Amazon feeds on and hands us the pennies at the end :(
If anyone has time, could you answer my 3 questions below as we are trying to gauge if its worth pulling out?

1, Is Amazon the first place you look for something you specifically want?

2, Will you then google the item to check price on other sites?

3, Will you hit the filter button to only buy with Prime or would you buy from a smaller supplier on Amazon if cheaper?

I have Prime myself so am fully aware how bloody convenient it is but answers would be very much appreciated

Mods - If this post is a problem, please let me know and I will remove :)

I have Prime and use it a lot. I have found it very quick and convenient and when I have had any issues I found them very quickly resolved. I have, on occasion, used other websites and actually they've been pretty fair on returns but some of their stuff i have been sent was not really as described. For example,I bought from Lumin London what I thought was a knitted jumper but turned out to be a top with stencil etched on! And there was so much hassle getting any sort of recompense. But with Amazon I have found that they don't argue with me but rather appreciate i am a good customer and so respect me.

Always‼️ I've been a big shopper on Amazon for over 20 years and am ashamed to admit my annual spend with them tops 12k per year most years.

I buy almost everything from Amazon and there is a good reason why ... if I have a problem they ship me a replacement immediately, next day delivery - even before I've returned a faulty or disappointing item back to them. Quite often they say not to bother returning, give away or destroy etc. Their vans are at my house almost daily.

No postage costs ... ( I suspect they are secretly hidden within the sale price but I don't care, I begrudge postage charges)

If I have a return, they send Royal Mail or DPD etc to pick it up at my house, no inconvenience to me etc.

Whatever I need, they have it or a third party seller does but I won't buy from Marketplace sellers who add postage.

I can buy the oddest things, they almost always have what I want.

In my opinion as a big spender on Amazon - best way to drum up business is NO postage costs added xx

Can I just say, I am absolutely blown away by everyone taking the time to answer me, what an awesome bunch of ladies - Thank you so much!! I am going to have a good read through this evening and decide what to do. Hopefully this will be used for anyone else in a similar boat to me.
Warm Regards 🤗

Ah, to your questions.

Yes, I usually go to Amazon straight off but also I would go to other sources and use them if cheaper but also being aware that sometimes there is no free returns or their customer support is a bit vague (customer support with Amazon is excellent, I have found but I am a Prime member)

1, Is Amazon the first place you look for something you specifically want?
No. But I will choose to use Amazon over other sites if the price is the same as it's easier. The exception is if the other site has apple pay because that's just as quick. You don't have to input your details.

2, Will you then google the item to check price on other sites?
Yes.

3, Will you hit the filter button to only buy with Prime or would you buy from a smaller supplier on Amazon if cheaper?*
No I've never used the filter button even though I have prime. I would notice the additional postage charge at the end and that's when I might start looking for an alternative.

Yes.

I am rural and the bother of trailing around a whole day when it's a few clicks away is silly.

I always filter by prime as I've been stung for high postage before. I understand that the delivery costs are still incorporated but the price on the item is the price I pay.

I like that I have various vulnerable elderly family members cards linked to my Amazon account. They ring me on the landline and tell me what they want and I order whilst they are in the phone. More often than not it come the following day and the delivery driver always carries in heavy items.

No quibble easy returns too.

I have really come to value Amazon.

Sometimes I'll compare websites to Amazon. But most often I don't bother.

1, Is Amazon the first place you look for something you specifically want? pretty much. If I look elsewhere first, I'll double check Amazon before I complete the purchase.

2, Will you then google the item to check price on other sites? Sometimes but not always.

3, Will you hit the filter button to only buy with Prime or would you buy from a smaller supplier on Amazon if cheaper?
Depends. I am rarely in a rush so would buy from someone that didn't ship straight away but I look at reviews and how the advert is written to gather an idea of whether I should buy.

Forgot my main point. I work with Amazon and I have found that they are a dire company full of absolute cunts with a rare helpful soul.

liveforsummer · 21/10/2024 20:22

I only really look on Amazon if I need fast delivery so yes, then I'd only buy prime. If not urgent I'd generally Google or look at a different website if I knew what ikes to look at
