I will be back later with my words of wisdom, am feeding children!

CarGirl · 22/04/2008 18:01

Quinny Buzz & Britax vigour are NOT off road buggies

MB is wonderful, UD (from mothercare) is surprisingly good but huge when folded, Jane Slalom again good but the seat is very very wide and my dc looked lost in it.

mankymummy · 22/04/2008 18:03

dont get a phil and teds if you want to put anything in the bottom panier, it rubs on the floor and also DCs can learn to put their feet down hard on the footrest and stop the front wheel from working !

Not convinced by the britax, the hard tyres make me a bit also the smaller front wheel may make it tip sidewards on even ground?

Carrycot for the MB?

bran · 22/04/2008 18:10

I had an Urban Detour and I loved it. It's very easy to push and well-balanced so that you can push it with one hand. It is fairly heavy (but then most off-roaders are) so if you live in an extremely steep hilly area it might be a bit tiring to push. It's very sturdy, apart from putting that green goo stuff in the tyres to stop them from puncturing I didn't have to do any maintainance on it at all. I found it much less tiring to push than my little Maclaren Volo and only took the Volo when I was going to be using the car or if I knew there was limited space for storing a pushchair at my destination.

Mountain Buggy is the bees knees though, everyone I know who has one raves about it.

constancereader · 22/04/2008 18:11

I bought a MB from ebay. It is very sturdy, and will do rocky paths. Stick with it, one will come up!

CarGirl · 22/04/2008 18:12

I have a MB and it really is as easy to steer as my bugaboo - I may be selling it soon though as I don't really need it anymore.

Moomin · 22/04/2008 18:23

We have got an offroader that we don't use anymore. Its an old-style Bebecar AT Raider and looks a bit like thisin grey. Good condition though and fab off-road. Would be happy to sell it to you if you fancy?

scottishmummy · 22/04/2008 18:23

Quinny buzz dreadful pram NOT off road, had one sold it rickety, heavy. i hear MB are the business, dont know much bout others but UD is heavy. britax vigour on sale at boots com

Moomin · 22/04/2008 18:24

SCroll down the page by the way.

jo25 · 22/04/2008 18:28

urban detours are fab, have recently had one for my 5.6 DS post surgery and it was fantastic. It has done many miles and a majority of those in very muddy fields.

the only real thing i can say is they are large, so if you have a car and the boot is small yo may have to take the wheels of for it to fit, we have a picasso and it only just goes in there with one of the wheels taken off, otherwise you have to have 1/2 the back seat down.

misdee · 22/04/2008 18:29

quinny buzz is NOT an off-roader at all, cannot cope on anything more than a cracked pavement.

Mountain buggy IMO the best you can get and so so worth it. do keep an eye on free-ads/gumtree for one.
britax vigour, same as buzz

urban detour excellant bargain buy IMO, and very well made.

jane slamon, if you cant afford one of these then look up nurse dakar on ebay. its a rebranded powertrack/slamon mix and excellant value for money.

HTH

scottishmummy · 22/04/2008 18:31

lol Moomin didnt see that Givenchy pour bebe and fragrant buggy snip at that price

meglet · 22/04/2008 18:38

we have an Urban Detour, we love it. It is probably indestructible. Jolly heavy, but easy to steer so works great in town too. We are walking distance from our town centre so it has covered plenty of miles on footpaths and off road. Sandy beaches are a bit tricky though.

walking uphill with it will get your baby weight off too .

issyissyissy · 22/04/2008 18:44

I am also looking for a good off roader. I also want it to be good in town too, to save having too many pushchairs at home!! Have heard from a few people that the landrover one is the best. They dont make them anymore but you can get them on ebay.

Moomin · 22/04/2008 18:45

scottishmummy - WOT?! don't understand

misdee · 22/04/2008 18:45

i have a landrover one coming that needs a new footplate fitted then will be up for sale.

PrincessPeaHead · 22/04/2008 18:47

after 4 children and wasting a lot of money I can tell you that IMO the only sensible choice is a mountain buggy

fantastic

have had other off roaders including jane 360 etc and they are all crap and break etc. MB all the way

scottishmummy · 22/04/2008 18:48

oh lol when i scroll all te way down on the vigour boots com i see givenchy perfume is that what you meant

misdee · 22/04/2008 18:55

pph, i wont be parted from my mb. i am keeping it for bump.

marmadukescarlet · 22/04/2008 18:56

I'm glad you now have lots of response!

I was going to say, as several others have, that the Quinny and Vigour are not off roaders.

You have to consider what you want it to do, where you live, where you are likely to take it etc.

My DD/DS not keen on many 'off roaders' due to reclined/hammock styled seat. Neither found the UD uncomfortable and sat forward holding on. Also to face you they need to be in car seat, long times in car seats are not recommended for newborns due to compression or airways etc.

If you are only doing grassy parks and paths the icandy apple is good (I got a full refund on this, mud and all, 3 weeks after purchase as was told it was off road and it couldn't manage my terrain) it faces both ways - which imho is very important for LOs - and is not to heavy/large when folded.

If you are going to be haring up and down the Peak District then hang out for a MB, baring in mind you may need a town buggy too. Downside imho is they only face away.

If you are going around rabbit holed fields or through the woods buy the biggest wheels you practically can fit in your car, small wheeled 3 wheelers can tip if hit uneven ground.

scottishmummy · 22/04/2008 19:12

moomin vigour and givenchy perfume link i thought scroll down meant this. so what did you mean?

Oooh, coincidence! I fixed the punctured tyres on our Urban Detour this morning as DC4 will be using it in due course. (Tomorrows challenge is to find the cot).

It is actually our second UD - the first one was a write-off after 2 DCs BUT we do work them very, very hard off-road in fairly terrible conditions!

If you are going out in mud/woods/brambly fields etc then take the basket thing underneath off.
