Vileda 'Active Wave' scourers - have you seen them anywhere?

Blu · 13/04/2008 16:52

Is there a national shortage? Tesco and Sainsbury's seem to have re-stocked with pathetic Spongtex offereings - and the Vileda Active Wave is the ONLY effective non-scratch scourer, IME!

Anyone seen them in stock anywhere else?

Only 20, Blu?

Please tell me why they are so wonderful!

(btw I have the Vileda sponge mop which is on the R in your link - it is useless. How odd)

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 17/04/2008 17:28

thought it was just me!

Now I know there is a shortage, I shall have to pay a visit to wilkos.

They are fab, aren't they

Blu · 17/04/2008 17:31

In my experience (which admittedly isn't extensive or exhaustive) non-scratch scourers are not very abrasive. Active Wave - the green sponge backed ones - are very very tough, they handle buurnt on stains, everything, act pretty much like a proper viscious scourer, but they don't leave even a tiny mark on your shiny pans or kettle or stainless steel cooker top.

I had to order 20 to make it worth while paying the £3-95 p7p

Now I'm panicking - maybe I should have ordered more. But then I will lose my moral high ground over DP who ordered 25l of washing up liquid from Ocado for no good reason. Although I was amazed to discover that he is particular about these scourers, too. I thought he just used them because they were there, iyswim.

Is it this one or this one?

Hope it's the 1st as the 2nd is now out of stock - or is that just down to the power of mumsnet?

marina · 17/04/2008 19:16

Dh says he has one word for the women on this thread - Vindicated

WendyWeber · 17/04/2008 19:17

Oh marina, pleeeeeease tell me which one it is!!!!

marina · 17/04/2008 19:25

It's the first of the two WW
Looks like Blu's zombie plan buying hasn't hit the website yet

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/04/2008 19:38

It's both WW - the first is the usual twin pack, and the second is a single one.

WendyWeber · 17/04/2008 20:20

Thank you darlings.

hm, tough choice - 79p for 2 or 79p for 1 - which should I go for?

Blu · 18/04/2008 10:43

Hold on there WW because you might get them cheaper direct from Vileda - i had this nice e mail from them:

"Further to your recent mail the Vileda Active Wave sourer should be available in Asda, Morrison's and Somerfield.

You can also purchase direct from ourselves. The minimum order is a box at a total cost of £13.80 which also includes postage and packing.Cheques should be made payable to Freudenberg Household Products LP and sent to the address below.

Kind regards.

Not sure how many in a box...

There is an Asda within range so I may swap to shopping there when our stash runs out!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/04/2008 10:57

Fab Blu - I can make it to an Asda no problem.

WendyWeber · 18/04/2008 11:01

Thanks, Blu - I will investigate!

I've just remembered that I had a similar situation, months ago, with Ariel Sensitive - Sainsburys and Tesco both stopped stocking it and as they are my two local stores I was v narked.

I actually emailed the company about it too and Wilkos was (and still is!) one of the places that went on selling it; I think Asda and Morrisons were as well.

Time we all started boycotting Tesco & Sainsburys for ignoring their customers' wishes! (They both replaced Ariel Sensitive with Biological-with-Febreze - because that makes perfect sense of course )

WendyWeber · 18/04/2008 11:09

A whole box from this place holds 16 of them - that will be the standard box as supplied by the company, don't you think? - and costs £20.91 inc VAT and p&p

If there are 16, that makes £13.80 inc p&p even cheaper than Wilkos, unless you bought about 60!

BoyBlue currently collects Transformers and fossils - but I think I shall influence him to take a keen interest in superior and hard-to-source rubber gloves, so that some good may come of all this.

If Vileda could find a way to produce a combination Pokemon card and Active Wave scourer, I could probably bring ds on board too.

Blu · 18/04/2008 11:59

Active Wave Pokemon has potential, I feel....

Optimus Scourer? Active Wave Prime?

Pikascrub? Might it evolve so it does the dishes unsupervised?

Breaking News: they were:
"discontinued by Waitrose due to poor sales in June 2007."

Is this because all these DH's on this thread are pomntificating and not actually getting out there into the aisles and BUYING the things? Or because Vileda are missing a trick with lack of super-hero branding?

We need to create a demand!

Use them or lose them!

A VERY nice reply from my enquiry to Sainsbury's:

"Thank you for your email about the availability of the Vileda active wave scourers. I can appreciate how disappointing it can be for a favourite product to be discontinued, particularly as you have demonstrated how popular it is. (I linked this thread)

I am sorry that you have experienced difficulty in locating the scourers. Although we still stock them under our reference stock number SKU 2919560 they are not available in all our stores. As you have not mentioned a specific store I have researched availability according to your post code. They are available at Streatham Common main store on Streatham High Road, but are not for example at nearby Balham.

If this is not a store you use, we can advise you about availability in any other store if you call us using our free call help line on 0800 636 262 between 8am and 7pm Monday to Saturday. My colleagues at the help will be only to happy to assist you.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me and allowing me to investigate this product for you. I do hope that you find everything to your satisfaction in our stores.

Kind regards

Serenity - surely the store mentioned is your local one?

Anyway, Sainsbury's have kept my custom over Asda, now!
