dd has the stokke trip trap, its fab, easy to clean, she will probably be using it till shes about 8yrs. also helps them to sit properly at the table.

CarGirl · 02/04/2008 19:08

How old is your dc????

I think the tripp trapp or the ikea cheapo one (can't remember the name - antilopp)

I have a wood one which is very like the ikea plastic one, I love it (have had lots of highchairs) doesn't take up much floor space, huge adjustable removable tray, dd sits nice and upright in it, looks nice, very easy to clean, completely remove harness and bung in the wash!

pattymc · 02/04/2008 19:09

tripp trapp is great, the ikea one is meant to be good too but who wants to go to ikea?!!

brimfull · 02/04/2008 19:10

by a tripp trapp,ds still uses his and he 5,is also used by adults as well

nickytwotimes · 02/04/2008 19:11

Had a look at the ones you link too and have to say I wouldn't want to pay that much. The first one is pretty much the same as my Chicco one which was £50 and is fine except tricky to fold. Trouble with the ones like this is difficulty in cleaning. Wooden ones are good and if i were to be buying again, I'd get the Ikea one or even the Argos one.

mumtoboys · 02/04/2008 19:12

I 2nd the tripp trapp. We now have 2! They are great ... DS1 2.10 still using it so no need for a booster and it teaches them to sit up nicely at the table. Plus it doesn't take up again more room than a normal chair which is great for us with a small dining room. Jojo maman do them and you can get a 10% discount through mumsnet.

lilQuidditchKel · 02/04/2008 19:12

must say my Ikea Antelope high chair has been utterly outstanding for both DS and DD - best bargain ever! And I got mine off ebay so no trip to dreaded Ikea required! Legs pop out for easy storage if you intend on having another...

one these expensive ones there are loads of nooks and cranies to trap dirt and often the covers on the foam split etc and they cost loads to replace, they are huge so you end up folding them down to save on space which wears them out more quickly/splits the foam cover!

Always wished I had a trip trap...

CarGirl · 02/04/2008 19:20

buy mine then it's on the for sale section

hifi · 02/04/2008 19:22

never bought the harness for dd, just the pads. a friend of mine did get a tray for a tripp trapp off ebay, ithink it was about £40 though. if you dont eat at a table it could be a problem though. i second what car girl says about cleaning etc, also they take up huge amounts of space.

hairycaterpillar · 02/04/2008 19:23

oh def another vote for ikea antilopp (sp?) a definite bargain. Tray easily pops off so lo can be at table or so you can chuck it in the dishwasher to get those annoying cement like bits of weetabix off! And at pennies compared to the rest a definate bargain!

CarGirl · 02/04/2008 19:25

personally 2 of my 4 children would have probably been throttled if I hadn't had a tray because they are very very messy, often spilling stuff etc, if they'd had a tripp trapp at the dining table I think my temper would have spewed out more often.

I got a harness from local clothes shop, can't remember the name of it but a set of reigns type harness, kiddi something was the name, and it cost about £5 you can get them in chemists etc... I used it on stokke tripp trapp.

we still have that high chair and plan to keep it, I would have bought the ikea one if I really wanted something that was cheap but good.

I know you want a tray, but even with a tray I have noticed food all over the place with friend's highchairs...

the stokke is good because it isn't just for eating food, it is great when they are oler and you can have them sitting at the table drawing, playing with playdough, but they are still contained.

I think it can be a trip trap like the name suggests!

aefondkiss · 02/04/2008 20:07

reins clippasafe

pinkteddy · 02/04/2008 20:09

honestly don't spend a lot - you'll be surprised at how little time a traditional high chair lasts - by the age of one they won't want to be sitting in it - they want to be up at the table with everyone else. I wish I'd known about mumsnet when dd was small I wasted so much money!

mybabysinthegarden · 02/04/2008 20:09

Yet another vote for the Ikea one. It has a fixed bar between the legs and a simple waist strap, so much quicker to get dcs in and out of than the ones that use a 5 point harness.

Heated · 02/04/2008 20:12

Avoid unvarnished wood since food sticks and sets like concrete, especially if you miss a bit.

I'd find one with a fixed bar between their legs to stop them sliding down under the tray, or if it's got a 5 point harness make sure it can be removed for washing.

I have to virtually dismantle our high chair to clean it grr. It's one that's meant to convert to a chair and table later which means it has all the more nooks and crannies to clean.

mummyloveslucy · 02/04/2008 20:15

Or daughter has a tripp trapp. It is fantastic. It is fully ajustable and will fit her untill adulthood. One day she will use it as a computer chair which will help her posture. trip trap was designed by back specialists, and It's such a good investment. I love ours and so does our daughter.

BexieID · 02/04/2008 20:19

Loving the £240 one. The £195 Argos do something similar for £20. The first one is a bugger to keep clean.

What about a Handysitt?

LilyMunster · 02/04/2008 20:22

i had tip-backable seat things that clipped onto normal chairs. cheap and do the job nicely. is a random thing to blow 200-odd quid on imo

jojosmaman · 02/04/2008 20:22

antilop, antilop, antilop from ikea! I was a bit reluctant at first, how can something so cheap be so good but I thought I would give it to granny if I wasn't happy but it is by far my best baby purchase, I love it. The tray is dead easy to clean, DS regularly has red stuff (beans, tomato soup, bolognese) but you wouldnt know it, it looks brand new. No nooks or crannies for food to hide in and can be used without the tray for lo to eat at the table. I know loads of people who have ditched the super expensive, reclining, padded high chairs for the ikea one after seeing ours in action.

However, if you want to spend at bit more, my research would say that the tripp trapp one would have been my second choice!

ps I don't work for Ikea
